Another week, another three gone in the case alone, not to mention Chloe earlier in the week. Even as you gain access to another floor, the ship by now must be starting to feel more empty than ever. It's been a long time by now, approaching two months.

Where do you think you'll be, in two months more time?

The clouds have begun to gather around the ship, this week.

[A nod at the first part; that's certainly how he feels.]

Ja, they are. The green-haired one is Droite, her sister is Gauche. I took them in several years back; their orphanage has been struggling to make ends meet for awhile now, and they were eager to join me when I helped them out.

[That's the simplified version of the story, anyway. Somewhere in there his eyes strayed to the device, and it's a struggle to return his attention to the sharks.]

I don't know what I would do if anything happened to them.

[Weeks ago, his response to this would have been different. But weeks in a murdergame have a way of forcing you through your goddamn character development.]

Theodora and were taking care of these three orphans. Sweet kids, really needed a home with humans who would know how to help him.

The idea of people you care about getting hurt.....

Ja. It's an obvious threat to use against us, and someone will kill for it, but it certainly is a low blow that he waited until now for it.

[It was long enough to think that maybe he wouldn't go for it, and long enough for Yeager to get his goddamn character development.]

I wish I could argue with you, but you're right.

We've gotten lucky, if you want to call it that, about most of the deaths being accidental. But this time around...?

[He shakes his head.]

It's so much to take in.

I can't imagine it would be accidental this time. Things are different now.

[Acting for personal gain and acting to save someone you care about are very different, after all.]

No. It certainly won't be an accident this time around.

It's horrible, looking at people and wondering who's going to be the one to snap and kill someone else.

It is. But that's simply the way things are in this place; there isn't really anything we can do to stop it right now.

[sivard]

Yeah.

Nothing we can do at all to prevent it... not unless we can find Jack.
