Week 2

Good morning, New Rapture. A new day is dawning.

It's now been a week since you were all captured. Perhaps you've already settled in. Perhaps you're already confident that you'll make it out of New Rapture alive. How serious about this could Mayor Fontaine possibly be, really?

While there still may not be much to do in your little hotel bubble, you've at least been granted a little more now - some kind of mysterious room and a sizeable library of all things. And in all the places you've looked so far, you've found valuable information, and even learned some of the story of New Rapture along the way.

Make sure to keep talking to the others! You want to keep those regain coins flowing, don't you?

[Having now been given proof that her shit is in the vending machine, Joy can be found feeding coins into it and muttering under her breath when it doesn't give her her stuff. That is, until the last coin when a whole-ass pig drops out of the machine. It's not fully grown, but Joy lights up when she sees it.]

Piglet! [The pig snuffles.] They were keeping you in there? How rude.

[For the rest of the day, the pig can be found following Joy around. It sort of makes sense when they're in the restaurant and Joy's eating lunch while the pig eats corned beef hash. It makes less sense when she's in the library looking through books and the pig is snuffling around on the ground. Is there something up with the carpet, maybe? Or is the pig just being... a pig?

Who knows. Eventually she settles down with a book, the pig at her feet.]

[ He'll glance over at the pig that is at the woman's feet. ]

Emergency rations?

[ But then he will look back at the books he's slowly looking through with mostly disinterest. ]

[allatonce]

Absolutely not. [She brings a hand to her chest in mock offense.] Piglet is my friend. Aren't you?

[She looks down. The pig looks up at her and snorts.]

Piglet says yes.

[Truly unclear if she actually understands the pig, or she's just bullshitting.]

[ ...Oh my god.

Well, the inanity of it is so ridiculous and absurd it circles right back around to vaguely amusing. ]

Interesting. Where did this pig of yours come from? I hadn't thought our captor was feeling so generous.

[ Surely, it couldn't have come from that 'vending machine'. Then again, he doesn't know living beings can, for that matter. ]

Vending machine.

[She just says that with an air of "of course my pet pig came out of a vending machine." In her defense, that is absolutely not the weirdest thing she's ever seen.]

Or I guess if you want to be real technical, I bought him off a guy on Craigslist and then he ended up in the vending machine.

Odd that they'd keep a living thing in there.

[ But it is whatever. Technology has always been something that can be considered an enigma at times. Capable of many things that it shouldn't be. ]

...And this "Craigslist" is what?

[Oh my God, pig.

Misfire pretty much ignores Joy as he squats down to examine the hog. He holds a finger out, level with the snout, desperately holding back an impulse.]

I really want to poke it.

[It's some kind of way of asking for permission.]

[allatonce]

Piglet doesn't really bite, but I wouldn't poke hard.

[The pig comes over, sniffing curiously at Misfire's finger. This thing is fearless. Robot? Not the weirdest thing Piglet has experienced.]

[dullshooter]

[Misfire gently pokes that snout. It's like pressing a button, but the button's on a hog and the hog is really cute. It's absolutely delightful and he does it again.]

Piglet? Really? That's the best you came up with?

[Piglet sneezes the second time Misfire boops him.]

His name is actually Yǔxuān, but I thought it would be easier if I used his English name here.

[Like she's using her English name! See? Matching.]

[Okay, the sneeze, despite how cute the pig is, is kind of gross. He shakes his hand and holds back from any further booping.]

I see. [At least, he gets the general idea.] He’s a cute lil’ guy. Is there a secret farm in here, or did he pop out of the machine?

Vending Machine

Another prisoner of the vending machine freed. Is your friend unharmed?

[She really hopes so. A stay in the vending machine can't be healthy for any animal]

Are you okay, Piglet?

[She genuinely waits for the pig to respond. He sneezes, and Joy nods.]

He's fine.

[pairtner]

Did you...I am skeptic you interpreted your friend's sneezes correctly.

[What do you know, Aiba, what do you know]

[allatonce]

[Completely deadpan:]

I'm very in tune with animals. I've been one at least twice.

[pairtner]

Have you? How did that happen, exactly?

[Joy just what kind of canon are you from where this happened, if it really did?]

Whoa. We're gonna have a whole zoo here.

[ Rain continues to eat his fancy-ass cat food on a fancy-ass plate on the fancy-ass table, for the record. ]

For real. I wonder how many other animals are in there?

[Joy reaches over to hold her hand out for Rain to sniff. She's already introduced herself, but like. It's just polite to ask before petting a cat!]

Rain, Mr. Oliver's dog, now your pig... Ah, what's its name?

[ Rain sniffs and nuzzles. He's a friendly boy. ]

[Hello, kitty! Joy gently scritches him.]

His name is Yǔxuān, but I call him Piglet in English.

[As a fun translation note, "piglet" is just in English on account of she named the pig after the Winnie the Pooh character.]

[ A moment, as he stares. ]

That's...probably a good idea. I don't think I...could really figure that one out.

[It takes a sec for Joy to notice as she's looking through the books, but huh.]

[She gently pulls him away to inspect. What's she looking at, mods?]
