Well, you've now met the brains of the operation, as well as the shockingly nice-looking young lady in charge of day-to-day business. Now all that's left is to get used to your accommodations - there's 24 other people in similar shoes to yours to meet in this building, you know! And who knows how much longer you might have them...

The daily routine in the facility quickly becomes obvious - the only way to tell time moment to moment is to check the strange device The Professor gave you, but at the same time every day the lights in and out of the facility go up, and at the same time every night they go down. Otherwise, it's almost maddening sometimes, how little happens in here. At least you have a few rooms with enough to hopefully keep you occupied. Who knows what secrets they might hold? And there's always that vending machine, if you can find something that fits in the coin slot...

It's a television, so calling it a communication device isn't necessarily far off. It's just that it's typically used for one-way communication. As you can see, [ she says, drily, ] it can pick up signals, even if it can't send them out.

[ She shrugs as she moves to turn the television off again, apparently not in the mood to listen to the irritatingly relaxed music that's playing. ]

The rules make it sound like he doesn't care about property damage as long as we don't touch the windows, but I'm willing to bet he wouldn't replace it. You know, just to be petty.

[He figured that much, yeah. Still, he nods his head in response, though he doesn't really respond much further than that at her explanation.

...Of course, the talk of the rules and just how petty this Professor is gets a bit of a noise of assent from Lif--he clearly agrees.]

That sounds like something he'd do, yes. I doubt he's nearly as unbiased as he claims to be; it's all just a facade for his true nature.

Probably dress it up like it's just cause and effect...

[ But the words are a grumble, and she sighs. ]

Oh, I think he's plenty biased. I just wonder in what way.

It's obviously not towards us, at any rate. He's already willing to try and influence us in a 'favorable' direction, if the books in the library are any indication.

[Lif simply shakes his head.]

Dress it up as much as he likes, there's really only one direction this can go.

[ That earns him with a slight shift in her demeanor, some of her tension going forgotten as she regards him curiously. ]

Did you find something interesting in the library? I haven't gotten around to checking it yet.

[ And, honestly, she doesn't want to look through that many books herself. Way better if other people have already done the work for her. ]

Not particularly, but this Professor seems to have a bias towards certain types of books. There were some on various cultures, some that detailed the fish swimming by our prison, some on human psychology...but there was a whole shelf filled with various methods of murdering one another, as well.

[Needless to say, Lif definitely thinks that the Professor is biased as hell due to that much.]

Well, he did mention being a professor of psychology... [ Still, her eyes narrow. ] Maybe criminology is his specialty, but still, it's not like he should be stocking the library with his personal stash, right?

[ seriously did he run out of funding before he got to the books ]

He shouldn't be, if he wants this so-called experiment to have unbiased results. But that assumes that he either cares, or is biased beyond belief.

I suppose I'm also unsure of how much gold a building like this would take to make, but...perhaps he didn't have much of a choice, either.

I wish I could tell you how much something like this costs, but to tell you the truth, I'm having a hard time wrapping my brain around it myself. [ Like just thinking about it is enough to give her a headache, she reaches up to press the fingertips of one hand against her temple. ] Just this facility by itself must be hundreds of millions of dollars, maybe more, and developing whatever technology was used to bring us here? I can't even imagine.
