WEEK 3

Well, the tail end of Week 2 could have gone better. That's the first thing to note.

The second thing is... hang on, should it be Week 3 yet? You've all gone to sleep (or... not, in the case of anyone who doesn't), but when you wake up (and you do all wake up), the calendar and clock on your device informs you that it's Sunday. In-character, all characters explicitly have absolutely no memory of Saturday.

Your sense of time isn't the only thing that's changed - a new branch of the facility has opened and become active overnight, giving you new resources and places to investigate, should you so choose. There's also a new channel on the television, though whether it's an improvement over the last one is questionable.

Otherwise, though, things have mostly settled into normalcy again, or at close to normal as you can find in this place. How long that peace will last, though... that's becoming increasingly uncertain, moving forward.

I have rarely been one to allow apprehension to dictate my actions, Rhea. If the price of solitude is to take such a risk, I will choose such a thing of my own will.

That is, of course, a noble goal. My own efforts are similar even if the church must step in to help guide the wayward.

Not really. But it does mean we won't be able to get much information about his living quarters or habits from others.

I think that bullshit's just his excuse to keep jerking us around. [ She kind of grumbles that...but she keeps her eyes on Mira and forces her growl down. ] Nothing that man could possibly be doing has any logic...except to his experiments

I... understand I was probably not acting at my best when you gave me that scroll. I will admit it was more than just for the scripture's safety.

[Nira nods as she continues shaping the general figure of the head and horns.] Yeah, I do. It's a good way to get aggressive emotions out and all that.

It would not be a proper confession were it done through insistence.

I... didn't want to bring it up if you weren't comfortable with it.

Oh? In what regard?

[That seemed...well, Kirei wasn't sure he had a word for what the seemed like.]

That is, I believe, to be natural. We all wish to walk our path freely. However in this situation are we not the sheep? Our host wishes to turn part of our number into predators. So I believe that hoping that another one of our number does not fall is also natural.

Eh, we all make mistakes. Raise the dead a time or two.

[ Oh, well, she winces, just briefly. ]

...So. What inspired this burst of creativity? Or...do I really have to ask?

I did not wish Seteth to see it.

[She... can't really get out of this by just not saying anything. So she has to do her best.]

While we are close we have our differences in policies when it comes to the Church. If he knew I collected scripture pertaining to certain things it would lead to an argument and unnecessary strain.

In the continent of Fodlan there are three countries. The Church of Seiros oversees the spiritual well-being of all three. It is a balancing act. If we act too much then we are seen as overstepping our boundaries, if we ignore political disturbances in one of the countries then we are said to be too lenient.

[Does the Church run it all??? Who can say.]

I would rather spread the gospel of the Goddess but every archbishop before me has been tasked with keeping the delicate balance of Fodlan's prosperity.

That aside, if anyone truly cares so much for such a base and foolish motive as to act upon it, I may be shocked by this place yet.

[ Ahhh. It's a lot clearer now, and she nods. ]

Then I'll keep it secret. [ She doesn't want to be the cause of any strife between them, especially here. ] It's not my place to reveal that sort of thing, anyway... And if anyone should tell him about it, if you ever feel the need for him to know, it should be you.

I'm usually kind of a mess when I'm staring down stuff like this morning. It's nothing I can't work out of my system, but sometimes I get weird. It happens sometimes.

My, that is a great deal of power to balance.

[He settled upon the term 'strange', upon consideration. Naturally, the Holy Church was deeply entrenched in its own politics and workings both with and against the Association, but something quite so far-reaching was just a bit beyond a mere Executor.]

Is it only you and Seteth overseeing such a wide flock?

Well, he's certainly succeeding. As if he needs to try to pull things like that...

[ He has all the power here, and Mira's sure they all know it. She takes a deep breath. ]

I'd like to put to use what Rhea taught me if we ever meet him face to face, really.

I pray that will be the case, that our number is more virtuous than to give in. Yet greed and ambition are twin evils that cause much suffering. That alone causes doubt in my mind.

Such is the legacy that Saint Seiros decided to hand down.

[Peace... stability. That is what was important.]

Not at all. There are bishops across Fodlan, tending to smaller flocks. There is also the council of cardinals that help guide bigger decisions.

[ It sure isn't, but that's something to think about later, perhaps. ]

I don't think anyone's really equipped to deal with...all that, so it's not a big...thing. Honestly, I was about to do the same. [ She waves the flute idly. ] Keeping your hands occupied is...better than the alternative.

Virtuous is not quite the word I would use. If anything, I would consider ambition more a blessing in this case--that some might dare to hold out and risk murder for greater stakes when offered.

[like for real professor. step it up.]

I will tell him when the time comes but our current situation is not the right place.

[She'd rather not ever tell him but he does seem to like to sniff things out on his own. Still.] I suppose it comes down to that I tend to focus on the past a bit more than he.
