WEEK 3

Well, the tail end of Week 2 could have gone better. That's the first thing to note.

The second thing is... hang on, should it be Week 3 yet? You've all gone to sleep (or... not, in the case of anyone who doesn't), but when you wake up (and you do all wake up), the calendar and clock on your device informs you that it's Sunday. In-character, all characters explicitly have absolutely no memory of Saturday.

Your sense of time isn't the only thing that's changed - a new branch of the facility has opened and become active overnight, giving you new resources and places to investigate, should you so choose. There's also a new channel on the television, though whether it's an improvement over the last one is questionable.

Otherwise, though, things have mostly settled into normalcy again, or at close to normal as you can find in this place. How long that peace will last, though... that's becoming increasingly uncertain, moving forward.

She does not, in fact, say that. It is a choice.

Well, at least you've gotten something good out of this... sudden renovation.

[archboxer]

A dedicated room is quite... pleasant, yes, but it has not changed our situation.

Naturally. Why would he go to the trouble of adding another wing on overnight? ...or over a lost day, apparently.

To add variation to his experiment.

I really don't think any of it's all that scientific. He just adds and changes things after a little while when he gets bored, not after he's really proven anything.

[archboxer]

I agree, Anna, but if we ask that will be what he tells us.

What, did you try?

[archboxer]

I would never speak to that man if I had a choice.

[...That tone of voice would be more appropriator if Anna slapped her before asking. But she shakes her head before lightening up.]

No... it is simply a guess based on what we know.

Ugh, that's true enough. Besides, I'm sure he'll come up with that answer the next time he addresses us, even if nobody asks. He does like to keep an eye on things and then taunt us about them later.

His pride is insufferable... He likely could not do it by himself, either, yet he takes all the credit.

Right, the theory that all his power comes from his subordinates.

[somewhere, an old businesswoman sneezes before directing a bunch of cultists and orphans to reanimate some dinosaurs.]

Either that or the people he works for.

[archboxer]

Either way, one person could not do this alone. No matter how rich or how powerful they are... it is simply hubris for them to think otherwise.

You spoke earlier of letting one person have all the power. Do you think it would truly turn out that badly?

[archboxer]

Yes. If you will allow me... such a thing already happened in the past of Fodlan. It turned out poorly.

...I see. So that's why you find it hard to fathom elsewhere.

[archboxer]

Yes. The Goddess granted the power of crests to humanity--strength and magical power that comes from the person's blood--as well as great weapons. Over the years, one man rose above the rest... Nemesis; the king of liberation, as his subjects called him. He possessed the greatest Crest and weapon of them all yet that was not enough. It never could be enough. It decades of war and mindless destruction to finally overthrow him.

So he made a grab for what power he didn't have on top of what he did. And what happened after that?

[archboxer]

He was slain by Saint Seiros.

[emberserker]

I see. It did sound like your religion was key to the culture where you are; I suppose that would do it.

[archboxer]

Led by the Goddess she stopped the Fell King and led to the unification of Fodlan. The church was founded not long after. So... yes.

[emberserker]

...Well, I've things to do. I'm sure you're happy to do as you will in here as well, so I'll leave you to that.
