WEEK 3

Well, the tail end of Week 2 could have gone better. That's the first thing to note.

The second thing is... hang on, should it be Week 3 yet? You've all gone to sleep (or... not, in the case of anyone who doesn't), but when you wake up (and you do all wake up), the calendar and clock on your device informs you that it's Sunday. In-character, all characters explicitly have absolutely no memory of Saturday.

Your sense of time isn't the only thing that's changed - a new branch of the facility has opened and become active overnight, giving you new resources and places to investigate, should you so choose. There's also a new channel on the television, though whether it's an improvement over the last one is questionable.

Otherwise, though, things have mostly settled into normalcy again, or at close to normal as you can find in this place. How long that peace will last, though... that's becoming increasingly uncertain, moving forward.

[ Rin seems... surprisingly at ease with Anna's reaction, so it's probably not hard to figure out who the either is referring to. ]

It's been the gods this, the gods that since before I got here. It's a bit of a pain, isn't it?

[ Rin snorts at that. ]

I can't remember having a good experience with the clergy, probably... Ever. At least having a place like this should help quarantine the ones here.

I'll agree that the priest seems to like to make a nuisance of himself, and I can't get a handle on Rhea, either.

[mouflon]

You don't even know the half of it. [ Rin's tone is always a little sharp, but with the mention of the priest, it takes on a particularly dry quality. ] Though, honestly, Kotomine is almost worse when all he does is loom around looking ominous.

Is it his aim to infuriate people just by existing around them?

[mouflon]

Who knows? It sure felt that way during the Holy Grail War, but I have no idea what he does in his time off. Do you think someone like that has hobbies?

Wait, he's from your world? My condolences.

More or less. My world, but not my time. Either way, you can say that I have... prior experience with him.

Imagine if your GRANBLEM had a supervisor, and it was that.

It's GRANBELM, not -- [Right, priorities.] So he's some sort of impartial overseer?

[mouflon]

[ ...I'm so sorry Jisu my brain has been parsing it as "Gran(d Em)blem" this entire time.

He's supposed to be, and I guess in a way he is. Being creepy to everyone equally is impartial, right? [ ugh ]

[You know, that would actually make more sense. I apologize myself.]

I suppose. Some people just make it their job to be infuriating. One of my disciples was the same, before she decided to run off.

Has he... You know, done anything that you're aware of? As the overseer, there were a lot of restrictions placed on him. I have no idea if he's any different when he's free to just do whatever he wants.

[ And not knowing makes her a little nervous, honestly. ]

Just stood around being infuriating while not technically doing anything wrong. Like standing in your way or acting like nothing's wrong, and smirking constantly. I suppose he hasn't done anything. What sort of restrictions?

[mouflon]

...No, that sounds about right.

[ Just... looming and being smug... ]

For the record, the Kotomine I've met was a copy created by the Moon Cell, so this is technically my first time meeting the guy in person. Still, it was a pretty perfect replica, other than some behavioral restraints that were programmed into it. You know, the kind of stuff you'd expect for his role—he wasn't allowed to interfere in anyone's favor unless there was rule-breaking going on, or do anything to deliberately hurt a human. Things like that.

I see. So your computer copied real people to fill certain roles?

[mouflon]

Basically. If you want to create a convincing simulacrum, it's a lot easier to base it off of an existing person than to build a human being from scratch, right?

My turn. When you said one of your disciples, what exactly did you mean? You seem a little young to have students.

[ yeah and you're a little young to be a terrorist hacker, Rin, do not throw stones here ]

I'd taken a few girls at my school into an alliance. They're from less established families, but they were still participants in GRANBELM. So while I was the leader, they stayed at my home and followed my orders as long as they were active in the competition.

Hakamada Suishou is the one I mentioned. Flighty, annoying, but useful when she wanted to be. But the other day, before I came here, she decided to run off on me. It was as if she was a completely different person. Some people just hide who they are until they can strike for whatever they want from you.

[mouflon]

You can't seriously be surprised by that, can you? The way you told me, GRANBELM is a fight until there's only person left. Even if everything went exactly as you planned it, the lot of you would still have to clear each other out in the end, anyway.

[emberserker]

I know that! [Anna's face starts twitching, however.] I've cut my losses with that one anyway. Ernesta is the bigger problem right now. After her, the other three should be a piece of cake, unless one of them's hiding something else.

[mouflon]

[ Hmm. ]

Well, good luck with that. [ Either way, she's obviously already paid for that mistake, so there's no point in rubbing it in. ] Sounds like we were both getting pretty close to the end, before all this.

Of course. Why would the Professor want anything but to frustrate us by taking us just before we were about to succeed?

[mouflon]

Anything to make sure this is the most unbearable vacation of our lives.

[ Just to make the deal he's offering that little bit more appealing. ]
