Well, the tail end of Week 2 could have gone better. That's the first thing to note.

The second thing is... hang on, should it be Week 3 yet? You've all gone to sleep (or... not, in the case of anyone who doesn't), but when you wake up (and you do all wake up), the calendar and clock on your device informs you that it's Sunday. In-character, all characters explicitly have absolutely no memory of Saturday.

Your sense of time isn't the only thing that's changed - a new branch of the facility has opened and become active overnight, giving you new resources and places to investigate, should you so choose. There's also a new channel on the television, though whether it's an improvement over the last one is questionable.

Otherwise, though, things have mostly settled into normalcy again, or at close to normal as you can find in this place. How long that peace will last, though... that's becoming increasingly uncertain, moving forward.

...So. What inspired this burst of creativity? Or...do I really have to ask?

I'm usually kind of a mess when I'm staring down stuff like this morning. It's nothing I can't work out of my system, but sometimes I get weird. It happens sometimes.

[...This is...likely not something he should know about himself, or something he should express so casually, but it happens.]

[ It sure isn't, but that's something to think about later, perhaps. ]

I don't think anyone's really equipped to deal with...all that, so it's not a big...thing. Honestly, I was about to do the same. [ She waves the flute idly. ] Keeping your hands occupied is...better than the alternative.

[He's quiet for a moment at that, though. Thinking, really.]

You don't have to answer if you don't want to, but have you ever seen people die before coming here? Or is this entire thing your first time?

[ Della seems openly surprised at the question, but maybe she shouldn't be. She looks away for a moment before confirming: ]

It's not completely new. When you travel with the world's greatest explorer... Well, things don't always go as planned, let me put it that way. Never anyone I knew, really. Still, it... It never really seemed real. Maybe I was just naive, maybe I was...too self-centered, but in the twenty years I spent getting into all kinds of world wide trouble, it never felt as personal as it does now.

No, it makes sense. It's easier when it's someone you don't know, someone you haven't talked to almost every day for weeks. Maybe it's not right, I don't know, but I don't think it's self-centered.

I mean. I was naive and self-centered. Don't get me wrong there. [ She snorts and starts listing on her four-fingered hand. ] And reckless. And...young. That kind of age where you think whatever happens, you won't die, you know? You're invincible. Nothing could possibly happen, 'cause...you're you. Nothing can stop you.

[ At some point, she stops looking at Birkin or the terrifying wood amalgam, just kind of starts to stare at her hand as if she doesn't quite comprehend it. ]

[He's quiet for a moment at that.]

...Yeah. Yeah, I...

[...Give him a moment.]

...Anyway. We're going to figure this stuff out, you know? I want to try to make sure as few people die here as possible.

[ That brings her back. And it's like she hasn't quite realized just what she said, or- or maybe that she started to drift there. With a blink of her eyes, she's focused again. ]

Oh. Oh, yeah, of course! [ It would sound forced, on most other people. ] We'll figure all this out, and... Oh, it'd be nice to avoid another day like today.

[It's not that he doesn't get it, or that he thinks it's weird. It's just...]

Definitely. I don't think anyone's going to try to go after his assistant again after today, at least. Not while knowing about...all of that.

[ To that, Della shrugs. It doesn't seem to bother her at all. ]

Weird is weird. I don't mind. Besides, I still haven't tried to make this flute into...something, haven't decided yet.

...If you want more materials, I have three of those stupid IKEA nightstands that you're welcome to.

[ Suddenly on her feet. ]

Hell yeah! That's a good use of my time, making that useless thing work better! Screw you, IKEA!

[ no one in her family has the temperament to put those together. ]
