Week 2
Good morning, New Rapture. A new day is dawning.
It's now been a week since you were all captured. Perhaps you've already settled in. Perhaps you're already confident that you'll make it out of New Rapture alive. How serious about this could Mayor Fontaine possibly be, really?
While there still may not be much to do in your little hotel bubble, you've at least been granted a little more now - some kind of mysterious room and a sizeable library of all things. And in all the places you've looked so far, you've found valuable information, and even learned some of the story of New Rapture along the way.
Make sure to keep talking to the others! You want to keep those regain coins flowing, don't you?

SUNDAY
PUNISHMENT
And Mayor Fontaine expects you to follow them. He doesn't ask for much, really.
To most of you, the morning comes with an announcement. ]
Good morning, New Rapture. Listen up. This is a reminder to please sleep in your own goddamn rooms. Don't be like Dracula's Killer Friend. The library is no place to catch Zs.
[ And, in fact, it's apparent to Suite 1 especially that Jonathan Harker is not with you.
But that doesn't explain where he is, does it?
Jonathan, however, is going to find out upon waking exactly what happened to Jonathan, on account of being Jonathan. It was a wild and crazy late night in the new library, he got overwhelmed. This is reasonable. But then he decided not to try making it back to his room before falling asleep, and that seems to have been a mistake.
Jonathan wakes up, and there are a few things to note about his surroundings. Firstly, he's in a large, completely empty room that he's never seen before. There's a small bathroom space in the corner and, notably? No doors of any kind. Just one wall along the south side that appears to be a thick glass window, with the meeting room on the other side. Several screens in the meeting room begin to count down the seconds from 05:59:59.
Mayor Fontaine's voice comes over the intercom, just to this room. ]
Next time bring the books back up the elevator before you pass out and we won't have this problem.
[ It is then replaced by a low hum, not enough to drown noises out, but enough to make sleeping through the next six hours next to impossible.
But hey, at least anyone in the Meeting Room can see and talk to him. ]
[ ooc: point of order! if your character wants to interact with jonathan, there'll be a space for it! use this comment itself just to react to the punishment/announcement. ]

investigation!
The new floor is the perfect opportunity to spend the day exploring, and you might spot him in the meeting room standing in front of the mirror like he's about to give a presentation. Honestly, he looks like he belongs here. And apparently, it's where Jonathan belongs too. He'll be giving his suite mate a very friendly wave and Hello! This is probably the company Jonathan wanted, right? Later he can be found in the library skimming and investigating the books, though it's very much that and not proper reading. Given the cassettes found last week, he's pretty sure there are more discoveries to be had in New Rapture.
Finally late at night, and we're talking night owl territory so from midnight onward, no matter where you are outside the suites, you might get the feeling you're being followed. The dimmed lights probably don't help. Regardless of whether your reaction is to confront, or run away from your pursuer, a second later a pair of bright red eyes pop out from behind the corner, or other object in the vicinity. ]

Gay Baby Jail time
He wastes no time banging on the glass with his fist, practically screaming for help. Sure, he had experienced this situation before, but the prior time only showed him how horrifying it was to be locked up in a single room.
Eventually he somewhat calms down as he hopes that he will be let out once the six hours are up, but he finds himself curled up next to the giant glass pane, moping to himself about his situation.
Yeah he might need some company.]

Each morning, he wakes up and meets Joy in the Suite 4 common area for some stretches. After, he makes himself breakfast at the kitchenette—he still hasn't gotten used to the fancier foods in the restaurant, and he likes more to make his own. Something about it feels more freeing. If you're just waking up—or even passing Suite 4—feel free to catch the smells of steamed rice from the rice cooker, simmering miso soup, or the scintillating Tamagoyaki (or, rolled omelette). He's not cooking all of these at once, of course. In fact, after having his own meal, he seems to be...cooking periodically throughout the day? Huh!
There's more to the boy than cooking, however. He spends some time in the library, a relatively quiet place, and seems to be looking through the stacks for...something. To no avail, however. Oh well.
You can also catch him in the...restaurant? But he's not eating himself. No, it seems there's been something added to the menu, and it's certainly not for people! It's...cat food. Like, really fucking fancy cat food. Oh well. Rain, who's happily licking up every bite, sure seems to appreciate it!! ]
I can't believe he actually put it on here...
[ ...Okay, but Hodaka please get your cat off the table. ]

