Good morning, passengers. Happy Sunday. Happy New Year.

Another week, another three gone in the case alone, not to mention Chloe earlier in the week. Even as you gain access to another floor, the ship by now must be starting to feel more empty than ever. It's been a long time by now, approaching two months.

Where do you think you'll be, in two months more time?

The clouds have begun to gather around the ship, this week.

No. I doubt I am any more appealing to them than a metal tank net or something of the like. Even if they did bite me, I doubt it would do serious damage.

Would you be able to repair yourself if they did somehow manage to do serious damage?

No, they are only fish and they appear to be well-fed. The negative reputation of sharks is almost entirely unearned.

I find them quite interesting. They are one of the oldest species still extant on Earth.

Oh, they're certainly interesting! We don't precisely have much of a means of studying them, given the monster problem whenever you leave shore.

The evolutionary niche they fill remains largely unchanged, and their habitat has allowed them to survive multiple extinction events that wiped out other forms of life.

Despite being well-fed, I believe they could still be dangerous for an injured person who fell in here. [Or was pushed. We all know he's not really that worried about freak aquarium accidents.]

Not at all. We can expand our knowledge, and over the centuries we have done so, but there is always more to be discovered.

I am sure it is intentional. The Captain likely hopes it will be used, though that seems far more dramatic than necessary.

Oh, it really is. There isn't really much of a point in it anyway besides horrifying everyone else.

He does, ja. Honestly, I have to wonder what he even does during the rest of the week... I doubt we're really all that entertaining for him most of the time.

I doubt he personally watches us on a regular basis. The footage is likely recorded, and anything potentially relevant flagged for later review.

[That's how he'd do it, anyway. Data doesn't get bored, and even he would not just sit and watch security cam footage of you guys all day long.]

Perhaps he has other ventures that require management.

He is in charge of whatever this Hyperion company is. It does seem like he'd be busy with other things.

Quite so. Even if he is working from here, it must keep him quite occupied, but he appears to have sufficient technology that he may simply leave the vessel entirely at times.

I had thought that impossible, but I suppose he could have something that allows him to leave without us noticing...

[Teleporter panels, magic, some kind of technology he can't even begin to imagine...]

But if he did have the means to simply leave as he wanted... why would he even bother coming back here? He could just watch everything from afar and never put himself at risk at all.

Perhaps he enjoys it. Even if he had to be on the ship for some part of this, there is no reason he must observe the executions from so close.

Understanding his motivations and behavior can only help us. We know that he is a successful capitalist, that he has no respect for human life - [like those aren't the same thing HEYOOOOOO] - and that he behaves with irreverence in most situations. Evidently, he also had a child or children at one point.

[Which, well, doesn't say much about him in Data's opinion. Anyone can do that.]

His reaction to Lorna's death and his mention of his child was quite unexpected... I think we should try to learn more about that, but I doubt it'll truly be helpful. He didn't seem bothered by any of the other deaths, after all.

Whatever his feelings on the matter, they did not stop him from bringing multiple children here to begin with.

No, certainly not. So it was likely something about the execution itself... Perhaps her willingness to allow it to happen to her instead of the spirit.

Possibly. Perhaps he could not understand her reasoning.
