So far, good news! You've managed to avoid killing! A week has passed in the facility, but how many more are there to go until one of you tries out Rule Seven? I mean.... we know, but.

No new areas just yet, it remains you guys and yours here for now. Well, and Angel, but again - you don't exactly see her unless you want to. It's more than a little lonely... maybe someone ought to shake things up.

Yeah. So I'm going to be making some absolutely hideous requests to the kitchen staff, probably. These guys specifically are predators, but they're bad at it so I'm pretty sure it won't mind not having to fight its food first.

[It will pause in its oozing long enough to...change colors? It sure does seem to ripple a little on the color front, blue and black and something weirdly fleshy. Nice.]

I love them! All the wonderful organic life forms on Earth - they're so varied and beautiful. I fell in love with them the minute I saw them!

She said you were able to do some pretty impressive things with plants and stuff. I was wondering if you wouldn't mind telling me about that, it sounded pretty interesting.

Oh!

[well that's not half as bad as she expected!]

Yes! I can grow and control plants! I don't use it for that much these days - just making flowers and helping the flowering moss from the lake find sunlight.

[jasper's wording was a lot more derogatory than that but there's no need to be rude about it and this is what birkin took away from all of that anyway.]

That sounds really impressive, honestly. We've got ways to manipulate them a bit - we can get some impressive size on some of them, and either some of them just spontaneously get personalities when we do that or plants are a lot more sentient than we think they are. But we can't really control them that well, we can just influence what they do a little and let them go from there.

Oh, I can't control the sentient ones! I just try not to let it get that far unless I mean it to.

[She hasn't accidentally made a horrible plant beast in ages!]

Good to know that just happens to plants if you mess with them enough.

They were never really my thing, granted; my wife and one of my coworkers did some interesting stuff with plants, though, they'd probably love the stuff you can do with them.

I don't know if any other gems have that power. Not very many, at least.

[The explanation for why a Rose Quartz has so many random powers...well, there's been a lot. She just let those rumors grow as they pleased. It's not like any of them ever came close.]

What kind of things do they do?

That depends on whether we're talking about the plants or the people. The plants like exploring whatever area they're in, they like to end up checking out the vents and going into other rooms that we didn't originally put them in. They also like spitting acid at people. One of them really likes to fight, the other likes just sitting around and eating pretty much anything. Like, Amethyst-levels of "will eat anything."

The people are like I am. Researchers, primarily. We do a lot of stuff with science and sometimes things that benefit humanity fall out of it.

I've made a few plants that liked to fight. It's never as good an idea as it sounds. [very hard to control...]

My coworker made that one. Given how much he liked to fight, I'mm not too surprised the plant came out wanting to kill God.

[Rose giggles, because obviously that's a joke, right? Right???]

I've found they work like that for me, too. Very focused on whatever I was thinking about, at the time. It took me a little while to get a handle on that power.

[i mean he has no doubt that plant would absolutely fight god behind the 7-11, but that's less an indication of its actual feelings on said god and more because fuck yeah, something new to fight.]

So what are your favorites to work with? Through curiosity.

I like the ones with flowers best. I have this garden full of enormous rosebushes - oh, and the flowering moss! That's something that's been a little effected by Gem energy, so it only lives near the Temple. Once a year, I bring it up the hillside so it can bloom in the sun.
