Well, you've now met the brains of the operation, as well as the shockingly nice-looking young lady in charge of day-to-day business. Now all that's left is to get used to your accommodations - there's 24 other people in similar shoes to yours to meet in this building, you know! And who knows how much longer you might have them...

The daily routine in the facility quickly becomes obvious - the only way to tell time moment to moment is to check the strange device The Professor gave you, but at the same time every day the lights in and out of the facility go up, and at the same time every night they go down. Otherwise, it's almost maddening sometimes, how little happens in here. At least you have a few rooms with enough to hopefully keep you occupied. Who knows what secrets they might hold? And there's always that vending machine, if you can find something that fits in the coin slot...

Well. That's a bit of a tricky question. 'Cause, see, I know this one, but not...like this. Or with this name.

Bulls-eye. Where's all the feathers, the beaks, the bills? Different name makes it better, but I'm still gonna be thinking about A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of Le Canard Jatte.

I never thought about it before. But, when I look around here it certainly seems like it...

Could be worse. Honestly, I think it's a bit stranger that you actually have similar things to what we've got, just off. Or maybe it's our stuff that's off, I'm not going to judge.

That's what I'm stuck on too. It's not just this painting. Every one of them is almost to a T the same, but these are humans instead of birds or mammals. ...Guess that means the Professor's more from your neck of the woods than mine.

...It makes me wonder how he knows about yours. It doesn't seem like something most of us would've thought of before meeting you.

I surely wasn't going around imagining all of you, either, so...yeah. Ugh, I guess I could ask his assistant... Have you tried talking with her? Gotten any straight answers?

Oh - yeah, no, I admit that I haven't talked to her yet. I probably should sometime, but I'm not really all that comfortable with the idea. Maybe she's nice, but I don't know how much I can trust someone working with the guy who's put us here, you know?

Exactly. That and-- I mean, it's never satisfying to get mad at the people working the floor, you know, when you just know the manager is out there watching like a twisted version of Big Brother, god that guy is already so easy to hate.

Anyway, something's weird there.

I don't know, I know never judge a book by its cover, right? But... That girl looked like a light breeze could blow her away. That's the person sent to monitor all of us? Even people big and bulky as Jasper? Doesn't that just seem off to you?

It does and it doesn't. She doesn't have to physically wrangle us into doing anything, and we're not permitted to fight her. I don't know what's going to happen if we do, but I imagine the Professor will know if we try it and whatever happens next won't be anyone's idea of a good time.

So in other words: maybe don't try to punch her.

I wasn't planning on it. [ A moment's hesitation- ] Okay, it crossed my mind for a moment, but it'd be more satisfying to punch the smug-voiced jackass.

[ Della's realized her children aren't here, so. ]

...You think he's expecting someone to? Like...he's trying to bait us?

I think he won't care if she dies, but I don't think he's trying to encourage us to kill her. Apathy, not malice.

If he's trying to get us to turn on anyone, it's each other first.

With those rules... You're right. I guess I was just trying to see if there's any...hidden angle with her. Guys like the Professor--at least, I think like the Professor--seem the sort to have...backup plans. Like, if he's trying to keep himself from tainting the experiment by interacting with us... She's going to affect it. So what's he really monitoring?

[ Walking herself in circles with this, Della sighs. ]

...I think that's a fair thing to question, but if he's genuine about this being a valid experiment - one that he's planned for and set parameters for, one he's gone to such extents to secure this location for, even - then I don't know if he'd pick an assistant that he thought was going to run the risk of tainting the whole thing.

I realize I'm also trying to apply rational thinking to the person running the sadistic murder experiment, but this is just how I'm seeing things right now.

I admit I'm not crazy about the idea of dying if I mess it up, but at least I'm willing to see it as a challenge for now.

...You gotta do what you gotta do to keep sane...and that includes considering all this a challenge.

I do think it's a winnable one; we just don't have enough information yet. Once we've got a better idea of the full picture, things will start falling into place a little better.

Unfortunately, it's largely a waiting game for now. Not entirely, but largely.

I'm no stranger to taking horrible situations and framing them so they aren't so horrible.

And if he's not going to give us pieces of the puzzle himself, we've got to be proactive in trying to find them, even while we wait.

Definitely. I have some experience with guys like this, unfortunately; there's probably all sorts of stuff to find if we start looking hard enough.

Yerp. [ Is that- is that a way of saying yes- okay, moving on. ] Experiment or not, this is still some sort of weird underwater facility, and those are always crawling with secrets just waiting to be unearthed.