As usual, you'll find her taking breakfast in the restaurant early in the morning – or well, attempting to take breakfast. She doesn't have any sort of an appetite for food right now but she'd ended up here out of habit and now she's just picking at this poor omelette that's going to go to waste.
When she eventually gives up on breakfast, she wanders up to the newly opened Floor 2 to look around - it isn't much, but anywhere new after seven days of staring at the same four walls is a breath of... fresher air. She spends a bit of time in the meeting room mostly just to keep Jonathan company before heading over to the library. It's a little overwhelming, honestly – the Count had shelves of books walling his office but she'd known since she was a child that his personal library was largely for show. She's never seen a library this big or so many books in one place.
She wonders if Cain and Oscar had access to a library like this at the Academy – then reminds herself that she really does not want to think too hard about Cain right now.
So, back to distracting herself it is. If you happen to come across Mielle in the library, she'll be wandering a little aimlessly – but when she realizes she's not alone, she breaks into a small smile. ]
Would you mind giving me a recommendation? There's so many to choose from, I can't quite decide where to start.

HOUSE MEETING (locked to suite 1)
House meeting! House meeting! Everyone, it is time! Come out, please!
[ Anyone who does not respond to the initial call is getting their door insistently rapped on until they come out. Anyone with the good sense not to be present in the suite itself? Yeah, you better believe Nandor is going to track them down and then attempt to shepherd them back into the common area. He's got a little bottle in one hand that makes an annoying jangly noise when he shakes it, which he is doing with uncalled-for intensity to try and get people's attention.
However long it takes to corral all the members of suite 1 together, Nandor addresses the group as though doing so was the easiest thing in the world and everyone is super happy to be here! The man is as presentable as he's ever been, once again wearing the fancy black outfit and having clearly put a great deal of effort into re-taming his hair. He beams at everyone briefly before setting the bottle down on the counter, pulling a notebook out of his pocket, and starting to speak. It seems like he's checking a list of names? ]
And now we are all here? Yes, great, fantastic. [ still flipping absently through the notebook... ] Good evening. Thank you all for attending this, the inaugural meeting of our suite in New Rapture. I would like to say a few words before we open the floor for discussion.
[ He phrases this like there's absolutely any room for argument and then just keeps on talking-- ]
Firstly... congratulations to all of us, on our first week of successful cohabitation! As you all can see, none of us have been murdered, which is nice. [ With a look at Jonathan: ] However, as we know, there are certain protocols put in place by the Mayor Fontaine which carry with them certain penalties. Some of us -- and I am not naming names -- have recently been punished for flouting some of those protocols. Now, we do not know how merciful he will be in the case of future violations, so I would strongly encourage that we not test them any further. Can we all agree on that?

MONDAY

..........]
This will be a slow process, won't it?
[Books
Aiba jumps up at the higher shelves, looking at the titles. Every time she finds a book she likes, she pulls it out and throws it onto the floor and begins browsing through it, quickly scanning the contents. A very fast reader, Aiba is! This is useful! The books she chooses are varied. There's a book about something called the Wadjet System, which she recognized as something from her world, talking about artificial intelligence and networks. An encyclopedia of Pokemon, that probably comes from Adaman's world, opened at the section about Bug-types because of course it is. A copy of Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, just because some classic literature is always nice. A book about animal care because there are two pets among them now and she can't say she ever looked up much about animal care ever before. Like six or seven books more.
When you come across the area she's at, you'll find almost a dozen books lying on the floor, wide open and seemingly abandoned. She's currently on one of the shelves, out of sight. Perhaps someone should clean up these books.
Reading
Later, though, she takes a fictional book to a table, ready to settle with a nice bout of reading. What book is she reading? Well, that's up to you, really -- what should she be reading? Feel free to name whatever you want to name, yup.
No matter what it is, it's wide open on the table, and Aiba's human form appears after a moment, blinking into existence sitting on the chair in front of the book whenever you look aside for a moment. Ah, hello!]
Do you think reading this qualifies as research of some kind? I tend to use that word as an excuse sometimes, but then again, sometimes I wonder if it's too weak of an excuse.
[Anything can be justified as 'research', although it's a stretch when it's about fiction novels and stuff. What can she say, sometimes an AI just craves stuff no matter the quality or what it is about. Maybe indulging into all sorts of things is how she can make so many references in canon, who knows]

