Welp We're Here and That's What Matters
[Perhaps it's tradition by now, he doesn't know. Still, he does send a note to everyone some time after the trial. Simple and to the point:]
Because everything on this ship is awful, I think a drink is needed. Come get some at the bar, it'll do you some good as long as you don't drink too much
Filbo (pawprint)
[Indeed, if you come to the bar you'll find there's one of everything. Filbo seems to have asked literally every drink he knows or has at least heard about, and lined them up from the most mellow to the strongest. There's one of each, so it's limited, take yours before it's gone! Or...ask Jimmy Buffett for more, he's right there.
Should he be encouraging drinking? He's not completely certain, but he had to do something! And this is as good as anything -- not festive because this is no time to be festive, but also social enough to encourage coming.
This will do.]

She goes to the ice cream parlor first, grabbing the biggest bowl she can find and just. Filling that sucker up with the fancy ice creams. She brings it down to the party with her and...gives it to Filbo.]
This is for you, if you have need of it. I did not put any of the "froyo" inside.
[Is it a thank you for making the afterparty? An acknowledgement of Filbo's internal pain now that Freyja is gone? Why not both!
After that, Flayn gets a pitcher of orange juice from the Jimmy Buffet to add some to a half-full glass of white wine to sip, responsibly, with a plate of breakfast food. Hey, if she's going to be the baby-faced nonhuman who drinks while contemplating death, she's going to do it while preventing a massive hangover. You're welcome to join her, but do note that Flayn will only have one glass of the wine and juice mix. After that's gone, it's just juice for her.
At some point she will slip away from the party, though - to go to the top deck gazebo and watch the sky change from day to night. She's got Emily and Jimmy Bear with her, and it seems she found Emily's brush and other outfit in Sara's room, because she's taking the time to braid the doll's hair, and is...talking to her?]
- Will not ever know why she felt so certain that mortals would treat her cruelly. But perhaps she was changing her mind, if she was willing to take such a risk to make her perfect future come to pass, and it truly had all of us...
[Emily is a good listener.]
top deck gazebo
He approaches quietly, careful not to startle Flayn. After getting within a few yards, he clears his throat to announce his presence.]
How's Emily doing?
[Because right now, it's easier for him to acknowledge the doll than it is to acknowledge...well, anything else.]
no subject
...She is alright. I kept her away from the scene today.
[Sara would bring Emily everywhere, but Flayn would like to spare her the sight of more death if she can. The teddy she made for herself, on the other hand? He's gotta go through the grim shit with Flayn, he has no choice.]
Jimmy Bear is a bit shaken, but I think with time he will be fine.
no subject
Ah. Glad to hear that. I'm sure Sara would've wanted her to be kept safe.
[He glances towards her pointed ears. He didn't comment last week, since...he was ridiculously drunk at the time, but...]
So, you're done pretending that you're an ordinary human, hm?
no subject
[She's never going to realize that she's just terrible at lying, is she.]
I do not even like to lie.
no subject
[He crosses his arms, giving Flayn a measured look.]
S'not like you have to apologize for anything. Everyone has things they'd like to hide about themselves. [He cocks his head to the side.] So, then, what's the actual deal with the ears? You an elf or something?

My people are known in legend as the Children of the Goddess of Fodlan. But I am, in actuality, a Granddaughter of the Goddess...we called ourselves "Nabatean". There are very few of us left. [She lets that factoid sit in Constantine's mind for a moment before adding,] We can live for an extraordinarily long time, and can usually shift between a human form and our true form, which I think you would consider akin to a dragon. But I have not been able to do that for a long time.
[Constantine...so far, has proven himself to be a good man. A sad man, but a good man at heart. So, Flayn trusts him enough to explain being a dragon person.]
no subject
Huh. Did not expect that, of all things.
[You know. Flayn really being a dragon, but also that whole thing about her being basically descended from a goddess....]
You say there used to be more? What happened to the others, if I may ask?
cw: fucked up fire emblem shit
[Which is, uh, the very short and kind way of putting it.]
It was very long ago - the Goddess was slain in her sleep by a bandit named Nemesis. He and his followers killed all the Nabateans they could find residing in our ancestral home, Zanado, and took their bones, hearts, and blood to bestow crests and power unto themselves. [Flayn brings her arms up to sort of hug herself.] The only one who survived was my aunt, Seiros. Saint Seiros. My father, and two of my uncles, and myself...we did not live in Zanado, so we were spared, but after that...we had no choice but to fight back. And once Nemesis was defeated...well. I was hurt, and had to rest for many years. But once I awoke, my father made it very clear that I could not be myself among people. We had to hide who we were, or...
[Or the same fate could befall them.]

