THIRD TRIAL

[ Once all the needed information has been pulled from the PARTY ZONE and nearby echelons, Davy Jones once again does his rounds to collect everyone and bring them to the theatre. ]

You are all familiar with this procedure by now, step quickly!

[ And with the blast of the organ, down the elevator starts to go, into the bowels of the ship below. Things darken and then, as before, you hear a song from the crew of the Dutchman drifting predatory below. ]

Take yer places, all of ye.

[ The circle of podiums remains, two more podiums rusted over and aged. Jones takes his place, meanwhile, looking out the window at the sea.

The shanty dies down, and the atmosphere darkens.

Welcome to your third trial. ]

...Actually, something about that isn't adding up to me. If we are dealing with someone of that kind of skill, why stage something so elaborate? Why bring down the chandelier at all? Would it not be less trouble to simply kill Sylvando and therefore have less evidence to clear up?

...They could have been trying to obfuscate their own skill, hoping we'd be distracted by the chandelier enough to think that'd would have killed him.

[Misdirection is a powerful thing. See exhibit A: the whole Alice thing last trial.]

Or...they could have just been pointlessly dramatic. I don't know why, but...

[personal profile] ahelpingpaw 2021-02-20 09:16 pm (UTC)(link)
...maybe something about the chandelier was inconvenient for the killer?

[Don't ask him what, though, he has no idea. He just is thinking that the most simple reason for throwing the chandelier down is that it being up there was not great for the killer]

We still haven't checked people's shoes--or, er, feet. But I think for those that don't wear shoes, walking on glass would obviously cause more injury.

Either way, it should be taken care of.

...I'm in agreement.

[Like, she kind of hates Risotto's face at the moment, but being uncooperative isn't going to help and she'll gladly submit to a check.]

[ ...Understandable, really.

If he were a nicer person, he'd have shown some remorse, but the fact was, he's blunt to the point of rudeness. But... ]

...I can take care of it. [ Unless someone wanted to object to that. ] If you want, you can provide some assistance.

[personal profile] paucipan 2021-02-20 09:34 pm (UTC)(link)
...I'd like to assist.

[Honestly, mood, Risotto. Plumeria isn't a nice person either, but...]

I'm not going to sit around and do nothing.

You don't seem like the type of person who would.

[ He's not feeling like the most patient person. Particularly for this trial. Time to rock and roll. ]
guffawsungraciously: boy does he love playing with his bangs. (are you there?)

[personal profile] guffawsungraciously 2021-02-20 09:17 pm (UTC)(link)
...

I cannot really argue with the desire to add a bit of extra drama, admittedly.
guffawsungraciously: he's smugly brushing his bangs out of his face. (THIS WORLD IS IMPERFECT)

It almost sounds like what he might want.

...almost.

Less trouble but without the chandelier we would have come to that conclusion sooner.

Bringing down the chandelier could have been less to cover up the cause of death and more to cause chaos - it will be harder to figure things out if we're spending all of our time wondering why the chandelier was dropped in the first place, ja? But that seems far too risky - it seems the killer had to do dispose of glass shards anyway, so there certainly was a chance that they could be caught with a check...

[This is just going in circles at this point, so he shrugs. He doesn't know???]

[personal profile] jibunwo 2021-02-20 09:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Sara did find those glass shards wrapped in a towel, but...why just those shards? Why clean up any at all?
scouserer: (02)

[personal profile] scouserer 2021-02-20 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Have you tried picking glass shards off your own body with your bare hands?
jibunwo: (look out to the future)

[personal profile] jibunwo 2021-02-20 09:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I can't say the situation's ever presented itself, no.
onlyyoucan: Trying to keep it together. (just turn it off)

[personal profile] onlyyoucan 2021-02-20 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
So you think that was just what got on the culprit? Then why not drop them there?
conceivesfrenzy: (39)

[personal profile] conceivesfrenzy 2021-02-20 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I mean, glass would stick in the towel, right? Would you want to pick the glass off of that?
scythegun: (... ⇝)

[personal profile] scythegun 2021-02-20 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)
A check certainly would have caught them, and it's likely that they didn't want to risk dragging glass back to their room. So that much seems to make sense.
