FIRST TRIAL
[ After a while, once all the appropriate clues have been found, Mayor Fontaine calls out again over the speakers. ]
Alright, citizens, pack it in quick and head to the back of the Hall of the Founders. You have business to take care of.
[ When they do reach the Bathysphere station, Eleanor is manning the controls, gaze quiet and even over the crowd. The hatch at the front of the strange elevator is open, and everyone is gestured inside. A series of small submerisbles are lined up, waiting to be ridden. ]
Just hop into the bathyspheres one or two at a time, and the system will get you where you need to go.
[ It's a long, cramped ride from here, but Fontaine's word is true. At least you can tune into the radio in the pod?
The bathyspheres take you down until even the few lights of Rapture are out of sight, down until lights of a different kind are visible - the reds and blues of bioluminescent sea creatures, a little too out of your way to make out what they are, blending to a strange sort of not-quite-purple as the bathysphere reaches its final destination: a glass dome built into the sea floor, about the size of an average house.
As one by one the bathyspheres arrive carrying the new citizenry of New Rapture, less natural lights than those of the creatures around you begin to click on in the dome. In the center, most of the space is taken up by a circle of podiums, each with an image of one of you engraved into it.
A projector of some kind kicks on, which combined with the lighting allows for the familiar silhouette of Mayor Fontaine at his chair to appear on the side of the dome, watching over you. ]
Time to do your best to figure out who killed the Diamond in the Rough. And do yourselves a favor: keep it interesting. I'm here if you have any burning inquiries.
[ And here it is.
Welcome to your first trial. ]

EXECUTION - Is There Still Anything That Love Can Do?
Annnnnd big bang boom. You all hit the nail right on the head. Stormchaser is guilty. And according to the rules, well… you all went and figured out what happens for yourselves, so how about we just cut to the chase?
[ The room goes dark, the projector and the lights from the podium buttons both cutting out. Anyone near to or touching Hodaka (so… Forrest) will feel a slight whoosh of air as he vanishes, and the faint smell of something… metallic?
After a few long, quiet moments, the projector whirs back on, and this time… oh, there’s four projectors, actually, for each of the cardinal directions on the walls, projecting the same thing.
Hodaka stands alone, panicked, looking around himself as he stands on the roof of… some sort of building? With an old shrine gate in the background? It’s raining, and there’s wind picking up. Or… at least there is, for a moment.
At the other end of the roof, very suddenly, stands a girl who, well… you’re all actually familiar with this one, aren’t you? She’s been in the facility for half a week. Hard to forget a face when Hodaka spent so much time staring at it.
And Hodaka sees it too, so he doesn’t see that she only starts to smile when he looks at her. And he runs to her.
It’s a frantic, fearful run. He almost trips more than once, nearly slips on the rain-slicked surface of the roof. The rain stops, of course, when she appears. The sun emerges from the clouds above.
It’s a beautiful day.
But as he’s nearly reached her, as Hodaka and Hina are nearly reunited, something stops him in his tracks. It’s impossible to see exactly what it is from this distance, but something in her face flickers, just for a moment. His eyes widen…
And Hina, or whatever it is that looks like Hina, raises a pistol.
From this distance, the shot clean through Hodaka’s head isn’t particularly loud or even gory. It’s quick, it’s real, and then it’s over. Hodaka falls back to the ground, and that’s it.
Hodaka Morishima is dead.
The feed cuts. ]
Head back up at your leisure, citizens. The rest of the night is yours.
[ At the back of the room, the Bathyspheres unlock! Congratulations on surviving your first trial, everyone who did! ]

The collar of her blouse feels tight around her neck.
She knows she should look away, but she can't. Not that there's anywhere to look with the projectors at all angles on the walls. She wants to believe that perhaps this really is some trick or final test - that Hodaka will escape with his life and they'll have a ray of hope that they really will make it out of this alive.
As if.
At the sound of the gunshot, Mielle's hands fly to her mouth in shock. Her eyes are painfully wide, her face so pale it's almost green. But then after two short ticks, they roll back in her head and almost in tandem with Hodaka, Mielle collapses to the ground in a dead faint. ]
no subject
He steps and catches her. ]
Mielle...! Ah, shoot.
[ Time to... check her vitals? He's not actually a medic, um. ]
no subject
no subject
She's... she's alright.
[ Time to Carry A Girl! ]
no subject
[...we're having A Day.]
Is there... Can I do anything to help?
no subject
[Poor girl...]
no subject
Drakkon thinks for a moment. ]
Well, I'll need someone to help me get her into your suite. After that, depends on how long she's out, but she'll probably need some water, at the very least.
no subject
Penelope rushes to Mielle's side to try and catch her, but she's like... 5'1 and has the muscles of someone who hans't needed them for her entire life. She looks to Blackhawke for help.]
no subject
All a lie...
That's cruel, even for this place.
no subject
oh man. oh wow.]
...you are absolutely disgusting, Fontaine.
[time to storm out and maybe get upset in a bathysphere alone because fuck anyone else getting to see that.]
no subject
Probably.]
no subject
The Undertaker is one of the first to leave the Bathysphere. ] Right. Memorial service later tonight. I'll be making preparations if anyone needs me.
[ With that, he'll wander off into the hotel. ]|
no subject
Why did she do that?!
[ He's lost the plot a little! ]
no subject
They were probably never even here.
no subject
Oh.
no subject
[ Sigh. ]
no subject
[It's about the Poor Presentation!!]
I guess they wanted Hodaka to know he... [She frowns. The next words that would have come out of her mouth die quickly. Died for nothing.]
no subject
There's worse reasons to die for, probably. [ Reassuring? It carries a quiet note with it, so maybe he's not completely being callous. ]
We'll just have to see. But I don't think all of this group can be bargained with reason, given their current state.
[ Things are a mess. ]
no subject
What an awful fate.]
Yeah. Nothing we can do about it now except destroy this game...
no subject
[ He has to say it, just to be safe. ]
no subject
But he does. He can't tear away from the horrible image.
He doesn't scream or cry when Hodaka gets shot, he just silently watches, full of despair. There is a full minute after the feed cut before Jonathan finally moves, slowly walking out, automatically.
He can't help anyone.]
no subject
Wow. Ok. That was fucking brutal and I'm gonna go forget any of today ever happened.
no subject
When the lights come back up, he finally stands, power-walking for the bathyspheres. He doesn't really acknowledge anybody else; he'll take one alone this time.]
