WEEK 5

That's three murders now - and this last trial got more than slightly out of hand. It looks like you might be in for another tough week... or at least, maybe that's just the refusal of this place to change too much. You lose Saturday again, but maybe six-day weeks are starting to feel normal by now. Who knows? The cycle of day and night continues apace, changing so little.

Speaking of change, though, there's a new area to look through, the biggest and most complex yet. And the end of one wing of the facility, from the looks of it - though you can probably guess where more areas might start to open up.

And speaking of opening up (segues!), this week if you're out particularly late, you might sometimes see Angel out and about! So hey, maybe change is on the horizon.

Just gotta hope it's a change for the better, don't you?

Looks like a deformed Bastodion, but I guess you'd know better what they're supposed to look like...

Guessing that's another Pokemon?

[ Dang, this just happens a lot, doesn't it? ]

Yeah. Their faceplates are even larger than this, plus they have way more spikes and horns. They're pretty tough too, being part Steel-type and all.

From how you're speaking in present tense, I'm guessing they still just...kind of walk around out there, too, huh?

Hmm...I guess you can say that? They were extinct for a while until fossil revival technology caught up, but they do have a steady breeding population by now.

Fossil revival...? Like...some Jurassic Lark thing?

[ladygeryon]

...sorry, that name's not familiar to me at all. But yeah, technology's advanced enough that scientists can do stuff like revive Pokemon with just the small bit of DNA from their fossils.

...I think it's closer to cloning than reviving, actually, since they mostly act similar to newborn baby Pokemon when revived. And from what psychics say they don't actually have any memories of the ancient past.

Ohhh, cloning! Cloning I'm a bit...more familiar with...sorta... Just not extinct creatures.

Huh, really? There's actually kind of a stigma against the use of the word "cloning" after some lab had an incident with trying to clone a Legendary or something like that. Probably why all the fossil labs use "revival" instead now.

Oh, it's not normal, don't get me wrong. Just know a few crackpots- oh wait, that's the normal-ish one a few scientists who've been a little loose with their experimental caution.

Yeah, they can be like that sometimes... [A pause, as her face falls as if remembering something negative.] ...do they ever inflict their experiments on unwilling or unaware victims?

[nothingcanstop]

Ohhh-hoho, no! Nooo, nothing like that, that's not...a thing, he just experiments on himself.

[ladygeryon]

[Still worrying, but in a different way.] He hasn't inflicted any...irreversible effects on himself, has he?

[nothingcanstop]

Oh, no. ...Probably? Probably not. Gyro's got...uh, a screw loose, but he's smart enough not to mess something up he can't fix.

Good for him. I've dealt with too many incidents with people not considering the reversibility of whatever they're messing with.

[Ranging from "Adam trying to jailbreak his little siblings' phones" to "literally using your child for DNA fusion experiments"]

There's some like that in every bunch, huh?

Yeah, though some of them are still okay people. Like my son Adam-he's pretty good with tech, he just gets too ambitious with his projects sometimes. But he always just wants to help his family out.

[nothingcanstop]

...Yeah, my youngest is a little like that. Not with technology, but with his schemes. He gets a little in over his head.

[Nira chuckles a little.] Pompeii and Helen are the ones with the schemes most of the time. I swear they have some kind of twin telepathy despite not being psychics.

You've got twins...? Heh, sounds like twins and...a couple more. I've got triplets, myself.

[ladygeryon]

Twins and five other kids, so far. Though I'm certainly not planning to go through another birth experience like that.

[She's been in multiple fights and she'd still rather go through any of those instead of childbirth again.]

Seven? [ give her a second. ] That's... Seven!

Yup! Neither Jake or I expected to have so many kids, but I can't imagine life without them now, either.

[nothingcanstop]

[ She's starting to come down from this, but. Wow!! ]

Jake... Your husband, I assume?

[ladygeryon]

Yeah...he used to be just a big goof-off when we were traveling together, but he's also quite sweet once you get to know him. Still a goof sometimes, but also a good, responsible dad.

[She is very much not worried about leaving the kids with him as a general principle.]