YARD SARD!
Thankfully, the not-margarine is good for cooking, so you'll find in the kitchen cooking up some snacks around noon. Hope you liked those bone shaped biscuits from the party, because that's all he knows how to cook.
Later on, after the biscuits have cooled, he puts them all in a large measuring cup from the kitchen and takes them to the library... Along with some other stuff he didn't want cluttering his room.
Why? Because he's setting up a yard sale of course! He's taken a table for himself, laying out an assortment of items in front of him before setting the makeshift biscuit container to the side. If he hears someone coming, he'll call out to them. ]
Items for trade! Come get them now before I throw them all out!
[ After he's gotten rid of everything one way or another, you'll see him reading in the library. He's holding the book a normal distance away from him... A bit odd for him, but he does mutter an explanation to himself. ]
They really ought to print more books like this. The format's so convenient...
[ Ah. Seems he found a mystery from the large print section. ]

Piglet! [The pig snuffles.] They were keeping you in there? How rude.
[For the rest of the day, the pig can be found following Joy around. It sort of makes sense when they're in the restaurant and Joy's eating lunch while the pig eats corned beef hash. It makes less sense when she's in the library looking through books and the pig is snuffling around on the ground. Is there something up with the carpet, maybe? Or is the pig just being... a pig?
Who knows. Eventually she settles down with a book, the pig at her feet.]

Good morning. Breakfast is ready, so I hope you're hungry. It's the most important meal of the day, after all.
[For most of the day after that, you can find Mafuyu in the library. What she's doing there depends on the time of day.
In the morning and most of the afternoon, she has a collection of different books on different subjects. History, geography, biology-- Judging by the topics and how intently she's reading them, it would seem she's studying. Anyone tell this girl she's not gonna get a pop quiz later?
She leaves a few times, briefly, to eat and such, before she's back there again. And she's there late. Perhaps inadvisable, considering what happened with Jonathan, but she doesn't seem worried about falling asleep.
This time, she's hidden away a bit more into a corner. The books she had earlier in the day have all been swapped out for ones on music, be it history or just music theory. And... is she humming something?]

He can be found later in the library doing something that is...pretty explicitly not reading. He's stacked a bunch of books into pillars and placed the coconut and lemons from the vending machine on top of each of them. In one hand he holds a nerf gun, and in the other he idly swings a rosary. It's clear he's doing some kind of target practice, but evidenced by the foam darts on the floor, it's not going particularly well.]

Either way, Adaman doesn't have much, but he does have some more silver coins--off he goes to the vending machine to deposit them, and while some of the items are certainly interesting, something else tumbles out that sees Adaman startle, before his shouts can likely be heard from the distance--]
What?! They truly put you in there as well?! I--are you hurt? Are you going to be alright?!
[If one goes to take a look at who he's talking to, well--Adaman can be seen fretting over a leafy fox, who seems to take the fretting in stride as he lets out an amused noise, before making to hop on Adaman's shoulder and nuzzle his cheek a little bit. That, if nothing else, gets Adaman to ease a little bit in relief.]
Oh...oh, thank you, Almighty Sinnoh, for seeing us reunited...
[he's totally not tearing up a teensy bit. you're dreaming. he's a strong guy, okay!!
At any rate, though, Adaman is absolutely checking out the library; reading isn't exactly something he does for pleasure, but with Leafeon in tow, he seems to be...pointlessly rummaging through the library and leaving a mess. Leafeon is most assuredly judging him from where the little leafy fox tries to get everything into an organized little pile there, as his trainer tries to investigate and fails because this is not an investigation top level.
...He will eventually settle down to read, though, and Leafeon can definitely be seen wandering around the place. Leafeon is wild after all, and doesn't always stay around his trainer, but he'll stay in the same room at least? He seems to be playing with a little Nisse, while Adaman has a small figure in one of his other hands.]

