WEEK 6

Another week, another three lost - and this time all to one murder case. And that's to say nothing of the execution, or whatever went on with that ouija board that still sits in the library... strange things are afoot in the facility, and some of them not even your captor seems fully equipped to explain.

The other of the two doors in the main living area finally opens after another lost Saturday, and what lies beyond is... strange, to say the least. Looks like there's no shortage of changes, even in the architecture. It certainly seems like you should have gotten something like this before the water park at the very least, don't you think?

Angel's still out and about at night, if you want to be found. And who knows what else you might find if you're out alone? Apparently, you might have a ghost on your hands.

Wouldn't give away a weapon for it, but I have other things of use. Food, clothing. Various tools. Technology.

[Most of which he doesn't know how to use, anyway.]

Maybe. What kind of technology?

Couple of those game things. Ribbon spooled inside black boxes, shiny metal discs. Other things I don't really know how to describe. I could bring them here.

...You may as well so I can look at them.

I'm not going to be going anywhere anytime soon.

[ Dryly, and he's a patient man. ]

[Therion returns with the following packed up in a bag improvised from a bathrobe:

55. Free Trial Disc - A CD advertising 2000 hours of free internet. Man, these sure have gotten desperate, huh? (x3)
13. Air Tank - A tank of air suitable for diving. It would be a great help towards getting out of here… if you had a door, and if it weren’t empty. (x2)
63. VHS Tape - A blank tape of some kind??? It might not be just the fantasy characters who don’t recognize this. It contains a recording of various McDonalds commercials.
68. Incredible Soaking Device - A water gun! Surely you will all be very responsible with this.
27. 9999 in 1 Game Device - A handheld device for playing retro games! There’s actually only about twenty, they just repeat in the menu until they reach 9999. Also they all suck.
74. Foam Dart Pistol - A small pistol that uses pressurized air to shoot foam darts! No notable brand, but it works well enough.
28. Toy Laser Sword - A toy sword handle with a collapsible blade in one of several different colors! Not affiliated with any existing multimedia franchise.
GEM DESTABILIZER: A yellow device that looks a little like an arrow-shaped tuning fork, with an orb suspended between the two tips and a longer handle. It's been snapped in half.
A fake badass tattoo - It has flames and a skull and even a knife. With this, you can murder your enemies, go to prison, make everyone your bitch and then murder them too, and go to... some kind of super prison?]

...Not really, no.

[ There really wasn't anything useful, even if his eyes lingered on the fake pistol. He'd prefer to have a real one. ]

Not an issue of being difficult, but there's nothing I could really use.

[bolderfell]

[Sigh.]

Fine. [He points to the 9999-in-1 device.] This thing's all right, though. You're missing out.

[valentinus]

[ ...A little laugh escaped him. ]

What's it supposed to do, anyway?

[bolderfell]

It's... you've seen the tall boxes in the arcade, right? The ones that make light and sound? Each of those gives you a game to play, but this one has almost ten thousand.

[Oh, no. For those who know how to read him, he looks so proud, explaining one (1) whole technology to someone.]

[valentinus]

[ ...That sure was excitement indeed. ]

I've never played around in the arcade, but I think I'm vaguely aware that there are games there.

I also have had no reason to entertain myself using any of those machines. I'm afraid I don't even know how to use them properly in the first place.

Your world doesn't have them, either?

[valentinus]

...I think Midgar had them, when it was once still an actual, thriving city. But, I never made a habit of doing too much recreational activity.

[ He's too antisocial and somewhat maybe too anti-fun (?) for that. ]

...Something happened to your city?

[Is it storytime? Therion loves storytime.]

[valentinus]

[ Yes, it was. And one Vincent could tell easily, considering technically he had spoken of it before, though briefly to the other. ]

Do you remember when I told you about Meteorfall a couple weeks back? Sephiroth, the man who had conjured the spell, directed the city to be the spell's impact center. Aerith had managed to thwart his attempts from destroying the world, as I've said...though there were still consequences.

There was still enough power let off to leave the city a wreck, and as a result many had to be evacuated or eventually abandoned what was left of the place.

[bolderfell]

Ah.

[He can only imagine. A spell big enough to destroy an entire city--and it seems like cities in other worlds are so much bigger than he can picture. How many must have died? How much was lost?]

Was that Midgar place your home?

[valentinus]

[ Even though a world was saved, and many lives as a consequence were, there was still a good loss of life for those unable to evacuate in time. And...for what came after. ]

No. I've been without a home for many years now, and even if I had one at one point, I've...forgotten what it might've been.

But, Midgar was a relatively familiar place in my memory, and I'd been there many times as a result of my previous work.

[bolderfell]

[Therion nods. That's relatable. All of it.]

Then I'm sorry. Losing an old haunt isn't easy. ...And neither is losing a friend on top of it.

[valentinus]

[ He'll open his mouth, ready to say that he's no need to trouble himself over it, but he'll leave it, as he's said enough. But before he elected to bring this to a close he will then grab the diamond, having reached a decision. ]

...you also know what it's like, don't you?

[ He'll hold out the item for the other to take. ]

I've still no interest in that thing you offered, but consider this fair trade for listening. Both times.

[Well, shit, dude! Far be it from Therion to pass up free wealth. He takes the diamond before Vincent can change his mind.]

[Time to pack his junk back up again and skedaddle on his happy, bejeweled way.]
