Good morning, New Rapture. A new day is dawning.

It's now been a week since you were all captured. Perhaps you've already settled in. Perhaps you're already confident that you'll make it out of New Rapture alive. How serious about this could Mayor Fontaine possibly be, really?

While there still may not be much to do in your little hotel bubble, you've at least been granted a little more now - some kind of mysterious room and a sizeable library of all things. And in all the places you've looked so far, you've found valuable information, and even learned some of the story of New Rapture along the way.

Make sure to keep talking to the others! You want to keep those regain coins flowing, don't you?

Hodaka's frown deepens to a scowl as Seo Dawon goes on, answering his question but in the most annoying way possible. But then, that— ]

...You don't? [ His eyes flick back to Hina. ] Why?

[ "In the most annoying way possible" is Seo Dawon's specialty ✨️. ]

Illusions are easy to do, not to mention transfiguration, or even homonculi.

[ His expression is almost vacant at this point, at odds with the usual smile and movements in the way he usually conducts himself. ]

But beyond that. If Lee-kyung-ah is actually on the other side of the glass...I would know. I would feel it, even as I am now. [ Just like during the announcement, the fingers on his right hand run across a mark of some kind on his left ring finger. ]

[ Hodaka doesn't like to think about that, the idea that Fontaine could have just...made a copy of her. But, more than that— ]

You'd...know? Like magic?

[buriedstar]

...yes. I'm a mage, remember?

[ ... ]

[withagun]

[ But… ]

If…Misfire can’t turn into a plane like normal…how do you know your magic’s working?

[buriedstar]

My active magic isn't. There's a difference.

[ A difference he evidently doesn't feel like explaining. His fingers tap tap against each other. ]

[withagun]

[ He looks slightly doubtful. ]

And...you're willing to really believe that? Without a shadow of a doubt?

[buriedstar]

I wouldn't be here if I didn't.

[ He's smiling now but it's empty, hollow. After a moment he waves his hand. ]

It doesn't really matter what I think, does it? It matters what everyone thinks.

[withagun]

[ ... ]

You think so...? [ Hodaka frowns and looks away from Seo Dawon, back to the hostages. His eyes drift over the food that's been brought. ] I guess. The majority. Or something.

In this case, just one. He asked for one death, right?

Just...what that one person...

[ All what he— ]

...I can't understand. I can't- why would anyone...do this?

[buriedstar]

I can think of a few reasons. Would hearing them really help?

[withagun]

[ ... ]

No. I don't think it would.

[buriedstar]

[ He smiles, letting more hollowness through than he normally would. It's the mood of this particular room where there's very little he can do to avoid the reminder of his current state of being, of his contract, and the lack of feeling he has along with those he can't control. ]

Well there you have it. The first thing you should is control yourself, and if you think you can't then build safeguards and fallbacks. [ He takes a breath. ]

It's less about being prepared and more about inevitability, Hodaka.

[ For a moment, Hodaka almost asks something.

Then, he decides better. He holds back. ]

You're being...nicer. It's strange.

[buriedstar]

[ Seo Dawon considers that for a moment. ]

There's a time for everything.

[ That's strange too. Ultimately, Hodaka doesn't understand. But...

Hesitantly, he takes some of the food Seo Dawon has brought. ]
