WEEK 6

Another week, another three lost - and this time all to one murder case. And that's to say nothing of the execution, or whatever went on with that ouija board that still sits in the library... strange things are afoot in the facility, and some of them not even your captor seems fully equipped to explain.

The other of the two doors in the main living area finally opens after another lost Saturday, and what lies beyond is... strange, to say the least. Looks like there's no shortage of changes, even in the architecture. It certainly seems like you should have gotten something like this before the water park at the very least, don't you think?

Angel's still out and about at night, if you want to be found. And who knows what else you might find if you're out alone? Apparently, you might have a ghost on your hands.

[Well - she doesn't know which of these machines might be the most interesting, actually. They all look pretty industrial. Some of them have places where you're clearly meant to put a person, or their arm, or something, but...let's poke around a little more. Rose opens a door.

Why is that full of blood?

That's in case someone needs a transfusion. Either because of blood loss, or because they're sick and their body isn't making enough blood to sustain themselves at the moment.

[Or they're Alice, but we don't...we don't talk about Alice.]

We can use needles and tubes to infuse it into a person, to help keep them alive. I can imagine that's a little jarring to just kind of find like that, though.

[Yeah, Alice certainly occurs to her to, but she doesn't really want to bring her up. To think something like this was just here the entire time...]

I didn't know humans could...not make blood.

Usually that's only if something's gone really wrong. That's why eating is important - not doing it for a little while is okay, but if you get too malnourished then our bodies start breaking our blood down for the proteins in it.

That sounds painful! [like what can you say to this] Gems need light to maintain our forms, but it doesn't really hurt to be shut up in the dark. It just makes you really weak!

It actually probably isn't; blood doesn't feel pain.

[THIS IS SUCH A HAPPY CONVERSATION.]

A human would definitely have a lot of weakness and fatigue going on, and there would probably be muscle spasms and stuff that would be painful, but the actual cannibalization of blood cells doesn't hurt.

[well we don't have to talk about how that might compare to being locked in a dark room or something, actually!]

So, um...what's in here that I might be able to use, if someone got hurt? I know about...keeping the blood in. With bandages! [well, she's never done it once in her life, but the theory seems super basic!]

Bandages are a good start. They can also be used to splint things, if someone's broken one of their limbs - just put something rigid up against the injured part to keep it in place and prevent it from moving around too much, and wrap that and the injury with the bandages. It'll keep them from hurting themselves more.

[Hm...]

Actually, in the medicine cabinets over here, we've got things like disinfecting agents, which are also useful if someone starts bleeding. You should probably clean any open wounds out first before wrapping them, but if you don't have the opportunity that's okay. As long as it's done eventually.

So it's more important to bandage something right away and get the disinfectant later?

If the bleeding looks bad enough, then yeah.

What if there's something else in it? [like a knife or a giant statue or something? gonna avoid asgore's mistakes here]

...If you can see what did the, uh, injuring, and it's still in there, then you should leave it. Taking it out might just open it up worse, or cause more bleeding. Chances are, whatever it is being in there still is keeping most of the blood in.

[Rose nods. Got it, got it. Keeping the blood in is definitely the most important thing.]

This is all really good to know. Oh, maybe you could teach everybody sometime! [though, after a pause, she adds:] I guess the other humans might know that already.

It's probably a good idea, at any rate, just to make sure we're not completely at a loss if...

I'm not planning on going anywhere, okay? I just think it's for the best at the moment.

I know. I just hate thinking about things like that.

I don't blame you. It's kind of a lot, yeah? I'm sure it doesn't help that some of us are really cavalier about the whole thing.

[Not to name names or anything, but it's def not the first time she's had an uncomfortable chat about Birkin's potential demise.]

I know it doesn't really help, not to think about it. But I just...I can't. Not like other people do. [Not all the time, anyway. She's never been able to deal with the hard things.]

Some people can't. It's honestly probably the way most people are about that, actually; it's pretty uncommon for people to not be upset by it.

I think...well, I don't know. Maybe a lot of Gems got upset about things like that and just couldn't show it.

We're not really a common group anyway, are we?

In fairness, we're really not. It's not too much of a bad thing, though, at least not overall.

Still doesn't mean we should go around upsetting you, though.
