Well, the tail end of Week 2 could have gone better. That's the first thing to note.

The second thing is... hang on, should it be Week 3 yet? You've all gone to sleep (or... not, in the case of anyone who doesn't), but when you wake up (and you do all wake up), the calendar and clock on your device informs you that it's Sunday. In-character, all characters explicitly have absolutely no memory of Saturday.

Your sense of time isn't the only thing that's changed - a new branch of the facility has opened and become active overnight, giving you new resources and places to investigate, should you so choose. There's also a new channel on the television, though whether it's an improvement over the last one is questionable.

Otherwise, though, things have mostly settled into normalcy again, or at close to normal as you can find in this place. How long that peace will last, though... that's becoming increasingly uncertain, moving forward.

So far the "perks" have included a no-expenses paid trip to the Flatlands--on foot--and a lovely iron bangle I can't remove. Just what I always wanted.

What, really? You really do need to renegotiate your contract, then. I mean, she wants someone specializing in less-than-legal activities, so she can't be after something other people would look kindly on, can she?

Stealing back family heirlooms that were stolen from her, basically. But I'm not really in a position to negotiate.

[He holds his hand clear of his cloak, for once. Yippee, a shackle! The hottest item in sneaky thief couture.]

I say no, I don't get this off.

[ Hm... She guesses that reason will get her at least a little sympathy, but more importantly— ]

Does it do something other than just sit there? It's inconvenient, but it doesn't look like it hinders you too much.

Anyone who sees it will know I'm a thief. A short-sighted, stupid thief. You can imagine that doesn't do much for my career. Or my life expectancy.

[Also, it got stuck inside the flap of the vending machine...]

Okay, I get it. Some sort of cultural thing where you come from.

Still, maybe if you just ask her nicely? She does like you, if her writing is to be believed.

[ That last bit is. Dry. ]

Doubt her butler would let her make such a rash mistake. The trap was clearly his idea. He's the one who got this on me in the first place, too. [He shakes the shackle a bit.] He's good. Uncannily so.

I'm not surprised. When you're rich, you can afford to hire someone like that. Still, it sounds like you're not getting anything good out of the arrangement. Damn.

[ She guesses that's the difference between willingly hiring yourself out as a mercenary and getting bamboozled into it! ]

Because I'm not. All I want is to get back, finish the job, and take my leave. In the best case scenario, I'll never have to see either of them again.

Guess that goes for the worst case, too.

...Well, yeah, when you put it that way. I'd tell you to keep your chin up, but...

[ Rin isn't one for useless optimism—just being too stubborn to even think about defeat. ]

One thing at a time, either way. Hopefully, the stone I did find is around here somewhere. Wouldn't want to explain how some scholar from another realm robbed her of her inheritance. Again.

Huh. I guess that would be something to worry about... What's it look like?

If you find it, I'll gladly make a trade. I've come across quite a lot of value here, and the dragonstones don't look like much to a normal buyer.

Oh? Happy to hear it. I'll gladly keep an eye out for you, but that doesn't mean I'm a charity.

[ By which she means she would have handed it over it for free, until he mentioned having things of value to trade for it. ]
