Week 6

Good morning, New Rapture. A new day is dawning.

Another week at the bottom of the sea. You may start to mark the passage of time by the increasing number of people you seem to be bleeding each week - look how few of you there are now. Nearly half your number gone, and for what? The shadowy machinations of some madman? You've met some others, but they seem unable or unwilling to solve this problem for you. Time marches onwards.

In the abyss, New Rapture starts to wake. It's small things, for now - the lights of a building here and there, the flicker of a neon sign for some small business. The restoration of this city continues.

Speaking of this city, there's a new branch of your little slice of it to explore. It's certainly the most picturesque of the branches you've seen.

There's more to see and do, citizens of New Rapture. And hey, there's coins to get, too.

[ Well, you never know when you're going to have to just crawl into a dank hole and sleep! Can he get it open? ]

[ Yep! Looks like a small staircase down, around a corner, and into some kind of dark room? ]

Bit hard to see down here...

[ shut up and go into the cellar, nerd!!!

He descends the staircase, one hand on the closest thing to a wall, one on the hilt of his sword, turns the corner, and enters the room. What will he find? ]

[ As he turns the corner, the automatic lights flick on, and power is restored to the storm cellar! This is fortunate for Nandor's poor eyes. Unfortunate, however, is the noise that accompanies it - about five to ten different instances of the same calliope music and voice, at different levels of distortion: ]

[ They do all cut off after a couple seconds, but like. There are a bunch of these vending machines in various states of repair down here. ]

[ AND HE'S JUMPING OUT OF HIS SKIN ]

[ Okay, it's cool, he's fine and was definitely never scared by a bunch of scary clown vending machines, which he is going to check out, because he was never scared of them.

Are any completely repaired? Also, is there any indication of what did the damage? ... That he can figure out, we gotta consider the audience here. ]

[ None of them actually look damaged, per se! They look like they've been stripped for parts. What those parts are you do not know, because you are Nandor, but like. Someone was cracking open clown ones with the boys on purpose. ]

[ Would it be offensive to ask Misfire to check this out... much to consider.

He's going to be pushing the vending machines around either way, looking for hidden secrets! Is this going to accomplish anything other than reactivating the accursed music? ]

[ It won't be long before he finds a bunch of tools, some of which match the missing tools from the garage in Fontaineland! ]

[ Time to grab all of those so he can take them to the next meeting and someone else can connect the dots! Anything else down here? ]

[ While many of the vending machine parts are simply unaccounted-for, there IS a corner where some of them seem to have been used, along with several other odds and ends - looks like a collection of... found object statues? While these no doubt meant something to the sculptor, they're all a little esoteric. ]

... The fuck is this shit?

[ WELL, MODS, YOU HEARD HIM...... do the statues look humanoid at all? Are there any notable odds and ends? ]

[ I am going to level with you they are, generally, absolutely not humanoid. Gotta love modern art.

The canadian(?) flag made out of dvds nailed into the wall is p impressive tho. ]

[ EXCEPTIONALLY bold to assume Nandor recognizes the Canadian flag (I feel like it's 50-50) and, if he does, that he knows it's usually red! But it's certainly eye-catching. Are there any DVDs he would recognize in the spread? ]

[ Well then it is a flag with a cool leaf!!!

The dvds seem relatively incidental, though there is an audio log nearby! It's not the last thing in here, tho, so you can leave it for last unless Nandor has his radio on him. ]

[ Good call, he absolutely does not! What else is there to see in here? ]

[ Across the way is another small workstation, surrounded by very old snacks that have not rotted, because they're junk food, but like. Nah, Fam. There are some written notes out, as well as a small photograph pinned to the wall of a young blonde woman with little hearts doodled on it. ]

[ He unpins the photo, tucks it into, uh, somewhere on his ensemble, and picks up the notes! Time to laboriously read these babies out loud. ]

[ They seem to be a list of things? ]

- Globe?
- BBQ Sauce (Who doesn't need a good thing of BBQ sauce?)
- Jelly Donut (No need for any others. No shitty donuts!)
- Gun?????
- Weapons
- Bible But Cooler
- Clothes?

[ It sort of goes on like that. Notably, many but certainly not all of them line up with vending machine generic items. ]

[ Yeah, he's absolutely taking that! Are there any particularly notable snacks to be seen? ]

[ Nah, they're pretty generic snacks. It's very "up late working on a project" at this workstation!

At the end of the notes IS written "TO DO: SHUT UP THE HELL CLOWNS

Nothing else down here. Ready for that audio log? ]

[ He was born ready! Actually, no, he was born in 1262 and therefore was categorically unready for the marvels of modern technology, but that's whatever. ]

[ Yeah, well, you know. It's fine? It's fine. Let's listen to that tape!

Tinkering. A nasally female voice designated Female Founder #3 begins clinically narrating. ]

Log date 11 4 2. One week since Fontaine's proclamation. Progress on project...mixed. If that clod Rodyle's primative technology could be more versatile... But the machines we have commandeered do seem, nnyyehhhmhm, promising. Maybe we can't recreate warps from Homeworld...but bringing outside objects in should give us the capability to hold up indefinitely.

[ A pause. General sounds of tinkering. She continues, less clinical and more downtrodden. ]

I haven't felt...homesick for the old barn in a long time. Not at least since starting this project. What began as a way to stick it to Fontaine for assigning me to a simple agricultural position has evolved into our only remaining link to the outside world. I am...nostalgic, and for not the first time, I wish I could ask Steven-

[ The sound of a door opening. A voice identified as Female Founder #2 calls out: ]

Peridot? You've been in here awhile. Do you need a break?

[ Female Founder #3—Peridot—starts up again, sounding suddenly jovial. ]

Oh, no! I'm sure I needn't remind you, Alice May, that I, as a gem, do not require sleep OR food and therefore am the best choice for swift progression on our Operation Ultimate Vending. Please continue to recharge and rest assured that I, Peridot, will complete this next phase before you and the others awaken!

[ Female Founder #2—Alice May: ]

...You're doing the thing again.

[ Peridot: ]

Whaaaat? Noooo. What "thing" is it you're even referring to?

[ Alice May: ]

I'm gonna go get Val-

[ Some general clanging and flailing. Peridot: ]
