Week 6

Good morning, New Rapture. A new day is dawning.

Another week at the bottom of the sea. You may start to mark the passage of time by the increasing number of people you seem to be bleeding each week - look how few of you there are now. Nearly half your number gone, and for what? The shadowy machinations of some madman? You've met some others, but they seem unable or unwilling to solve this problem for you. Time marches onwards.

In the abyss, New Rapture starts to wake. It's small things, for now - the lights of a building here and there, the flicker of a neon sign for some small business. The restoration of this city continues.

Speaking of this city, there's a new branch of your little slice of it to explore. It's certainly the most picturesque of the branches you've seen.

There's more to see and do, citizens of New Rapture. And hey, there's coins to get, too.

meeting room

[Forrest comes in here and sits sometimes; he's never met Garon in person, and this is the closest he's ever come to spending time with him. He really doesn't look well, and that's a concern; Forrest really doesn't understand why they can't just let him go, much less why he's being kept here as his worst enemy.

Jonathan, however, he thinks he understands.]

Is that Dracula, then?

The very same.

[He nods pointing at the cage holding a man that looks a lot like Nandor.]

I am aware that this makes me look rather spiteful, taking such glee in the torture of someone else. But I suppose it's nice knowing that the man who held me captive for a month knows how it feels to feel trapped with no escape.

And if it does...? Sometimes spite is earned. I certainly find I don't fault you for it.

[...Wow, he does look a lot like Nandor though, goodness.]

cw child eating mention

[personal profile] hotpaprika 2022-07-21 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
[He gives Forrest a tiny smile.]

Thank you, Forrest, and in any case I certainly would not want to ill everyone here just to see him die. This is a suitable enough punishment for now.

[...]

Although, if and when we get out of here, I have decided that I am going to kill him myself. Even if he had not tormented me, it does not feel morally right to let a man who murders children to feast on their flesh walk free.

[WHY DO SO MANY PEOPLE EAT CHILDREN...]

That seems entirely fair, truly. And I do feel that it's good that you've come to that decision, if for no better reason than it means the fear has dissipated a bit.

[...]

This incentive feels odd, and I find it rather distasteful all around. I understand tormenting us, but this is...something different.

[WHAT BETTER WAY TO SHOW THAT SOMEONE IS A VILLAIN THAN TO HAVE THEM EAT CHILDREN?

He lets out a half laugh.]

Oh, I am still quite terrified of facing him, but I suppose I have more people to help me.

[But... hmm... Forrest had a point.]

It... is quite peculiar. I feel like this motive would only fit a very niche kind of person, considering they would have to kill all of us and a bunch of strangers that they do not know in order to kill one man.

I suppose I can stand it over the first motive we received, in the very least.

Oh, certainly. I can tolerate this far more, even if I find it cruel to have that man shut in there when he's clearly unwell.

[...He doesn't know shit about Garon but surely he doesn't deserve that?]

Who was it for you, the first time - I believe you said it was your fiancée?
hotpaprika: (6)

[personal profile] hotpaprika 2022-07-22 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, Fon- The Mayor held my fiancée Mina here. Goodness, it feels like an eternity ago. [He looks downcast.] I wonder how Mina is doing now... or if she would even recognize me if we ever reunited...

[He stares into space for a second too long, before he suddenly shakes it off. Right, now wasn't the time to worrying about this.]

So who is that pitiful man who is locked up that you have mentioned? You seem somewhat familiar with him.

I'm actually not familiar with him to talk to; we've technically never met. I was sent to the Deeprealms immediately after I was born, and I was only just recently retrieved, so I'm still getting accustomed to family.

[...Anyway...]

That's my grandfather, however. King Garon. He hasn't been well for some time, and from what my aunts and uncles have to say he's fairly near death. I don't see why he has to be brought here for something like this, only to be executed by someone uninvolved with the conflict.

... Deeprealms?

[What.]

It's... quite peculiar that the Mayor considers him your worst enemy. I would as if he was spiteful to your parents, but...

[The whole... Deeprealms thing...]

...Ah. I keep forgetting that other worlds aren't familiar with them. They're small worlds that can be opened up, where I came from; inside is a different place entirely. Somewhat like how this world is different to the one you came from; if you could open a way to get from your world to this one, it would be a similar idea.

I was raised in one of those small worlds. Time works differently there, it moves far faster; I was sent there with servants while I was a baby, and seventeen years passed for me. But in the main world, it had only been a matter of weeks.

It's a bit strange to think about. My father was only about as old as you are, now that I think about it.
