Good morning, New Rapture. A new day is dawning.

It's now been a week since you were all captured. Perhaps you've already settled in. Perhaps you're already confident that you'll make it out of New Rapture alive. How serious about this could Mayor Fontaine possibly be, really?

While there still may not be much to do in your little hotel bubble, you've at least been granted a little more now - some kind of mysterious room and a sizeable library of all things. And in all the places you've looked so far, you've found valuable information, and even learned some of the story of New Rapture along the way.

Make sure to keep talking to the others! You want to keep those regain coins flowing, don't you?

I appreciate the warning, but there's no need to worry. I'll only be here a little bit longer, and I certainly won't be falling asleep here.

Very well. I only wish to avoid any other... incidents like the one yesterday.

...though, admittedly, perhaps I should not be that concerned.

I've always been good at taking care of myself. And... we know the risks, now.

If nothing else, I'm a little grateful to Harker-san. Now we know what will happen if we fall asleep elsewhere.

I suppose I cannot say I do not feel the same, though I am glad he did not come to any serious harm. If it had been anything but a minor infraction, I doubt he would have been so fortunate.

It's good to know the baseline for even this. Even for a minor case, our Mayor could have easily been less kind.

Now we know the limits. I suppose if he started punishing us too harshly too quickly, he would soon run out of people for this...

Precisely. I am not quite sure if the intent was kindness so much as a desire to have us turn on each other and do his work for him.

[...wait, uh. this is a probably civilian teen girl.

...eh it's a harsh truth they're in this together it's probably best for them all to get used to this.]

I mean relatively, of course. Any kindness offered by our captor is already negated by the fact that we're here.

At best it's simply a matter of keeping things going for his own sake. At worst, it's active manipulation.

[She seems okay with the harsh truth, actually.]

I'm well aware of our position.

So long as that is the case. I will admit, I am concerned he will begin putting pressure on us at some point if we continue to cooperate instead of turning on each other. If that does happen, do try to be cautious.

I think in a situation like this... continued caution is good no matter what. Even if things don't escalate, that may give us just as much cause to worry.

You'll look after yourself as well, yes, van Baelsar-san?

I intend to, yes. I am not unused to dangerous situations, though this is perhaps unique in its setup. It is… tempting to become complacent, despite everything.

You're pretty cool under pressure, huh? I've never encountered any situation like this myself. The most danger I'm usually in is making sure I look both ways before crossing the street on the way to school.

This... doesn't entirely feel real, I suppose.

It is a skill one is required to learn in order to survive in the military. I can imagine it might be more difficult to deal with for civilians such as yourself, but you seem to be handling it decently enough.

I'm doing my best, in any case. Knowing we have people who have experienced difficult situations before does help, though.

It makes me feel a little bit more at ease.

I am glad of that. I swear to do what I can to get our group out of this situation, though I cannot promise it will be easy or... uncomplicated.
