WEEK 6

Good morning, passengers. Happy Sunday. Happy New Year.

Three more of your number gone - or four, depending on your point of view. But regardless, you're down three bodies. The boat is getting less crowded, week by week. A loneliness only exacerbated by yet another new floor, and yet another section of topdeck. There are almost too many facilities for you to use by now, aren't there? And yet the amenities keep on coming. One of them is even personalized, this time, and perhaps not in a way you're fully comfortable with.

Who knows, maybe if your number falls enough, you'll be able to just exist permanently on the different floors. Might keep you out of the trial room for more than a week.

Are you at the point where you'd settle for that yet?

And if you look to the horizon, out in the distance... there are clouds starting to gather on the horizon this week.

[ I am so glad to give you this opportunity... anyway, Magica sighs and sort of throws one hand up in a gesture of very slight concession. ]

Look, much as I loathe justifying myself to the likes of you, I'm already a latent fount of dark magic. [ She uses the aforementioned hand to point to her yellow eyes and their triangular pupils. ] I mean, you didn't think this was natural, did you?

Well...no, I did not think ducks naturally changed color overnight. [Do you take her for a fool.] But there is an issue - the core is not originally mine. It belonged to Decus. Would a request to have it in your posession not better be done through him?

[I mean considering we're in murdergame past right now there's...not much we can do about it, but...]

... I mean, he did offer me a full-on medieval mace in public? So, by all means.

[ She knows this is a disingenuous point, but a.) it's Magica why would she care and, more importantly, b.) if there's one person onboard who seems to trust her magical expertise in a positive way, that's Decus! Given about ten minutes with him, she's confident she could swing it. ]

Flayn considers this, and though she doesn't seem too pleased about the idea...]

Then...I suppose the core is yours to do with as you will, while we are on this boat.

["While we are on this boat" very much implies that being off the boat makes the dang thing Decus's once again.]

I knew you'd see reason eventually.

[ She says this not knowing that Decus is gonna be dead as hell in but a few short days, but the mood is still smug as hell! Still, Magica doesn't grab the core or anything, at least not yet. She takes the concept of this, at least, seriously enough to not want to maintain contact with whatever this thing is unless strictly necessary.

Instead, she climbs back onto the stool she was originally seated on and regards Flayn. ]

So. What do you want to know?

[This better be worth the exchange.]

The Captain has those dolls. Their magic is the kind I have never seen before, but there must be a way to combat it. Would you have an idea of what we could do to protect ourselves, should he decide he is bored of waiting for us to kill each other?

[magycks]

Bad news first, then: if he has these dolls bound to us, the only way to ensure they're harmless is to get our hands on them and neutralize them ourselves. Chances are he's taken something from us — hair, or blood, or whatever Data's equivalent of either of those things is — and is using that to establish the magical connection. If we could just remove those, this would all be much easier.

Now, there are rituals to remove image magic's hold on you, but I'm not going through the entire Maqlû for sixteen people just to watch another person's head get popped off the next morning.
