WEEK 5

That's three murders now - and this last trial got more than slightly out of hand. It looks like you might be in for another tough week... or at least, maybe that's just the refusal of this place to change too much. You lose Saturday again, but maybe six-day weeks are starting to feel normal by now. Who knows? The cycle of day and night continues apace, changing so little.

Speaking of change, though, there's a new area to look through, the biggest and most complex yet. And the end of one wing of the facility, from the looks of it - though you can probably guess where more areas might start to open up.

And speaking of opening up (segues!), this week if you're out particularly late, you might sometimes see Angel out and about! So hey, maybe change is on the horizon.

Just gotta hope it's a change for the better, don't you?

['Left herself vulnerable.' Therion winces at that, then shakes his head and quietly nurses his drink.]

...Yeah. Personally? Can't imagine what being like that is like. She sounds a little too good to be true.

[A woman like Ophilia Clement, maybe, who took a burden the size of Orsterra off her sister's shoulders. Just for love of her. Just for love.]

There are plenty of people out there who seemed to be that way, for better or worse.

[ Vincent had, between Lucrecia and Aerith, known two of those. ]

I'm sure you've met someone like that yourself? [ ... ] Or maybe not. There's still a chance to go through life without crossing paths with certain types of people.

[ At least for those who lived lives as normal humans with normal lifespans. ]

I've met a handful. Some proved to be exactly that: much too good to be true. At least a couple are rotting in gaols by now.

[Rest in incarcerated pieces, Vanessa.]

[ Alas. Well, he's met enough traitorous/deceitful people as well...though usually he knew relatively quickly they were that because they were obvious about it. ]

Then life simply dealt them the hand they deserved.

[bolderfell]

[Scoff.]

No. They're only there because they got caught. Trust me, plenty get away with it all their days. Life has nothing to do with it.

[valentinus]

[ ...He'll take another sip of his drink. ]

Just another way of putting it. But, in the end, it's not wrong.

[bolderfell]

Then maybe it's more like deserving has nothing to do with it.

[He bobs his head at the ribbon again.]

Good people die. Criminals profit. Life ought either to be more discerning with its just deserts or not bother.

[valentinus]

[ ... ]

I suppose we will see what that will mean for us here, in the end.

[ Whether life will be more fairly discerning or not. If it continues not to be, he won't be surprised. And even if it will, then that will be through their own efforts. ]

[bolderfell]

Yeah. One way or another.

[Either they die one by one, week by week, or they die together like drowned rats, leaving just one survivor free to see the sky once more.]

[ Seeing that they agreed upon this, Vincent was content to leave it at that and continue to enjoy his drink in what he felt like was a comfortable silence.

At least the taste of good alcohol won't be tainted by their situation. ]
