Good morning, New Rapture. A new day is dawning.

It's now been a week since you were all captured. Perhaps you've already settled in. Perhaps you're already confident that you'll make it out of New Rapture alive. How serious about this could Mayor Fontaine possibly be, really?

While there still may not be much to do in your little hotel bubble, you've at least been granted a little more now - some kind of mysterious room and a sizeable library of all things. And in all the places you've looked so far, you've found valuable information, and even learned some of the story of New Rapture along the way.

[ A far cry from the boy who stammered and mumbled on their first day, he almost distantly answers. ]

[Joy takes the ring off and grabs his hand, putting the ring in his palm.]

Hodaka's eyes drift down to the ring now in his hand. He looks then right back at Joy, eyes wide. ]

Neesan... How- did everything get like this? How'd it all get so- screwed up? I just... I never wanted...her to be...

[Joy closes Hodaka's fingers around the ring.]

Remember when you said I was wise? Here's some more of that wisdom: bad things feels like a lot in the moment but if people are right behind you, supporting you, then you can get through them and things will look different. Maybe not better, but different.

[ The moment his fingers curl around the ring, he grips it. Tight, until his muscles tense. ]

...How do I know...if the right people are there...?

[She swallows. This feels like a conversation that she's deeply unequipped for, but well. They're having it.]

It's hard. Sometimes, you'll feel like nobody understands you and it'll suck, but... [She covers his fist with her own hands.] Even if they don't understand you perfectly, if they're trying? You can try to meet them halfway.

[ He doesn't seem to know what to do with that. How to react. An intense but confused expression passes over his face, and his eyes slide from Joy to the captives. To Hina. ]

No, it—you're my dìdi so I'm your jiějiě. [A beat.] That's the same as neesan, but in Chinese.

I, uh, don't think I could say that... [ He tries to smile. It comes out as more of a grimace. He's glad he doesn't have to explain, though, that Joy got it. ]
