WEEK 1

Well, you've now met the brains of the operation, as well as the shockingly nice-looking young lady in charge of day-to-day business. Now all that's left is to get used to your accommodations - there's 24 other people in similar shoes to yours to meet in this building, you know! And who knows how much longer you might have them...

The daily routine in the facility quickly becomes obvious - the only way to tell time moment to moment is to check the strange device The Professor gave you, but at the same time every day the lights in and out of the facility go up, and at the same time every night they go down. Otherwise, it's almost maddening sometimes, how little happens in here. At least you have a few rooms with enough to hopefully keep you occupied. Who knows what secrets they might hold? And there's always that vending machine, if you can find something that fits in the coin slot...

MONDAY | TUESDAY | WEDNESDAY | THURSDAY

[ ooc: Welcome to Peace Week! Enjoy it while it lasts. Remember, office hours for The Professor's Assistant are over here if you're interested, while regains can be deposited over here! ]

That's true. It would make the most sense for him to be from this world, then.

[personal profile] fivestagegod 2020-04-06 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Probably. This whole...multiple-worlds business is a bit beyond me, if I'm honest.
shieldsister: (🌕 02)

[personal profile] shieldsister 2020-04-06 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Agreed. The best comparison I have are the planes of Oblivion, though this seems something not even Daedric Princes are capable of.

[personal profile] fivestagegod 2020-04-06 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Do me a favor for a moment and assume that I understand things from your world about as well as you understood the card reader last night. "Planes of Oblivion"?
shieldsister: (🌕 07)

[personal profile] shieldsister 2020-04-06 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
[It gets something of a smirk out of her, but she'll elaborate.]

They're essentially another realm - one removed from the world of mortals. The planes of Oblivion are ruled by the Daedric Princes, powerful beings that exist within those realms and occasionally mettle in the lives of mortals. Each of the princes has a sphere of influence and their personality reflects in their plane of Oblivion. Mortals occasionally enter those planes and can be chosen to represent the Daedric Princes, but mostly they exist far from the lives of most men and mer.

[It's a very basic summation, but it's enough to get the point across.]

I almost regret asking.

[why did he ask about homestuck.]

This sounds sort of beyond that, though, yes. Granted, we don't have anything similar where I'm from - we just have our world and that's about all we have solid knowledge of.
shieldsister: (🌕 01)

[personal profile] shieldsister 2020-04-06 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
You're welcome.

[there's more where that came from!!!!!]

There is much we don't understand about our world, and I'm hardly a scholar. I doubt I know more than most people in Skyrim.

[except about one daedric prince but listen it's fine, don't worry about it.]
fivestagegod: (10. do you need love)

[personal profile] fivestagegod 2020-04-06 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Most of my knowledge is specialized. I'm the best in my field, but I freely admit I don't know everything there is to know about the world. It'd be kind of boring if I did, I think; part of the fun for me is closing the gap between what I know and everything there is to find out.
shieldsister: (🌕 07)

[personal profile] shieldsister 2020-04-06 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I can't say I'm surprised to hear that from you.

[ur a nerd, birkin]

My knowledge is likewise specialized, but I never would have guessed that I would be put in a position where most of it would be useless.

[like if we gotta kill a monster then she's your gal, but uh. hmm.]
fivestagegod: (Default)

[personal profile] fivestagegod 2020-04-06 10:26 pm (UTC)(link)
...I'd argue that your particular knowledge base is one of the least useless ones, depending on our interpretation of things.

[like, if we're looking this as purely a killing exercise? dude.]
shieldsister: (🌕 08)

[personal profile] shieldsister 2020-04-06 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
[It gets a short, sharp laugh out of her.]

True enough. Consider yourselves lucky I don't want to play into the Professor's experiment.

[personal profile] fivestagegod 2020-04-06 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd say so. I've never been much of a fighter, myself - one of my... [how do you even classify- ] ...coworkers, I guess? He always handled that, if one of us had to.
shieldsister: (🌕 07)

[personal profile] shieldsister 2020-04-07 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
Tell me about him.

[can she take him???]
fivestagegod: (10. do you need love)

[personal profile] fivestagegod 2020-04-07 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
Al? He's pretty quiet, always really serious about everything. He started out a researcher with me, we were partners on a number of projects before he transferred out. I'm not sure if he was reassigned or if he just found something he liked better, but he did security stuff for a while, and he's in law enforcement now. He likes fighting; he's good with guns, but he's always liked just being able to punch things.

You'd probably like him, honestly.
shieldsister: (🌕 06)

[personal profile] shieldsister 2020-04-07 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
A man who enjoys punching things would fit right in with the Companions. It sounds as though he's a bit brighter than most of my shield-brothers, however.

[Not that she's complaining, she loves those dumbasses but she will absolutely take every opportunity presented to drag them.]

What are "guns"?

[i'm so sorry]
fivestagegod: (Default)

[personal profile] fivestagegod 2020-04-07 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
[...That's fine.]

Handheld projectile weapons. They're pretty deadly if you shoot them at someone; moreso than bows, because the projectiles are small but they get enough speed to just rip through a person.
shieldsister: (🌕 09)

[personal profile] shieldsister 2020-04-07 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
[...hmm.]

Such a thing sounds impossible. While bows certainly do have their weaknesses, I find it hard to imagine something like that could be more deadly.
fivestagegod: (Default)

[personal profile] fivestagegod 2020-04-07 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
They're powered by combustion - they create a small explosion that expels the projectile. So they're not limited by a human being's draw strength.
shieldsister: (🌕 13)

[personal profile] shieldsister 2020-04-07 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
...A controlled explosion to force the projectile to fire faster... That is impressive.

[On the one hand, she hates that she finds it impressive because bows are great and her weapon of choice, but on the other hand holy shit.]
fivestagegod: (03. you say you're okay)

[personal profile] fivestagegod 2020-04-07 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
It is, I guess. They're common weapons nowadays; I usually carry one in case something happens. My work is important, and being able to defend myself from people who might want to interfere with it is a good thing. I'm not very good with them, though.
shieldsister: (🌕 02)

[personal profile] shieldsister 2020-04-07 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
I would like to get the chance to see one, but that seems like a terrible idea here.

[hopefully there are no guns in the vending machine.........]
fivestagegod: (Default)

[personal profile] fivestagegod 2020-04-07 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
...I'm sure the windows are shatterproof, but that still doesn't make it a good idea.

[Like, we won't all die, probably, but someone's going to.]
shieldsister: (🌕 04)

[personal profile] shieldsister 2020-04-07 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
I doubt the Professor would allow such a stupid oversight, but some of the most brilliant minds tend to lack common sense.
fivestagegod: (Default)

[personal profile] fivestagegod 2020-04-07 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
They do. Either way, it's...definitely for the best that we don't have anything like that here. I don't like them much.

[Dislikes: handguns.]
shieldsister: (Default)

[personal profile] shieldsister 2020-04-07 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
[Ah, right, that explains that...]

Because you don't like using them?
