FIRST TRIAL
[ After a while, once all the appropriate clues have been found, Mayor Fontaine calls out again over the speakers. ]
Alright, citizens, pack it in quick and head to the back of the Hall of the Founders. You have business to take care of.
[ When they do reach the Bathysphere station, Eleanor is manning the controls, gaze quiet and even over the crowd. The hatch at the front of the strange elevator is open, and everyone is gestured inside. A series of small submerisbles are lined up, waiting to be ridden. ]
Just hop into the bathyspheres one or two at a time, and the system will get you where you need to go.
[ It's a long, cramped ride from here, but Fontaine's word is true. At least you can tune into the radio in the pod?
The bathyspheres take you down until even the few lights of Rapture are out of sight, down until lights of a different kind are visible - the reds and blues of bioluminescent sea creatures, a little too out of your way to make out what they are, blending to a strange sort of not-quite-purple as the bathysphere reaches its final destination: a glass dome built into the sea floor, about the size of an average house.
As one by one the bathyspheres arrive carrying the new citizenry of New Rapture, less natural lights than those of the creatures around you begin to click on in the dome. In the center, most of the space is taken up by a circle of podiums, each with an image of one of you engraved into it.
A projector of some kind kicks on, which combined with the lighting allows for the familiar silhouette of Mayor Fontaine at his chair to appear on the side of the dome, watching over you. ]
Time to do your best to figure out who killed the Diamond in the Rough. And do yourselves a favor: keep it interesting. I'm here if you have any burning inquiries.
[ And here it is.
Welcome to your first trial. ]

But as he stands behind his podium he speaks aloud, with purpose.]
I abstain from participating in this trial, for I already know who is responsible for this crime.
[He's shaking, but his voice is firm.]
The only criminal here is Fontaine. While it is likely that someone else pulled the trigger, they were coerced by this monster by threatening our loved ones. Any real judge would tell you that the only man truly at fault is the one who forced the murderer to kill.

body investigation report
Once he's gotten his position in the circle worked out (and he's yelled at Jonathan), there's only one thing left to do. Right? He seems surprisingly settled, all things considered, if emotionally vacant; he's saying the words with no feelings behind them, as though he hasn't really processed anything that's going on.
He's used to this. He's seen more than enough bodies on the battlefield to be used to this. He doesn't have time to feel anything about it; he has due diligence to perform. That due diligence doesn't involve healing anyone this time, but it does involve doing them some kind of justice all the same.]
I found Adaman in the garden, facedown in the shallow pool of water that can be found in there. I turned him over, but he seemed to have been deceased for some time, seeing as the body was cold. Aiba assisted me in investigating him. Brett, Misfire, and Jason were also in the room.
He sustained a wound to the back of his head - it had bled out quite a bit. It was difficult to tell if it was a piercing or blunt injury; it looked somewhere between one or the other. Not sharp enough to be explicitly piercing, but not as though it was solely a blunt force injury. It appeared that whatever hit him only did so once; there was no reason for me to think that he was struck multiple times. The wound was also clean, in that there was nothing foreign left in it.
[His words remain clinical the whole time; his expression seems to waver a little bit, but he manages to deeply breathe a bit and get that under control before he continues.]
His face was also massively bruised. Centered on the left cheek. It was dark in color, though nothing pierced the skin. It...looked as though someone punched him. Hard.
There was also, for some dreadful reason, a bite mark on the inside of his left forearm. [He raises his own arm and gestures toward it, making the location clear.] It appeared relatively clean in that nothing was...torn out, but it was clearly a mark made by a human.
[Okay. Okay, almost done...]
I'm a little...concerned, about his cause of death? I don't have much experience with this specific thing, but when I've seen it, it hasn't been a good sign - there was frothy discharge around his mouth, and some in the water. In my experience when that happens, it means there's fluid in the lungs, whether blood or water.
So despite the head wound, I...believe he may have drowned? Please correct me if this is unreasonable.

Rossiu has Adaman's room key with him in case anyone wants to look that over for any reason, but otherwise he has nothing else. Leafeon has been left in Adaman's room (though not locked in this time!!) because he thought it would be a terrible idea to bring a Pokémon to this.]
I investigated Adaman's room; room D in suite 4. [His former neighbor.] The door was locked and I found Leafeon inside. For those of you unfamiliar, Leafeon is a Pokémon and Adaman's partner. He was retrieved from the vending machine. Leafeon had been locked inside all night and had made a mess of the room in his worry for Adaman; other than that there wasn't anything immediately relevant in his room.
[He does have some letters to pass out after the trial, but those are not important right now and will have to wait.]
I spoke with Leafeon and was able to determine a bit more about what happened before Adaman left for the night. Adaman was very worried - both about his people at home, and all of us here. He paced about for some time before eventually saying a prayer and leaving - presumably to keep an eye out for us. He locked Leafeon in, likely as a precaution.
[This is not in bold because it was not a clue, it was an optional Leafeon investigation but it may still be important evidence!!]

restaurant evidence!
I was in the restaurant at the time the announcement happened, and I dunno how relevant it is, but. I found some fancy tea and some sorta rice dish sitting out? It was really cold, like it had been there for a while and whoever ordered it didn't really eat much of it.

