WEEK 3

Well, the tail end of Week 2 could have gone better. That's the first thing to note.

The second thing is... hang on, should it be Week 3 yet? You've all gone to sleep (or... not, in the case of anyone who doesn't), but when you wake up (and you do all wake up), the calendar and clock on your device informs you that it's Sunday. In-character, all characters explicitly have absolutely no memory of Saturday.

Your sense of time isn't the only thing that's changed - a new branch of the facility has opened and become active overnight, giving you new resources and places to investigate, should you so choose. There's also a new channel on the television, though whether it's an improvement over the last one is questionable.

Otherwise, though, things have mostly settled into normalcy again, or at close to normal as you can find in this place. How long that peace will last, though... that's becoming increasingly uncertain, moving forward.

[ Jasper knows why the people who admire her consider her valuable. None of their values are Della's values, as this conversation has made abundantly clear, and she's given her no reason to like anything else. She's probably just using it as another lead-in to her endless pitch about how they need to come together. ]

No, I wasn't-- never mind, not important.

[ The question just didn't seem to hit the most important part of what she said, and... Honestly, it's a bit out of left field. Her brow furrows in concentration and in the end, Della comes to a simple answer. ]

Because I like spending time with you. Simple as that. You're...spirited, and dedicated... I guess I could see us being friends.

[hardnosed]

[ That gives her some pause, because, you know, it's weird and unexpected! She can't deny that she's dedicated. She also can't comprehend what about her dedication would inspire such a ridiculous statement. ]

You're too optimistic for someone so small.

[nothingcanstop]

I don't see what size has to do with optimism. [ She shrugs, lightly. ] It's just who I am.

[hardnosed]

Right now, everyone here is a potential combatant, and they're all bigger than you.

[ Menacing, or scolding? Her tone is hard to read. ]

And it's only going to get worse. You can't just — decide you like someone and then just go with it.

[nothingcanstop]

I've faced a lot of things bigger than me. And I haven't died yet.

[ She says this casually, calmly. ]

And who says I can't? Most people have something good to offer. I'd rather look for that, before thinking otherwise. [ The Professor is an exception but you know. ]

[hardnosed]

[ As if reading her brackets, Jasper immediately pivots to: ]

Can you say that about the Professor? Can you say it about the people pulling his strings?

[ damn, i thought alice was the clairvoyant one ]

No, but...he's shown explicit reason to distrust him. The whole [ gestures around ] kidnapping thing, threatening thing.

[hardnosed]

And now we're all a part of that thing. Trust is something that's earned, not something you show up with and choose to lose.

Alright, I understand that. But, if I refuse to keep my mind open, I might turn away someone who I'd regret not knowing. One horrible, pretty rotten piece of crap doesn't mean everyone is like that.

[hardnosed]

[ sounds fake as fuck but OKAY!! ]

Whatever. [ She heads to the door, and then, unnecessarily given how she apparently is too cool for school and has no friends, adds a warning. ] If you decide to keep that thing, put her in a separate room. And if she's with you, and you see her start to glow or hover — just run. I'll take care of it.

[ With others, Della would tease a little, but. She's understanding Jasper's a bit no-nonsense. Still, she smiles, light and easy. ]
