WEEK 5

That's three murders now - and this last trial got more than slightly out of hand. It looks like you might be in for another tough week... or at least, maybe that's just the refusal of this place to change too much. You lose Saturday again, but maybe six-day weeks are starting to feel normal by now. Who knows? The cycle of day and night continues apace, changing so little.

Speaking of change, though, there's a new area to look through, the biggest and most complex yet. And the end of one wing of the facility, from the looks of it - though you can probably guess where more areas might start to open up.

And speaking of opening up (segues!), this week if you're out particularly late, you might sometimes see Angel out and about! So hey, maybe change is on the horizon.

Just gotta hope it's a change for the better, don't you?

[ If that's not enough to get him to stop from nodding off, would he be able to stop a certain someone from poking him? ]

[Just his name is enough to rouse him somewhat, but the second someone starts to approach, Therion snaps awake. His hand's on the hilt of a knife long before Vincent can get in range. A tense second passes.]

...Vincent.

[valentinus]

[ Just seeing him awake is enough to stop, though he'll curiously eye where the other's hand was, before allowing his gaze to land back on the man proper. ]

I assume you weren't intending on breaking that rule of his.

[bolderfell]

[He looks away, glowering at nothing, and finally releases his knife to pull at his scarf instead. Maybe that's answer enough.]

...Weird one, though. Isn't it?

[ It certainly was. Vincent wouldn't begrudge him for it either way. ]

It is. I had supposed that it was an arbitrary rule, but there might be something else to it.

[bolderfell]

From the looks of it, whoever's behind this has been setting things up for a long time. We can't afford to think anything's arbitrary.

[He says, covering a yawn with his scarf.]

[ He'll nod in agreement; the signs had all but been pointing in that direction. ]

Might even have something to do with a day's missing memories.

Exactly. It's too bad no one's tested it at all yet.

[Not that he's admitting that's what he was doing. Of course, not that he's admitting he might have just been dozing off like a dumbass, either. It's Schroedinger's Catnap.]

It's likely the threat of punishment that keeps them away.

[ Self-preservation instincts...though maybe that's called into question with murders happening every week. ]

Of course. Interesting that it's listed in the rules as a minor punishment, though, while the punishment for attacking staff is... well.

Unequal retribution.

[ Yeeeeeah he remembered how that went down. ]

It must be considered a slight inconvenience to him, but not by much in comparison.

Then again, the other rule infraction involves actual intent to harm someone who the Professor would consider valuable to this 'experiment'.

It also makes a point of saying the onsite staff mete out the punishment for sleeping out of our rooms. That's probably Angel, but... it's vague enough to make me wonder.

[valentinus]

[ ... ]

...Wonder if it was someone else who'd be meting out the punishment instead?

We still haven't seen the ones cleaning and maintaining this place. We always seem to be out cold when they do it.

[valentinus]

You're right. It'd make more sense for them to take care of it, if they're the ones in charge of maintenance.

[bolderfell]

Well, I'm awake now, so I guess the whole thing stays a mystery for another day.

[valentinus]

For now. Maybe someone else will feel inclined to test it before you have another incident like this.

[ More or less half-amused, really. ]

[ He'll smile a little. ]

[ Vincent wasn't too good at holding conversations for long, and for now he decided that he wanted to head off. The other man seemed perfectly capable of taking care of himself anyway. ]
