Good morning, New Rapture. A new day is dawning.

It's now been a week since you were all captured. Perhaps you've already settled in. Perhaps you're already confident that you'll make it out of New Rapture alive. How serious about this could Mayor Fontaine possibly be, really?

While there still may not be much to do in your little hotel bubble, you've at least been granted a little more now - some kind of mysterious room and a sizeable library of all things. And in all the places you've looked so far, you've found valuable information, and even learned some of the story of New Rapture along the way.

Make sure to keep talking to the others! You want to keep those regain coins flowing, don't you?

[ The Undertaker walked in to see the chair bouncing off the glass... And lots of random things scattered about.

[At that, he goes very still.]

[He trails off a bit, like he's trying to figure out what he wants to say; he's hesitant in a way that he usually isn't.]

That...might be nice, yes.

Yes. The swamp gas will not kill us all today.

[ Very unclear what Nandor thinks powers an oven!! He passively accepts the nudge like the dead body he technically is, his face still grim and humorless. ]

Unfortunately, there are now much worse dangers looming on the horizon. Gonna be a rough week coming up. And... I must admit, I have not been completely honest with you all either. If we survive this, I think I am gonna have to 'fess up to some real dark shit.

[ Like, technically he hasn't lied to Zinda except by omission? Exclusively because he thought she was hot and not a bog standard human being? But in general! ]

... Oh, but do not trouble yourself about the Sire. He has a pretty good sense of humor about looking the way he does.

[ Thinking about it now, that does seem incredibly odd. ]

Well, I am not ruling it out if you try this shit a third time... but no. [ He says this without looking at Jonathan, which makes it easier: ] A lot of people would be quite sad if you were to stop occurring, Jonathan Harker — probably not the Undertaker or Seo Dawon, but many regardless. You must protect your soft little life for them.

[It was a fair question, though. Brett's lying stretched out on his back in the grass, staring up at the motion of the water above. Eyes still open, but it's dark enough that it's probably hard to tell.]

Don't worry, I won't fall asleep here. [He doesn't really want to sit up; he just cranes his neck back a little.] You're keeping an eye out?

[Jonathan is pulling the seaweed from his undergarments as he wads his way out of the water.]

I suppose it explains how the Mayor was able to lock me in that isolation chamber without any known exits. He likely has some sort of magical abilities to teleport people.

[Brett walks into the library, stops short, and just sort of...looks at all of this for a moment.]

Is this fox supposed to have plants on it?

Hm. Don't worry about it.

[Brett's just peeking in. He'd told himself already that he wouldn't spend the night here watching, and he...well, he ought to stick to that. It's tempting to wallow, but it's better if you don't. He knows that.]

You probably shouldn't stay here too late. Don't want to fall asleep.

[ ... The seaweed thing is slightly amusing. You got him grinning. ]

Either that or some teleportation device. He did mention something about technology being indistinguishable from magic when we all first met him, remember?

[ His voice is tight in a way it wasn't before, if not overtly emotional. ]

Are you saying you are not? Because really, that is just saying you have no friends, which is quite sad for you.

My father would prefer that I'm kept a secret; he seems to hate me. So if I have any official duties, I certainly don't know what they are. Participate in the war against Hoshido, I suppose. Take the throne if everyone else dies. I was fourth in line before the war.

[He sighs, defeated.]

I suppose this experiment has proved fruitless. I promise to take care of myself from now on.

[Watch as he does another stupid thing in a couple of days.]

Oi! [ The Undertaker is right here, dude! ] I'd have you know, I'd also hate to see someone like Harker "stop occuring," as you put it!

You could say that. [ Yeah, you could say that! Because that is exactly what he's doing! ] It is in all of our interest that nobody commences a slumber outside of the designated areas, and Gaius has stated that he will take the library, so.

... We have not actually spoken before this, have we. It is... Brett? Brent?

[The staring continues a couple seconds more, and then Obi simultaneously throws his arm over his face and starts laughing.]

Sorry—haha, sorry, I’m not laughing at you, honest. Haaa…

[Obi gets hold of himself soon enough. He even allows himself to look towards the glass, to pick out a head of red hair from among the crowd.]

It’s just… Master and My Lady have said much the same thing to me. I don’t know how it can be happening again.

I’ll do everything I can to protect that trust. You’ve got my word on that.

[ Hodaka returns the hug, fervently, desperately. This is the sort of thing that would be frowned on, because he’s a boy and he’s in high school, and he has to present a certain face to the world. Before Hina, he can’t remember the last time someone hugged him. So he holds on and he holds on tight, trying to listen and really hear what Forest has to say. ]

[ That’s all he can manage, at the moment. ]

[ Wow, thanks for being blunt. But he can see what made you think that. ]

Oh, about that... [ How does he explain. ] I didn't see anyone I was too worried about in there. Either he kidnapped the wrong bloke to unsettle me or he couldn't find the person I would kill to protect...

[ He doesn't wanna explain his hostage, but that does sound bad doesn't it? He quickly tacks on further explanation. ] Young Earl Phantomhive surrounds himself with dangerous people, you see. Staff and friends. If Fontaine wanted to get at him, he'd have to go through them.

[ Also, Ciel is like... 13. This isn't the murdergame for 13 year olds. ]

[ Honestly even if it's not the same dungeons, it's nice that someone else knows of them. ]

Oh? What are the dungeons you're familiar with like?

[Zinda isn’t sure what to think about the whole swamp gas comment, but it makes her laugh, so it doesn’t hurt.

She nudges his sad Nandor corpse with her boot one more time, then sits down on the ground by him, allowing him a polite amount of distance as she follows his gaze upward.]

That’s good at least. I wouldn’ wanna insult your pops, even if he looks like that.

It might be easier if you start fessin’ up now. I don’t intend on dying. And I’ve seen some pretty dark shit myself.

I think it's far more likely that someone would make a move first. I for one, am pretty patient.
