WEEK 3

Well, the tail end of Week 2 could have gone better. That's the first thing to note.

The second thing is... hang on, should it be Week 3 yet? You've all gone to sleep (or... not, in the case of anyone who doesn't), but when you wake up (and you do all wake up), the calendar and clock on your device informs you that it's Sunday. In-character, all characters explicitly have absolutely no memory of Saturday.

Your sense of time isn't the only thing that's changed - a new branch of the facility has opened and become active overnight, giving you new resources and places to investigate, should you so choose. There's also a new channel on the television, though whether it's an improvement over the last one is questionable.

Otherwise, though, things have mostly settled into normalcy again, or at close to normal as you can find in this place. How long that peace will last, though... that's becoming increasingly uncertain, moving forward.

My employers were...weird guys, to put it gently. All of them were these old European guys that were really into viruses and their capabilities. They were trying to make the world better, I guess, but they were all...kind of strange about it. I was actually in the process of quitting when I was brought here - I closed out the contract I'd been working on, and was about to turn in my notice.

Talk about your cruddy timing... We get outta here and they start hounding you, there's probably some kind of...worker's rights thingy you can invoke, because they do not sound like the kinda people to work for.

...I'd say I've dealt with worse, but I really haven't. I've been working for them since I was fifteen.

That long? That's...more than half your life.

We started really young. That friend of mine was only a couple of years older than me.

[He shrugs a bit.]

I never really had a lot in common with people my age back then, so I didn't mind too much.

It's just a long time to be doing one thing.

Did you meet your wife at your job? Since you two work in the same field.

Yeah, I did. She and I were assigned to the same project, and we hit it off pretty well. She's overseeing the current facility with me, actually.

Love in the workplace... Sounds nice.

No wonder you trust her to- I mean, trusting someone you're married to, that sounds pretty basic, but- if you've worked together for so long, on such an even level, then you'd get to know what that person can do in a whole new way.

Don't get me wrong, we've had our share of problems, but I'm pretty sure every relationship does. We're making it work, anyway.

...It sounds nice, genuinely. I've never really had a devoted relationship like that, so...finding someone who shares your passions and...gets you? It'd be nice.

I mean... If I'm going to be entirely honest, I don't know if we'd still be married if it weren't for Sherry? That's not to say I don't love her or anything, we're just not the best at the whole marriage thing. We're probably more like friends that happen to be raising a kid.

Not like that's a bad thing, I guess. Just different.

That sounds fine to me. Like I said, marriage sounds nice, but...I don't have any practical experience with it. Whatever you need to do, you know?

Yeah. I kind of miss having her here - not that I'd want her to deal with all of this, because wow, no, but more because it'd just be good having someone I'm used to working with around to bounce ideas off of.

...You could try writing to her. Even if there's not someone to talk back, it could get you in the right mindset.

...I guess I could.

[He shrugs a bit, though.]

I'll figure something out. I usually do.

Keep that confidence up. We're probably gonna need it.

Confidence is one of those things I've never found myself lacking. Don't worry about that.

You know... I know it's absolutely not the same, but I've got some experience with insanity puzzles too. So, even if it's a big nil like [ she waves the device about a bit ] right now, I'd be glad to be a...sounding board, if nothing else.
