Week 2

Good morning, New Rapture. A new day is dawning.

It's now been a week since you were all captured. Perhaps you've already settled in. Perhaps you're already confident that you'll make it out of New Rapture alive. How serious about this could Mayor Fontaine possibly be, really?

While there still may not be much to do in your little hotel bubble, you've at least been granted a little more now - some kind of mysterious room and a sizeable library of all things. And in all the places you've looked so far, you've found valuable information, and even learned some of the story of New Rapture along the way.

Make sure to keep talking to the others! You want to keep those regain coins flowing, don't you?

SUNDAY | MONDAY | TUESDAY | WEDNESDAY | THURSDAY

[ ooc: Welcome to the second week of Unknown Seas Round 3! Please make sure to mark any investigation toplevels accordingly, and you can reach either Mayor Fontaine or Eleanor for conversations! ]

I was looking at books I remember from home, for the most part. I wanted to do some possible research about this place or even read some future books, but I wanted to start off with something familiar.

[He looks over at Brett.]

Might I ask what you brought?

It's just a novel. Frankenstein.

[Is it possible that Brett couldn't restrain himself from being nosy, tried to find Dracula, and went with the next best thing when he failed? Hey, don't worry about it!]

Have you heard of it? [how does the dark universe work]

[His eyes lighten up in familiarity.]

Oh yes, I've quite enjoyed reading this in the past. Quite a terrifying read, isn't it?

[Absolutely not the answer he expected! How DOES the dark universe work???]

Yeah, I'm enjoying it! I read it once in school, I think, but that was years ago. Do you want me to read a little out loud? I only just started, I can go back to the beginning.

[It's an absolute mystery.]

Oh, if you don't mind! It has been a long time since I've read the book

Sure, not a problem.

[He'll just sit back and start reading. Incidentally this is apparently the first I'm seeing of Frankenstein myself and oh my god that's a bit dense huh]

[That's 19th century literature babey! Shout out to the time I read Jekyll and Hyde as a 14 year old and could barely understand a word of it.

Jonathan however, is absolutely hooked on the storytelling, even if Brett struggles with it. He had heard that horror can be a comfort to those who have gone through horrors themselves, and he never quite got it until now. The dread felt a lot cozier when you know that you're not in any actual danger of it happening to you.

Once Brett finishes the first chapter Jonathan speaks up again.]

Have you ever read this story before? I am aware you are from the future so I am uncertain if it's still a popular read.

It's well-known, but I don't know how popular the original text is. I read it back in college. Adaptations are probably more popular - it's been made into a lot of movies and stuff like that.

Has anyone told you about movies?
