Three more of your number gone - or four, depending on your point of view. But regardless, you're down three bodies. The boat is getting less crowded, week by week. A loneliness only exacerbated by yet another new floor, and yet another section of topdeck. There are almost too many facilities for you to use by now, aren't there? And yet the amenities keep on coming. One of them is even personalized, this time, and perhaps not in a way you're fully comfortable with.

Who knows, maybe if your number falls enough, you'll be able to just exist permanently on the different floors. Might keep you out of the trial room for more than a week.

Are you at the point where you'd settle for that yet?

And if you look to the horizon, out in the distance... there are clouds starting to gather on the horizon this week.

You have lived for a thousand years and the world probably wasn't the same back then as it is now. Maybe you'll live another thousand and see all this stuff be developed. It's not impossible!

[Things to be saying when you're ignorant about the other person's circumstances, geez]

That would be nice. [Who knows how long Seteth's been alive for, he's her baseline as far as life expectancy goes.] But it is going to take some time to get there, I think.

Probably. It's not guaranteed it will because, you know, worlds aren't gonna all have the same stuff, but you probably will see many of these things pop up during your lifetime.

[Imagine seeing things get all technological, Flayn, it'll be something]

Hey, want to see mine? It's not as elaborate as this monastery, but it's nice on its own merits, I think you'll like it.

[Her eyes just light up.]

Oh, yes! I would very much like to see it!

It's right over there! Against the wall. It's a place I was in half a year ago, but it's a place that meant a lot to me for quite a while.

[He looks so excited to show Snaxburg to Flayn. What can he say, despite the bad experiences it was a turning point in his life. Look at it, Flayn, look! It's Snaxburg!]

Cute, right? I was the deputy mayor of this village before we went back to the mainland and I got elected. Snaxburg was really small, but it was something!

Oooh...

[Coming close and crouching to get a better look! What a diverse and interesting place! There's all these little houses and a tiny Filbo...]

I love it! It - it reminds me a little of the island of Brigid, actually. We were there briefly to secure reinforcements. [She'd gotten to go on the trip with Petra and Bernadetta and the Professor and though it was a little scary, it was also so different from Fodlan! So lovely!] It is lush and tropical there, much how parts of this island are! Who else lived in Snaxburg with you?

We were just twelve grumps, all of us coming for one reason or another. My friend Lizbert, this amazing explorer and hunter of undiscovered creatures, was the leader! And she went around talking about Snaktooth and that got some people's interest, enough to get a couple scientists and adventurers to come along, and then the rest of us just were...you know, normal people! Looking for a new life of some sort! Data somehow got a photo with most of us, maybe later I could show it to you.

[Really, if the purpose of the expedition was to study Bugsnax it was seriously understaffed on that regard, hah]

I was there just because Lizbert asked me to. We had known each other for a long time, so how couldn't I just be there because she asked me.

I would very much like to see the picture. [She is imagining all grumps to be cyan with red noses, so she's going to be very surprised.] Lizbert is...listed on your "likes", is she not? She must be a very dear friend to you, especially if you followed her all that way away from home.

She really was a great friend. We came from the same town and school, and, uh...I was picked on a lot back then, but Liz defended me so much even though she was many years older than me and we just kept getting along since then!

[He sounds so genuinely fond of her, hah]

It's thanks to her I'm the person I'm now in every way possible. I just can't imagine how my life would be like if it wasn't for her.

[There's just a softly pained look that flashes in Flayn's eyes because who the heck would bully Filbo, and then...]

She sounds wonderful. But...you are talking about her in the past tense. Did something happen?

She, uh... [Filbo sighs] She's gone. I dunno if she's alive or not, but she...she saved the lives of everyone who had gone to Snaktooth, and then she and another friend stayed behind to, well...never be able to return to the mainland.

[That brought him so much guilt, that's for sure. Filbo doesn't know if Lizbert is alive or dead after five months since the return to the mainland, but after some serious conversations after the first trial he has started to face the possibility she's dead. The sooner he accepts that, the better.

Hah! Well she and Egg probably are still hella alive even after this long, but he probably will never find out. Oh well]

[There's a pause, and Flayn...moves closer.]

I am sorry to hear that - it is a shame I will not get to meet her myself. Would it be alright if I gave you a hug?

[Because that's very sad, Filbo. You need a hug.]

[Filbo wordlessly spreads his arms. It's hard to accept someone who meant so much to you probably is gone. It's going to be a long while before he manages to reach acceptance, but he's inching closer with each day that has passed since he started to take that as a possibility.

He's really trying]

[And Flayn gives him a hug. She's still a tiny person, but it is a strong hug, one that tries to impress a feeling of shared loss to Filbo.

It is difficult, when someone who means so much to you is gone and never to return. Even with fantastical promises made by an egotistical man trying to orchestrate your death. It is hard, but thankfully, there are people who will understand.]

If it helps at all, Filbo...those who we have lost will always be with us in our hearts. I am sure that Lizbert is with you there, always.
