Another week, another three lost - and this time all to one murder case. And that's to say nothing of the execution, or whatever went on with that ouija board that still sits in the library... strange things are afoot in the facility, and some of them not even your captor seems fully equipped to explain.

The other of the two doors in the main living area finally opens after another lost Saturday, and what lies beyond is... strange, to say the least. Looks like there's no shortage of changes, even in the architecture. It certainly seems like you should have gotten something like this before the water park at the very least, don't you think?

Angel's still out and about at night, if you want to be found. And who knows what else you might find if you're out alone? Apparently, you might have a ghost on your hands.

Precisely. Most mage candidates in GRANBELM are eliminated just by destroying the core of their ARMANOX. That shatters their magic stone, and once you've lost one, you can't go back in with another. Even if you had one, you'd still have lost your chance, unless you were just using two for whatever reason.

But there's one other way, and it isn't common knowledge. Because if you die in action, right in Magiaconatus' illusionary world? It doesn't just harvest your power. It absorbs your soul and steals your life as it's leaving you. You're erased from history, and only candidates still in the game will remember you ever existed.

[He opens his mouth to say something, but closes it and shudders.]

That's... damn.

[Honestly, far be it from Therion "HP Thief/Steal SP" Octopath to shrink from the concept of sapping someone's life energy, but their soul? Their very existence in the universe? That's a cold, awful thought.]

...You'd think it'd happen a lot, if every fighter's half as committed as you. I mean... I'd feel as though that were the point of it all.

Of course, there's no way of knowing how often it has happened. When you say the point... do you mean like Rin's?

The Holy Grail War. She's spoken about it a few times. Some sort of competition with a computer simulation that replicates magic. But that aside, if death were the point, wouldn't we know?

Would you? Sounds like the sort of thing they'd keep quiet, if it strengthened the source of your magic. Or, well. You said it wipes the dead from memory, so how would you know, if every time it happened, everyone forgot?

...Perhaps. When you put it that way, there's a great deal we don't know. I'll find out when I become the Princeps Mage.
