COMMENCE EXPERIMENT

Fun fact: Did you know that the Pacific Ocean has a surface area of 62.46 million miles? That's not even accounting for depth.

You awaken to a sharp jolt, like you've just hit the drop on a roller coaster. Then it passes, and you're in a bed, suddenly very clearly awake. Is that right? Were you asleep? Your memory is a little fuzzy as you come down off the adrenaline, but it puts itself into place soon enough. This is not, as one might say, your beautiful house. If you have a beautiful wife, she sure isn't here.

The positioning of the bed inside your new room gives you a very clear indication of where you are - or at least, where the building is. Above you is a decent-sized window looking out on... well, the ocean. But not in a fun beachside resort way, to say the least. Fish swim by pretty frequently, here to keep you company - but they cannot hear your screams, and do not seem particularly bothered if you tap on the glass unless they're right by it. It's thick, man.

On the bedside table, you'll find two things: a key card with a number between 1 and 25 on it (no points for guessing which one is on whose, unfortunately), and a small handheld device, a little like a smartphone but mostly like a blackberry? Remember those? Anyway, accessing it will reveal only a scarce few functions: a list of profiles, a map of the building, and a very ominous set of rules. You might try to ignore that last one! Unfortunately, you'll find them in a frame by your door. And in a frame somewhere in every room of the place, if you go out exploring at all. The tablet also has a message for you when you open it:

Greetings. Please take an hour to become accustomed to the facilities, then proceed to the meeting room north of your dormitories. Attendance is mandatory. - The Professor

But hey, it... it also lets you play Snake! Who doesn't love Snake, huh?

Anyway, head out into the halls! Make some new friends - or maybe enemies, wouldn't that be exciting? Look around a little! Just make sure to be back for whatever this meeting is - after all, you want a chance to face off with your captor, right?

[The longer it goes, the more worried Shelley gets. She had hoped there'd be more progress than this, but...yeah, looks like it's official: they're not getting through those vault doors at all]

...if you can't do it then nothing short of the ocean itself coming down at once will.

[Which isn't really going to happen, so yeah. They're locked]

[ Oh good, so all they need is a Lapis! ]

I can't do it now. [ She finally relents and gives up on opening the vault, though not before giving the door one final spiteful punch. It accomplishes nothing beyond hurting her hand. ] Something like this — it shouldn't even be an obstacle.

[ But it very obviously is. Without thinking, her hand rises to her nose. ]

When I find who did this...

You will find him. He said he's going to talk to us later. If he shows his face you should break it and then get him to open that thing.

[Geez, Shelley, don't encourage her like that]

"Should?"

[ She's still rattled by her newfound weakness, which sharpens her retort. ]

The second this lowlife comes out of hiding, I'm going to beat all the answers I need out of [ there's an audible pause, and the pronoun sounds unfamiliar when it comes out of her mouth ] him. I don't need your permission.

Awesome, how reliable! You're a big orange hammer of wrath!

[This big woman is a bit surlier than she expected, but at least Jasper has the right idea. Shelley seems to be in good mood]

I'm surprised someone managed to catch you in the first place.

[ This human doesn't seem to cower too easily, does she? But then, Jasper hasn't exactly been trying to intimidate her — this is just kind of what she does. All the time. With everyone. She snorts. ]

However they did it, it wasn't a fair fight. Some kind of trap, or cheap trick — and now they think they've stacked the odds in their favor by locking away my powers.

Definitely was a cheap trick. The Professor is playing dirty, he knows he's outmatched.

[Like...Shelley isn't someone who feels scorn very often, but...that's a liiiitle cowardly, Professor. At least play fair!]

[ She makes another disgusted noise. This one is more of a khh than a tch or the obviously very different and unique ch. ]

I'll show that underhanded little weakling dirty... [ That statement is really just to herself, but the followup is directed at Shelley. ] You've been of some assistance.

[ This is a Jasper version of thank you. She'll probably retract it the second she mentions Atlantis to someone else! ]

What's your [ designation ] name?

Shelley. Pleased to meet you! What's yours?

Jasper.

[ And that's about all she offers! ]

I'm going to explore the rest of this... Atlantis. [ And she does, indeed, make to go. ] Guess I'll see you in an hour.

[ It's not like either of them have any choice about it, after all. ]

Go forth!

[Shelley takes her leave, understanding the conversation was over. Well that went better than she expected! She may have gotten startled by being greeted with...roaring and demands of information, but hey, it could have gone worse!]
