Week 2
Good morning, New Rapture. A new day is dawning.
It's now been a week since you were all captured. Perhaps you've already settled in. Perhaps you're already confident that you'll make it out of New Rapture alive. How serious about this could Mayor Fontaine possibly be, really?
While there still may not be much to do in your little hotel bubble, you've at least been granted a little more now - some kind of mysterious room and a sizeable library of all things. And in all the places you've looked so far, you've found valuable information, and even learned some of the story of New Rapture along the way.
Make sure to keep talking to the others! You want to keep those regain coins flowing, don't you?

[ ooc: Welcome to the second week of Unknown Seas Round 3! Please make sure to mark any investigation toplevels accordingly, and you can reach either Mayor Fontaine or Eleanor for conversations! ]

Why- do you do that?
[ ...It's a strange question. That's for sure. ] I mean- does... Praying, does it- help you?
no subject
Yes? [He says it like it's obvious, like he's...not sure how to respond, until he tries to school it back to some success.] I believe it does so; I believe in Almighty Sinnoh's power and will, to protect everyone and keep them safe. With their blessing and hard work on my own part, it can be ensured.
[...]
Why do you ask?
cw: suicidal implications
…Hina-san prayed. [ He nods at her, the girl he’s staring at. ] She prayed for so many other people…and she…gave away part of herself every time. What she was praying to… It needed something in return. When she found out, she… She was still gonna…
[ ”Do you…want the rain to clear up?”
Why hadn’t he just said no? ]

It's much to take in; it's not something Adaman doesn't understand. He has always made an offering to Almighty Sinnoh; it comes with the territory, doesn't it? You give something and receive something in kind. A trade-off, an exchange, you give a little of yourself and see to it that people are protected and...you have to be willing to put their needs above yours. Adaman has always tried to live by that, but...]
...What was she praying for? Was she trying to protect someone?
[...]
It's not something I do not understand, all be told, but...don't tell me she was...?
[Adaman can't bring himself to finish that.]
no subject
...I stopped it.
No matter who else was gonna be unhappy... I couldn't let her. So, I stopped it.
[ It's simple as that. ]
It...was the sun. See. The weather...it's been really crazy, lately. It'd rain...unless Hina prayed for it. We didn't know. I...didn't know. Not 'til it was almost too late to change it.
no subject
...She was trying to keep you all safe. To keep the rain from...
[Sacrificing bits of herself to keep the rain away. To bring out the sun--Adaman had thought it might be simply metaphorical, but if she did not leave any sort of other offering, then she...
Adaman isn't sure how he feels. To know that there are gods out there, who would ask for so much. And yet...]
She shouldn't have had to do that. She looks so young, with so much time ahead of her--and you saved her from them. Didn't you?
cw: dissociation
It was...so stupid. Everyone knew. Or...it was obvious, the signs...were there, they just didn't wanna see. Or...didn't care to. Made excuses, pushed away what was there. It doesn't matter...if everyone dreams of the Sunshine Girl disappearing. As long as they can be happy...and pretend they don't know anything about it.
[ This is all...vaguely blank. His voice is low, unhappy. But there's not as much in the way of emoting, compared to what's been his normal state. ]
Hina-san didn't deserve that. Hina-san...isn't just someone who can be thrown away, discarded...and she deserved to know that.
no subject
Adaman isn't sure when his hands balled into fists, but well, they sure are now.]
...They just expected one girl to take on the weight of the world by herself. Just one girl, who would take on the world and disappear when her purpose was up. That's...
You're right. Hina absolutely deserved to know that. If they had just--if they could take some of the burden upon themselves, none of this would have been necessary, would it?
[Suddenly, he very much understands why Dislikes: the 100% sunshine girl job is on Hodaka's profile.]
no subject
In any case. For the first time, Hodaka looks away from Hina, mostly to stare in surprise at Adaman, again. This time, however— ]
You...believe me.
[ It's so soft and surprised. But so grateful. ]
no subject
Of course I do, my friend. Why would I not?
[It sounds pretty cut and dry and obvious to Adaman; the sky is blue, grass is green, Almighty Sinnoh is the ruler of time...
And Hina did not deserve to be a sacrifice. A simple fact.]
no subject
No one... Ah, Natsumi-san did, but— no one believed...or wanted to believe. It was easier to think I was just...a troublesome kid than...listen to me.
[ So many times he begged. He'd go with the police, if he could just help Hina. Please. ]
no subject
The circumstances, all of it, it reminds him of the boy who's been helping them so much. It gets Adaman's hand to move, to grip Hodaka's shoulder in solidarity.]
You're not troublesome at all, Hodaka. Do not let anyone tell you otherwise.
[...]
It is their fault for being so closed-minded. For not seeing what was being done to her. If they had simply done something, anything to take the burden off of her--this could have been prevented. They should have believed in you; you've been nothing but an honest young man, and to think that anyone would think otherwise infuriates me.
no subject
It's...not fair. How come just...one person has t' suffer for everyone else...? It was just gonna...happen again. If it was- someone they cared about...
[ His voice shakes. And then he wipes his eyes. Because it's harder to keep watch, if they're blurred. ]
The whole time, she was so happy. Even...after she figured it out. She just...wanted to help. What kinda god...makes someone so kind...?
casually sneaks in a lil foreshadowing, as a treat
Don't misunderstand when I say this, but...I can understand where she might be coming from.
[Adaman's look goes back to Hina, as he says that. Mulling over how he wants to put this.]
When one devotes themselves--their whole selves, to other people? They want to help them no matter what. Be it to see the smiles upon their faces, to ensure that their way is safe, or even to protect them from whatever the world wishes. It doesn't matter about how they're put in harms way; if it means the survival of a greater whole, and those people are precious to them...well, it may not matter, the cost of it all. They want to see those around them prosper, live beautiful, wonderful lives. If they've a personal relationship with them, then it's all the more apparent, how much they will sacrifice to keep those around them safe.
In perhaps another world, another life...I could see her in a position like myself.
[Adaman closes his eyes.]
That the gods would inflict such a cruel fate upon someone so selfless...it is inexcusable. Hina deserves so much better--to spend her time with those who adore and care for her, for who she is.
