Well, you've now met the brains of the operation, as well as the shockingly nice-looking young lady in charge of day-to-day business. Now all that's left is to get used to your accommodations - there's 24 other people in similar shoes to yours to meet in this building, you know! And who knows how much longer you might have them...

The daily routine in the facility quickly becomes obvious - the only way to tell time moment to moment is to check the strange device The Professor gave you, but at the same time every day the lights in and out of the facility go up, and at the same time every night they go down. Otherwise, it's almost maddening sometimes, how little happens in here. At least you have a few rooms with enough to hopefully keep you occupied. Who knows what secrets they might hold? And there's always that vending machine, if you can find something that fits in the coin slot...

[Lif's honestly taking a bit of a breather after wandering around this place to little avail; there's quite a few things here, but mostly just entirely too many weird machines that make beeping noises at you so he's. Pretty inclined to stay away from most places right about now. Outside of the library, but he knows he can't exactly live there all the time now.

Which does leave the lounge, which seems occupied by the weird screen music and another person. He can't exactly grin given his facial situation, but his brow quirks in amusement at the face Alice pulls and her statement.]

I'm surprised that anyone could find this 'soothing'. The Professor really must be a rare breed...

[Still...]

What exactly is 'gross' about this?

[Alice's expression goes through a few shifts, like a string being plucked, before it resolves itself into vague discomfort.]

It's...hard to explain. But it reminds me of hospitals. The paintings they hang in them. They're supposed to be soothing, too, but they end up just feeling like they're mocking you, because you're stuck inside and can't see any of it for real.

[Ah. Lif listens; he's not unfamiliar with the idea of...medical tents at the very least, but those don't tend to have any sort of entertainment at all. If anything, it sounds like a step up from what he knew prior...

But it doesn't sound like Alice is very fond of them, so he won't bring that up.]

I understand what you mean. That may just be exactly what this Professor is trying to do to us; make us envy the outside enough, and he'll have us playing into his little game...

It really is an active mockery of all he's forced us into, isn't it?

[Alice crosses her arms, almost defensively, against the very idea that this Professor individual is like the same people who—

No. Not right now, not on the first day. She's not going to let herself spiral already.]

...He's a piece of work.

[Oh, that's...

Hm, maybe he shouldn't have said that. Lif's expression doesn't really change, but he does look up to see Alice after she speaks up.]

He is. There's no denying that.

Are you quite alright?

[precognit]

[Alice is taken aback by the question, and glances up with wide eyes for a moment before schooling her expression. Relaxing her shoulders.]

...I'm fine. Just some bad memories, that's all.

[onefuture]

...I see. My apologies if I contributed to that.

[It really isn't Lif's business to pry, at any rate. If that's something Alice wishes to keep to herself, then he won't pry into it. But he does at least sound apologetic; he may have been dead for a while, but he can at least apologize if he's done wrong.]

[precognit]

No, no. [Alice offers a weak smile, clearly trying to move past the subject quickly, for her own sake as well as Lif's.] No harm, no foul.

[That's...good, then. Lif will gesture over to Alice's book, then, in any case.]

Have you found anything of particular interest, in terms of reading material?

[precognit]

Nothing I haven't seen in most libraries, honestly. [Alice lifts a shoulder in a light shrug, grateful for the change in subject.]

But I'm still grateful to have something to look at besides fish. Not that fish aren't great.

You're certainly not alone in such a regard. It's much the opposite for me, however; many of these books are rather unfamiliar in subject, so it's easy to lose track of time while reading them.

[Oh, but speaking of that--]

So, these books are commonplace where you come from, then.

That's lucky for you. A whole treasure trove of new books!

[She nods, splaying her fingers over the cover of her book.] Most of them I've at least heard of.
