WEEK 6

Another week, another three lost - and this time all to one murder case. And that's to say nothing of the execution, or whatever went on with that ouija board that still sits in the library... strange things are afoot in the facility, and some of them not even your captor seems fully equipped to explain.

The other of the two doors in the main living area finally opens after another lost Saturday, and what lies beyond is... strange, to say the least. Looks like there's no shortage of changes, even in the architecture. It certainly seems like you should have gotten something like this before the water park at the very least, don't you think?

Angel's still out and about at night, if you want to be found. And who knows what else you might find if you're out alone? Apparently, you might have a ghost on your hands.

That's really sweet, Mira. [ And yet she still looks so embarrassed. Did you know ducks can blush? ] ...I'm, uh. Sorry, if the kitchen was a little...mmmessy.

[ She certainly knows now! And she shakes her head. ]

It's okay. I'd love to help you next time, though.

That's probably for the best for everyone. [ SIGH. How about she tries one of these sweets. I don't even need to ask, I know they're great. ] Whoa. You weren't kidding, you really are great at this.

[philoxenia]

[ Aw, Della, you're gonna make her blush.... Too late, she already is! ]

Thank you. I'm really glad you like them--I thought it would be the right mix of sweet and tart....

It perfectly is. Have you made these a lot?

[philoxenia]

[ She nods, smiling a little. ]

Oh, yes. The batter itself is pretty forgiving for most flavors, but... I've made this particular combination very often, especially during the summer when you just need something kind of bright and refreshing.

Would you believe Donald's more the chef in my family? [ She takes another bite, humming softly. ] Did you teach yourself?

[philoxenia]

Ah, really? Do you think he'd mind having a cooking partner?

[ She hums thoughtfully, though. ]

Sort of. I went through a lot of recipe books before I settled on my specialties. I also watched Noah often, so some of my favorites are because of him.

I think he'd welcome it. He tried to give me some advice when we were younger but I never had the patience. ...Sounds a bit like the opposite in your case, though.

[ She's always delicate with the subject. But, Mira brought him up, so. ]

What else did you learn?

[philoxenia]

Most of the time I was patient...

[ She lets out a little laugh. ]

Except when it came to math... or science. I never could really get it, as much as he tried to help me. You should have seen when he tried to teach me balancing equations in chemistry, it was horrible.

You're in good company, Mira. I'm only good at a few sciences, and none of them are chemistry. I...mostly know things through application, though. Honestly, I never finished college.

[philoxenia]

It's certainly not for everyone. And you found something you really enjoy, right?

[ Nothing wrong with that...! She's quiet for a few moments, though. ]

I think he'd like you a lot. And-- maybe if things go well... [ She pauses again. ] ... Do you... remember when I said I talked about something with-- Ema? And I wanted to tell you?

[nothingcanstop]

[ Oh... Oh, alright. She nods and places a hand on Mira's arm. ]

I do. I remember well.

[philoxenia]

I'd like to tell you, if-- that's okay?

[nothingcanstop]

I'm all ears, Mira.

[philoxenia]

[ You're the best, Della. She nods and gives her a grateful smile, then... ]

I'm sure you haven't forgotten when I told you about my world... but it turns out, it's a lot more complicated than that. Rose got something from that machine... my brother's journal. He... wrote a lot than I'd ever realized he knew.

[ She takes a breath. It's easier this time for some reason, but it's still.... ]

... I've died, Della. A lot. But I always came back. I never remembered, and I still don't, but I have no reason to doubt Noah. I used to remember, but-- but I did something a couple of beings didn't like. Dying, being brought back, forgetting-- it was all part of some foolish game the gods decided to hold as a contest to see which of their champions would win. Two people, pitted against each other, for something so petty...

[ She lets out a sigh. ]

... Ema suggested it. That when this is all over, I'll march right up to those stupid gods and demand they bring Noah back. If they can bring me and that other one back, there's no reason they can't bring Noah back. It's the least they could do. And then--

You could meet him, if it all works out.

[nothingcanstop]

[ There is a lot to take in here. Della does her level best to stay calm and collected, but she does jolt a little, at the obvious revelation. The hand on Mira's arm, it tightens up a little bit. Like the girl might vanish, if she lets go. ]

That's... Mira. They... How could anyone do that to you?

[ This kind, sweet girl. This girl who loves and laughs and cries and smiles. She loves dinosaurs (the compsognathus especially) and baking, and making others feel better. Much like her reaction to Mira explaining the situation with her parents, Della is...floored, simply. How could someone do something like this, to someone so utterly lovable as Mira? ]

[philoxenia]

I... I don't know.

[ And that's the question, isn't it? The way Della says that, it-- it makes her throat tighten, makes her eyes sting a little. She looks away quickly to catch her breath, to keep herself from going to pieces. ]

Even my brother didn't know.

[nothingcanstop]

[ She closes her eyes tightly for a moment. In that moment, she categorizes every horrible, god-like thing she's ever encountered, and thinks about just how hard or easy it was to beat them up. ]

Well, we're... If you go talk to them, you will not be alone, okay? [ Both hands on Mira's shoulders. Centering her, grounding. ] I've faced down my fair share of all-powerful things, and I will not let some of them use you as their plaything.

[philoxenia]

[ It helps. And Mira reaches up, covering Della's hands with her own. She looks at her, and nods firmly. Her first instinct is to tell Della she doesn't have to, that she'll be okay, that she's not worth the risk, but... ]

If anyone has done that... I believe it's you. [ She gives Della's hands a light squeeze. And she lets herself accept that help. ] And with you there with me, they'll have to listen. I'd like to see them try to stop you.

[nothingcanstop]

[ A light smile, for Mira's sake. ]

I'll bring my uncle. Mira, every ten years, he wrestles a snake god to keep the world from ending. If I can't stop them, then Uncle Scrooge definitely can.

[philoxenia]

He wrestles--

[ She lets out a little laugh and ducks her head to wipe at her eyes. ]

He sounds incredible. I'd love to have him aboard.

[nothingcanstop]

[ She made her laugh. That's a good sign. Della pulls Mira into a hug. ]

He's my hero. [ In ten years, that hasn't changed. ] Between all of us... We'll get those gods to stop meddling with your life. And... And if we have to fight in Hades itself--which I have been to, for the record--we will, to get your brother back.

[philoxenia]

[ She hugs her back, and in her arms, she relaxes. ]

... You're really amazing... you know that? Y-you're willing to do all these things for me, and we've known each other only a little over a month...

[nothingcanstop]

All I'm doing is giving you what you should've had a long time ago. It doesn't feel amazing to me, Mira.
