Week 2
Good morning, New Rapture. A new day is dawning.
It's now been a week since you were all captured. Perhaps you've already settled in. Perhaps you're already confident that you'll make it out of New Rapture alive. How serious about this could Mayor Fontaine possibly be, really?
While there still may not be much to do in your little hotel bubble, you've at least been granted a little more now - some kind of mysterious room and a sizeable library of all things. And in all the places you've looked so far, you've found valuable information, and even learned some of the story of New Rapture along the way.
Make sure to keep talking to the others! You want to keep those regain coins flowing, don't you?

Investigation
Quite early in the morning, before lights up, he's investigating the library, and by that I mean he's specifically climbed up the shelves to look for vents and passages up top. Just in case no one else has gotten to those yet. Even if they have, his lady is in danger. Obi has to try to get to her.
Some noon-ish hour finds him at the gym, restless and desperate for an outlet. He examines one of the treadmills with squinty caution, but finally steps on and, in that everything's fucked, might as well spirit, presses various buttons until something happens.]
Oh!
[As one of the pre-programmed courses engages, the moving surface starts rolling back beneath him. Surprised, Obi wobbles but adjusts, and eventually blows air out from puffed cheeks, apparently disappointed with the speed as he plods slowly along.]
Well, this is borING--!
[He has no idea what the warning beeps mean, so when the treadmill (to him) suddenly picks up speed, he yelps and leaps off, wrapping all four limbs like a monkey around the railing to one side and making the machine rock dangerously.]
...I didn't do it! I didn't do anything! I think this doohickey's possessed!
[Save him.
Finally, in the afternoon, he (or Gaius, or somebody) gathers the interested parties for self-defense for total n00bs in... the library again, actually. He's pushed furniture around to make some room, but it's still not ideal. On the other hand, they're close to the meeting room, for. You know. Whoever needs to be close.]
Oh-kay, guys. I'm not at my best, I know none of us are at our best, but we gotta do something or at least I'm gonna flip my lid. Now, I never had to teach this stuff to someone who's never done any fighting at all, so bear with me, yeah? I have pretty much no idea what I'm doing.
[With that encouraging intro, Obi uncrosses his arms, puts one hand on his hip and rubs the back of his head with the other, and ventures:]
So... show me how you throw a punch, I guess? We'll go from there.
self defense
Thankfully, she’s making an exception.]
No, no, Fish! Ya gotta show em how first, so they don’t break their thumbs.
no subject
[He waves both his hands to signal stop, stop!]
Whoops, okay, belay that order! Why don't we start with everyone showing me just how you make a fist, okay?
no subject
He is, however, a little confused why they're bothering to ask him how to make a fist. After all, it's not a hard task for anyone who can close their hand.]
Like this?
[He makes a fist and
Yeah his thumb is absolutely on the inside of his fist. And it's clear that he doesn't see anything wrong with this scenario.]
no subject
[He casually takes Jonathan's fist, uncurls his fingers to free his thumb, and then demonstrates proper punchin' form to him before lifting his fist for the rest of the class to see.]
Thumb on the outside, okay? Like this!
no subject
Oh, I had no idea the thumb mattered so much! Does tucking my thumb in truly hurt like that?

Pretend I’m not here. I just don’t wanna miss the casualties.

self-defense
[Brett demonstrates a punch! It's...you know, a fairly average punch from a guy who's plainly never really punched anybody.]
no subject
[Better than Jonathan.]
Here, try putting your feet more like this. [He demonstrates.] Now, instead of punching from the chest or shoulder, imagine the force coming all the way up from the ground through your legs and drive it through your fist, like this.
[Obi puts up his dukes and shows off a straight punch, then does it again more slowly. A-stance, slightly bent knees, all that jazz.]
A lotta swordsmen get this wrong. The power really comes from your legs, not your arms.
no subject
Alright.
[Brett watches carefully and imitates the movements - he's precise and observant, at least, both qualities that make him a good student.]
Oh, you don't have to worry about me picking up the sword. I don't know if I could even use a gun, if I had one.
no subject
--What, like, a cannon? Yeah, those are kinda hard to manage unless you know what you're doing.

the library, after self-defense for noobs!
...livia might have but she'd probably murder anyone who didn't have the right form.
...
...anyway, even so, between how he'd feel about that even under less fraught circumstances and the hostage situation, he's feeling like he should be more involved, so he'll pop in when it seems like things are pretty much done with self-defense training.]
How did it go, then?
no subject
[It's a win!]

[we’re not asking undertaker to do infirmary stuff. we are absolutely not.]
no subject
Yeah, he's a good guy. Real sweet. And I'd never wanna get on the wrong side of a healer, so I did try to keep injuries to a minimum. ...Plus I made a bet with Misfire.