CATHERD
After a little bit, he raises his voice a tad:]
Hey! Come on, everyone, let's try and focus. We need to get through this together, and we're only going to do that by working as a team and keeping our heads. Why don't we go over everything again, and try to get a picture in our heads? That'll help us see what we haven't looked at yet.
So everything we know is -
[Is he singing? He seems so normal about it, reading from his notepad like this is a regular thing.]
Adaman went out last night,
On a patrol all alone.
He left Leafeon behind, said his prayers,
and went out to do his best.
At some point in the night, someone ordered tea and rice and left it untouched in the restaurant. We don't know who that might have been, but I don't think it was Adaman. Sitting and eating's a strange thing to do, if you're out making a nightly round. Maybe someone was sitting there and saw that he was out.
[Even his speech has gone sort of rhythmic? Weird.]
Sometime around two or three in the morning, there was a struggle.
There was biting - someone bit Adaman in the arm,
and he got in a few hits of his own,
before the attacker punched him in the face, and knocked him back -
and he hit his head.
It's possible that the other party involved was also injured, at least enough to bruise. We still need to check for any signs of that. We might also consider the heights involved, if we're assuming they bit Adaman while his arm was around them. I'm a lot taller than him, for example, I know he couldn't have grabbed me that way.
The last thing Adaman could do,
Was fall and stumble in the pool...
[He ruffles some pages, letting that particular plaintive melody die off. Is there backing music to this? It's possible!]
After he died, the murderer went inside. They had blood on their hands, they'd killed a man, and honestly, it all seems unplanned. They went to the fifth and second floor, though the order's still unclear. They found the hostages were gone, and stood a moment there in thought. They left a handprint on the glass - maybe deciding what to do. Even if it wasn't their original intent, they still had a choice to make.
If they're to see their friend again,
It's going to be us or them...
Then they went back to the dorms, cleaned themselves up, and went to bed. They didn't bother cleaning the blood trails left behind, or picking up any other evidence. We aren't exactly dealing with a mastermind here. Why don't we start with the possible bruising and work from there?
[Yeah, he's gonna act like that entire musical/patter number did not happen. Let's move forward with the murder trial!]

Voting Time
There you have it. Pretty straightforward, but you still have to vote.
[ The surfaces of the podiums slide open, revealing a set of twenty-five buttons, each with the name and title of a citizen next to it. ]
Go on, neighborhood watch. Vote out who did this. Majority rules, one vote per podium.

EXECUTION - Is There Still Anything That Love Can Do?
Annnnnd big bang boom. You all hit the nail right on the head. Stormchaser is guilty. And according to the rules, well… you all went and figured out what happens for yourselves, so how about we just cut to the chase?
[ The room goes dark, the projector and the lights from the podium buttons both cutting out. Anyone near to or touching Hodaka (so… Forrest) will feel a slight whoosh of air as he vanishes, and the faint smell of something… metallic?
After a few long, quiet moments, the projector whirs back on, and this time… oh, there’s four projectors, actually, for each of the cardinal directions on the walls, projecting the same thing.
Hodaka stands alone, panicked, looking around himself as he stands on the roof of… some sort of building? With an old shrine gate in the background? It’s raining, and there’s wind picking up. Or… at least there is, for a moment.
At the other end of the roof, very suddenly, stands a girl who, well… you’re all actually familiar with this one, aren’t you? She’s been in the facility for half a week. Hard to forget a face when Hodaka spent so much time staring at it.
And Hodaka sees it too, so he doesn’t see that she only starts to smile when he looks at her. And he runs to her.
It’s a frantic, fearful run. He almost trips more than once, nearly slips on the rain-slicked surface of the roof. The rain stops, of course, when she appears. The sun emerges from the clouds above.
It’s a beautiful day.
But as he’s nearly reached her, as Hodaka and Hina are nearly reunited, something stops him in his tracks. It’s impossible to see exactly what it is from this distance, but something in her face flickers, just for a moment. His eyes widen…
And Hina, or whatever it is that looks like Hina, raises a pistol.
From this distance, the shot clean through Hodaka’s head isn’t particularly loud or even gory. It’s quick, it’s real, and then it’s over. Hodaka falls back to the ground, and that’s it.
Hodaka Morishima is dead.
The feed cuts. ]
Head back up at your leisure, citizens. The rest of the night is yours.
[ At the back of the room, the Bathyspheres unlock! Congratulations on surviving your first trial, everyone who did! ]
