Another week, another three gone in the case alone, not to mention Chloe earlier in the week. Even as you gain access to another floor, the ship by now must be starting to feel more empty than ever. It's been a long time by now, approaching two months.

Where do you think you'll be, in two months more time?

The clouds have begun to gather around the ship, this week.

[So. That sure is a motive. Yeager doesn't want to talk about it (or about anything, really) so for awhile you can find him in the snow room. This is where Plumeria used to go to be alone, so surely no one else comes in here. It's still cold in here, but aside from grabbing a jacket, he isn't really properly dressed for it. He's just sitting on one of the benches, studying his device like he's looking for... something. Eventually he just groans loudly and throws the device into a pile of snow, burying his face in his hands. Future Yeager is going to have to deal with finding his device, but for now he feels like being dramatic, leave him alone.

Eventually, he'll move on into the aquarium. He's seated in front of the shark tank, watching them swim around with a nearly-blank expression on his face. He came in here to investigate... but man, he really doesn't feel like trying to be useful today. You're welcome to join him - you may even notice his device sitting out nearby, with a picture of twin teenagers on display. You may even recognize them from his minigolf course!]

What comes after this, I wonder? Threatening the people we care about seems like a last-ditch effort, ja?

[Well isn't that nearly-blank expression pretty similar to something he saw last week, huh...the question says a lot about what's going on. Filbo doesn't even have to glance at the device to make an educated guess of who Jack is aiming for when it's about Yeager -- although he's thinking it'll be one instead of both, he got that part wrong]

It really does. It's...guaranteed something's gonna happen this week, but probably this is the worst he can get.

Not that it matters much, does it? I mean, that it's a last-ditch doesn't make it less horrible.

[It's a very effective threat, one that's unlikely to go untouched. Filbo may be completely unaffected by it, but he definitely is aware enough to know he's probably the exception around here]

Ja, you're right. It still is quite effective, after all.

[He leans back, looking up at the sharks and absently messing with his bangs for a moment before he sighs.]

Though at the very least, there isn't any definitive proof he can do what he says. As always, it requires us to trust the Captain.

[And we don't, so there really shouldn't be anything to worry about.]

...wouldn't make much sense for him to do that, you're right. I mean, maybe he does have the money, but he'd need to have the ship prepared in advance! Look at everything here, none of this can be done in five minutes or something. It'd take him ages to get anything ready. A-And even if he did, there's no way he can make two ships drive themselves, he'd get careless. It must be a bluff.

[Filbo believes the photos are the real deal, if only because everything about them do seem to indicate it was taken in the present, but those photos don't mean Jack would be able to set another murdercruise just because he wanted]

If he really wanted to be thorough, he'd give us proof that he already had them captive. These could have been taken at any point - and even if they were taken recently, that doesn't mean he'll be able to act on his threat.

[It probably isn't an empty threat, but that doesn't mean Jack would be successful at it.

There again are so many reasons to think he can't do what he says. What this is doing is give a lot more reason for everyone to go after him. Messing with us probably is fine for some people, but messing...with...loved ones must be crossing a line.

Ja, I think a lot of people are willing to deal with horrid things as long as they aren't aimed at a loved one.

[He's been kind of fine with being here most of the time, because this shit may as well happen to him. He probably deserves something, though maybe not exactly this. But inflicting this on Droite and Gauche...

At that, he inclines his head a bit before gesturing to the device. Go ahead, take a look.]

[Is it better or worse that it's both and not picking one over the other? He's not sure. He doesn't really want to consider it.

The picture of them seems to be taken while they were looking off in the distance at something else; Gauche seems remarkably relaxed for once, though she's still not smiling while her sister looks like she's plotting something with a smirk that looks damn near identical to Yeager's. They seem to be doing just fine here, at least.]

Still. It makes me wonder what's next?

I don't know. Frankly, I don't know how he can top this in terms of threats.

[He lifts his shoulders a bit before returning his attention to the sharks.]

I don't know, either. I'm sure there are things but...

[She stares at the sharks. It's...easier that way.]

It is. We have no way of knowing if he can actually do this... but that hardly matters when the threat alone will be enough.

[Because if they all assume he won't or can't an they're wrong...]

Mm. There's something strangely reassuring in that.

[Someone will act on it. Their loved ones are safe. For now.]

He might try it again next week, though.

He hasn't done repeat performances yet; it doesn't really seem like it would be all that entertaining for him. But that doesn't mean it's out of the question.

Honestly? [ Magica is too busy having a staring contest with a yellow tang in a different tank, apparently, to notice the device or anything else. ] Called it five weeks ago.

[ With Plumeria, after the first trial! Really, all things considered, a pretty good night. ]

It doesn't take a genius, which explains why it's only just occurred to him.

[That gets a laugh from him; that's exactly the sort of thing he wanted to hear, thanks Magica.]

It did take him quite a bit to consider starving us, didn't it? Oh dear...

Exactly. At a certain point, you start to wonder how much of the persona is just an act so we won't realize how inexperienced he really is.

... Not that it changes literally anything about this entire setup or the grim vengeance we'll eventually exact on him, of course. But if he wants us dead, which he clearly does, why wouldn't he just go for the jugular to begin with?

I've been wondering that too. Many of his offers rely on us trusting him to begin with - why bother with anything that could benefit us when he clearly wants us dead? Threats would be far more effective.

[Which is probably why we've had so many cases of possession or accidental murder.........]

It really does seem as though he's stumbling through this, trying desperately to find something that will work without going for the obvious ones initially.

God, it's like we've been watching someone throw their weight into a door labeled "pull" for a month and a half. [ She exhales in an irritated huff. ] I haven't killed anyone! Do you have any idea how bad at your job you have to be to accomplish that?

At least now he's managed to hit something. Problem is, it assumes you have loved ones, so!

Risotto's an assassin and I lead the assassin's guild back home, and neither of us have killed either. It's a bit ridiculous that we've reached this point...

[Accidental deaths, cases of possession, kills that happened in the moment instead of being planned out... man, the Captain really isn't looking great here, is he.]

He's found what's effective, so he'll keep finding ways to offer things that will benefit them or hurt them. Sometimes the easiest way to get people to break is to threaten their loved ones.

Yeah, him. It's... I wouldn't be so angry if it wasn't effective.

[A nod at the first part; that's certainly how he feels.]

Ja, they are. The green-haired one is Droite, her sister is Gauche. I took them in several years back; their orphanage has been struggling to make ends meet for awhile now, and they were eager to join me when I helped them out.

[That's the simplified version of the story, anyway. Somewhere in there his eyes strayed to the device, and it's a struggle to return his attention to the sharks.]

I don't know what I would do if anything happened to them.

[Weeks ago, his response to this would have been different. But weeks in a murdergame have a way of forcing you through your goddamn character development.]

Theodora and were taking care of these three orphans. Sweet kids, really needed a home with humans who would know how to help him.

The idea of people you care about getting hurt.....

Ja. It's an obvious threat to use against us, and someone will kill for it, but it certainly is a low blow that he waited until now for it.

[It was long enough to think that maybe he wouldn't go for it, and long enough for Yeager to get his goddamn character development.]
