WEEK 3

Well, the tail end of Week 2 could have gone better. That's the first thing to note.

The second thing is... hang on, should it be Week 3 yet? You've all gone to sleep (or... not, in the case of anyone who doesn't), but when you wake up (and you do all wake up), the calendar and clock on your device informs you that it's Sunday. In-character, all characters explicitly have absolutely no memory of Saturday.

Your sense of time isn't the only thing that's changed - a new branch of the facility has opened and become active overnight, giving you new resources and places to investigate, should you so choose. There's also a new channel on the television, though whether it's an improvement over the last one is questionable.

Otherwise, though, things have mostly settled into normalcy again, or at close to normal as you can find in this place. How long that peace will last, though... that's becoming increasingly uncertain, moving forward.

[Hm. It takes a bit of finagling, but she manages to kneel down so she can get a better look. Can she see anything without sticking her hand right in there?]

[ Yep! It looks like you've got two things in here: A small black metal box and a piece of paper. ]

[She squints a little, turning it in her hand.] ...yeah, I see the hole for it now. Guess if the legs go there, these should go here? [She props up one of the side panels of the nightstand and holds the other panel nearby in a position that should allow the legs to be on the bottom, where they belong.]

[Oooh boy. She'll grab the paper first, then the box.]

A legend from your world, then. That makes as much sense as anything. What does it do?

[ Mira reaches over, to give her an extra set of hands and hold where Nira might be having trouble. ]

It won't hurt to try, right? That seems right to me, anyway.

Miss Rhea, do you hate commoners?

[Rabble, rabble...true, Rhea had limited that only to mercenaries, but it's the kind of language that makes you sound so high and mighty. are you on a high horse rhea]

He's the guardian of the mountains and caves, and fights back against humans who would misuse those wild places. Of course, he's also one of the Swords of Justice, who fight back against dangers to the world at large.

I suppose. I've simply seen enough of zombies in my time. [Technically it was just once, but once was enough.]

I'm grateful to hear that. I'm not going to be proselytizing about the Swords to you, either.

[The answer is simple and... sincere. She knows why it was asked.]

Both as a woman and as archbishop, I cannot say that I do. [But someone who causes trouble? Someone who would end up causing more death among the lower classes than the ones they hate so much? Rhea dislikes that sort of person.] There are many that I know that are not only commoners but who do not follow the teachings of Seiros. I do not hate them at all.

[ Alright! The box is pretty simple, no ornate designs - just a simple yellow keyhole.

The paper is... a little different.

AUTOMATIC TRANSCRIPTION OF VOICE MEMO, DATE AND TIME [REDACTED]

Subject β has officially passed away, [REDACTED] had no effect on her anyway, we're moving on. I'd send flowers to the family or something, but they'll just have to forgive me for not reaching out between realities! It's regrettable we could not put her abilities to use, but I find myself loathe to forgive [REDACTED] in my lab.

In a more promising turn, it looks like we will NOT be burying Subject Γ any time soon, subject is recovering adequately and has been more than receptive to treatment. Proceed as planned, sending subject off for further processing tomorrow.

Two of our operatives brought in the final energy sources we should need to put the device on for extended periods of time, so that we won't have to continue individually labeling the people and corpses that happen to fall out of it during testing. I'll have to process them, of course, but I always relish a chance to use a machine that works without complaining to me. Now we just have to get that damn facility finished.

Note to self: tell [REDACTED] he's going to need to do SOMETHING about the windows in there.

[That's an easy cover story that Alice doesn't have to put energy into, so sure. For all intents and purposes, she is on a diet.]

Well, a rock could be used as a weapon. Actually, come to think of it, so could a coconut.

Yeah. I think we should assemble the basic frame first, either way. I've figured out which parts should make that up, at least. [She gestures to a few panels that can be assembled into a vague boxlike shape, grabbing the screws as well.] I think we should be using the largest screws here.

Even a little progress is still progress.

[ She gives Nira a tiny smile. ]

I'll hold the pieces in place, if you want to screw them in?

Hm...well, I won't argue that you have a fair point. We might be able to make something useful on the kiln in the arts room, if we experiment around with it a bit. No doubt we can make something that can be used as a rope in the sewing room, so you wouldn't have to braid your sheets together in the fitness room. And the woodshop...well, there's no shortage of tools in there, it's true.

[ She presses the bottom of her foot against the front of the stall and leans back a bit, with a finger to her chin...but she doesn't seem quite so enthused at the opportunity. Sure, those things could be nice to use for supplies, but, on the flipside...

Well, maybe that's just her being paranoid. In any event... ]

Hopefully we can use them to come up with things that the Professor wouldn't expect us to use to our advantage. After all, I kind of doubt he would willingly give us all of the tools we need to get out on his own like that...but you're right that we should use all of the means at our disposal as best as we can.

[Nira's also heard about that, and she certainly acknowledges it's a potentially useful resource.]

You think those are likely to occur here?

[Okay, she'll put that box to the side for now, and flip over the piece of paper to see what's on the back.]

But here she is, regardless! And hey, a bow. She wonders to herself if it's Aela's, but before she can say anything her attention is immediately caught by the ocean jasper somewhere in this pile of loot. ]

[ If whatever they've done to their powers doesn't preclude that mindless beast taking form again, anyone as tiny as Della wouldn't stand a chance. She can't say she really cares about that, but to have it running wild around here would still be annoying at the very best.

She closes her fist on the gem, trying to feel for any sign of activity. This is a futile hope, of course, but she has probably spent a week or so keeping corrupted Gems inert while transporting them to the Beta Kindergarten, so at least she knows what to expect. ]

Is there anyone here who's not drowning in garbage? [ She's mostly saying this to herself as she ponders all of the table's contents, not Rin, because she's rude and can't manage a non-grunt hello, but at the sight of the VHS she looks up for a second to actually address her. ] Hey. Have you tried that already?

The hidden one in the room with the vending machine. It's the one we know least about. Doesn't even have a key card lock, so there's no way to open it from our side without forcing it.