anyway, once that's done with that and breakfast, he's going to hit up the library! He's seen Shakespeare mentioned in the profiles so when he notices some on the shelves, he picks them out to give them a shot... but uh... hm. Hm? Hm. Like. Sure. Julius Caesar and The Tempest and the Henriad seem interesting, but even though he's making an attempt...]
...this is a fool's errand.
[...it's not even the language, he just hates trying to read plays. They Are Meant To Be Performed, Damn It. After he gives up on Shakespeare, he picks up a chunky non-fiction history of... hmm... the Roman Empire and settles down with that, because he knows where he's at with nonfiction. The fact that it's from a world he isn't actually from is actually pretty neat!
Anyway, after all that, he's finally going to hit up the vending machine and look over his haul. Like, sure, there's some weird shit, but he's actually closely inspecting something kind of unexpected: the penguin. He's kind of muttering about it...]
...hm. Yes, I think she might like this, actually.

Later on... is that music coming from the meeting room? It absolutely is! And if you peek in, you can see the meeting table and chairs pushed to one side of the room, and Floyd in the empty space, dancing! He's facing the giant mirror and just grooving along to the music on his radio!
He's not doing any specific routine, but he is dancing up a storm! And he's pretty good too!

TUESDAY
MOTIVE: Remember, you are not alone.
Please make your way to the meeting room on Floor 2 in twenty minutes. Attendance is mandatory. Thank you, citizens.
[ Upon arrival into the room, the screen walls are lit with dozens of images of Mayor Fontaine’s silhouette. Eleanor stands at the ready in the corner, gaze slightly vacant as she looks out at the lot of you. The glass wall has been set back to a mirror, reflecting the citizens of New Rapture and the screens as all twenty-five file in.
And when the last citizen has entered, the door closes behind them. ]
I think we may have gotten off on the wrong foot, citizens. See, I haven’t been sure how to handle you, and I think that may have confused you. You’re all awfully complacent, y’see. Relaxing in the garden. Sleeping in the library. I’ve never been a family man, but I’m afraid I may have spoiled the child, as it were. So here’s the rod.
I thought of a lot of ways to do this. Give Eleanor some envelopes to hand out, give you some recordings, some personal items… but plagiarism ain’t the way to play this. No expense spared for my honored guests. Eleanor, dear, if you’d be so kind.
[ Eleanor nods and withdraws a small remote from… some pocket on her diving outfit, and hits a button. It’s then that your motive becomes clear.
The glass of the mirror shifts, becoming clear, and the room beyond is distinctly different from before. Standing around inside are 25 other people - specially selected to be the ones you’d hate most to see here. They’re milling about, talking amongst each other, and… will not react to anything on this side of the glass. ]
So, here’s your test to see if you’ve got what it takes to make it in the big city. Kill someone by Friday and I let them all go home free. No harm, no foul. But if you don’t, well… I’ll open one of the other hotels up across the city for ‘em juuuust like this one, if you catch my drift.
[ The captives remain visible, and will for the whole week! Enjoy! If you have any questions oocly, please direct them to the mods on plurk! ]

It must not be healthy, but he spends as much time as possible in the meeting room, watching. As Hina interacts with the other hostages, as Hina rubs her arms to get herself warm, as Hina lives, as Hina breathes.
He wanted to know if she was okay. He wanted to see her again...but not like this. Not at all like this.
Most of the time he spends just sitting and watching, either in a chair or right up at the glass. He has to get something to eat. He has to feed Rain, who he left in his room out of worry about that mandatory attendance. He has to do anything other than this.
But he can't. He's stuck, unable to take his eyes off her, as if the moment he does, she'll disappear. ]

He'll be out a little while later, though, sitting in the lobby in one of the small sitting areas; he's claimed one of the little coffee tables, and on it is...well, that sure is a random assortment of crap out there with him. He's toying with the crystal ball in particular right now, just turning it over in his hands and looking very intently at it, but that doesn't stop him from greeting anyone who approaches him with the usual smile and gentle look in his eyes.]
If you're interested in anything I have, you're welcome to it. I don't have much use for this, I'm afraid...
[...Either he bounces back really fast or he's very good at being like this for some reason. Either way, he seems in an almost unnaturally calm mood, especially given his reaction to the motive.
That night, however, will find him standing near the glass in the meeting room, just...looking in, a very intent look on his face that seems far more in line with the situation. He'll drop it as soon as he's joined by anyone else, though, shifting seamlessly into something far more delicate and pleasant.]
Oh... Did you want to spend some time? I'm terribly sorry, I can go if you would prefer.