Ice Cream
[He seems so touched Flayn went out of her way to get him such fancy ice cream]
Something other than hard liquor will do me good, I suppose.
no subject
[Also yeah, you ought to have something in your stomach if you're going to be drinking, even Flayn knows that.]
And...sometimes, it is nice to have sweet things when you are sad. I am not certain why it helps, but it does.
no subject
[That probably isn't how it works, but hey, not everything needs to have some complicated reason behind it. Sometimes things just help and that's it, he figures]
Maybe instead of all these drinks I should have gotten a lot of something sweeter, but I dunno, the sweeter stuff I could think were, you know, ice cream. I figured some of us wouldn't wanna anything from over there.
[That and he wasn't in mood of something like that. Despite looking like he's doing well and he isn't repressing anything -- thankfully he has stopped poisoning his own heart by repressing the things he felt in this murdercruise -- that this is a liquor gathering instead of something cheerier definitely is a sign of his own mood]
no subject
[Also, the charcoal stuff was always. Weird? To Flayn? She knows it can be used to combat poisons and things but also why would you willingly eat it? And knowing her, she'd make a mess if she tried using the froyo machines.]
...After you went through all of this trouble for us, I shall have to try at least one drink. Do not worry, I will be responsible.
no subject
[Boy has he seen in this very ship the results of someone going a little too hard with the booze. If Flayn doesn't drink often and is one hell of a lightweight that will be quite a mess, he thinks, hah]
no subject
[This isn't "I'm going to get pissed within the hour" drinking.]

Good. The other night I found John almost passed out in the lazy river, and that was...not a great moment. If he comes I'm gonna have to keep an eye on him. It makes me feel like I'm babysitting him, but somebody's gotta do it.
[Filbo may as well do it, really]
no subject
I promise I shall not drink that much, but...should I keep an eye on Mister Constantine as well? You cannot be expected to watch over everyone all the time.

gaaaaasp Flayn is drinking
...it's half now.
[Though he's still terrible at coming up with good topics of conversation.
it's one drink!!!!
...Maybe I should not have said anything when we were contemplating our numbers.
[It's fine.]
Seteth is going jiiiii
[He sighs.]
I knew it right away. I guessed it right the first time. But you know, I don't feel any better about it.
He has wine at the fantasy jrpg sacraments, it's fine
[Flayn feels so very fooled, and yet...also some other emotion that she cannot quite place.]
She would not have admitted it so soon, anyway.
no subject
[Lalli, still missing the point of why everyone was arguing with him.]
no subject
[Flayn is at least willing to explain her own thoughts on the matter. Everyone else would have to do so on their own terms.]
But maybe it was foolish of me to think so. Once it was revealed, it...made sense. Plumeria served Freyja as a retainer, and in my experience, those who do so are more than willing to lay down their lives through any means necessary. Of course she would allow herself to die - it was for her Lady. That...does not make it any less sad, though.
no subject
[Really he was only right about some of the details. Right for the wrong reasons, really. Which absolutely fits with his character because he is good at noticing things but bad at understanding people.]
...I wish we hadn't been so mean to her at trial. She was trying to help all of us, and we spent the last hours of her life yelling at her.
no subject
[If they get any of these trials wrong, all of them will die. There's no guarantee Jack will hold up his end of the motive bargain, too. It's all a risk, and they're all stressed.]
But perhaps...she was expecting it. "This sort of thing is what mortals do to people like me"...though I cannot speak for her experiences, I can surmise...that the mortals of her world have brought her many pains.
[Which might be why she flipped out over having no hesitation to kill them when her brother was dangled in front of her.]
While it is a sentiment I do not share, I can also see how it might arise.