After a little while of this, Rossiu finally gives up and leaves. He stops by the vending machine to deposit some coins... and the results are not exactly kind today. He picks up the knife with a stormy expression.]
This is intentional, isn't it?
[He's not going to stab someone, who do you think he is???? Anyway if you want your stuff, now would be a good time to pick it up!
After that, he spends the rest of the day in his room. Feel free to stop on by if you want?? But once night falls, his curiosity finally gets the better of him and he returns to the meeting room. Rossiu stands before the glass, hands folded behind him as he watches the hostages. Though he initially appears pretty composed, it's obvious after a moment that he's trembling, just barely keeping that composure intact, even though the hostages can't see the reaction anyway.]

Well, he's going back to Suite 4, Room D for a while--a long while, at that, though the door isn't closed at all. Leafeon is just...kind of going to go off on his own to the garden, for the time being, and Adaman is going to patch up the bleeding little bite he's sustained. But truly, all he can think about is his sister, the woman who helped raise him being trapped in there, and it's just...
It's too much to think about. The ringing in his ears just won't stop, and he's just in no state to respond to much at all. Hisui's harsh, but Mai has always been strong, always, and the thought of losing her...
Well. Later on in the evening, Adaman himself will be going to the meeting room, and he seems...inclined to stay there, for a while. Leafeon isn't content to join him in this, but he finds himself staring at all of these people late at night and just...
Well, if he sees you, he'll turn over with a tired smile. It doesn't quite reach his exhausted eyes.]
Ah--I beg your pardon. I can leave if you wish to be alone.
[...Of course, Adaman resolves himself a little bit very late at night, and it's there that he seems content to be patrolling--sure, it looks way more like pacing in such a state, but he's never been content to sit and waste time. He can't. He knows he can't.]

WEDNESDAY

What she did was to attempt to get in contact with him. Date's brain has a receptor for her transmissions, and she attempted to do that, for many many many hours. Even when she was hiding while somebody else was in the room, she continued. Never once tried to talk to anybody else who was here.
By Wednesday, once it was clear there was going to be no way to get in touch with Date, Aiba changed plans: try to break him out. And to do that, she also would have to forgo her secrecy. Reaching Date ranked far higher in her list of priorities now, for so many reasons. Hiding away her real form...it didn't seem so important anymore. More than anything she wanted to reach him.
Even though she still is sure Date being in this underwater city is a mostly positive development, given he's reasonably competent and this would dramatically heighten the possibility of working with him to solve this situation, she also has many reasons to want him out of that room right away...or at least, have him within reach.
Meeting Room
When you enter the meeting room you'll find it in some havoc. There are objects strewn here. Are there usually objects strewn here? Probably not -- Aiba brought them herself, and began throwing them at the glass. Nobody on the other side of the glass has reacted at all to what she's doing.
Anyone coming will find a chair being lifted by one of its legs, by a weird thing standing on the floor. Even though the chair is many times larger than her, she still holds it aloft with no issues. The thing looks at whoever entered and then throws the chair at the glass, the chair bouncing and falling to the floor.

THURSDAY

An undertaker's job is never truly done, is it?
The continued lack of proper supplies isn't the only thing haunting our usually giddy mortician as he spends time in the garden, picking out flowers and weaving them together. A flower crown isn't the most Orthodox gift, but there won't be enough material for a funeral wreath...
He seems eerily quiet, lost in thought. Maybe that one person in there concerned him more than he thought? Hard to say.
But he does get a wild idea and decide to go asking around for supplies: ]
Excuse me, but do you perchance have access to a sewing kit or a shovel? I may need to borrow those soon.
[ At no point did the Undertaker care about what people thought. He will be needed, he's sure.
Later that night, before the residents of suite 2 should be coming back to bed, the Undertaker holes up in his room and locks the door. He tries to keep quiet, but you might hear him talking indistinctly. Is he talking to someone? Phoning Fontaine, perhaps? There's a giggle and a click, and then the sound of him setting something on a desk. ]
Huh. Taping over it was easier than I thought. I wonder where they make these things...
[ ... Hm. Hopefully no one overheard him doing things. At least he doesn't leave the suite for the rest of the evening. ]
