Well, you've now met the brains of the operation, as well as the shockingly nice-looking young lady in charge of day-to-day business. Now all that's left is to get used to your accommodations - there's 24 other people in similar shoes to yours to meet in this building, you know! And who knows how much longer you might have them...

The daily routine in the facility quickly becomes obvious - the only way to tell time moment to moment is to check the strange device The Professor gave you, but at the same time every day the lights in and out of the facility go up, and at the same time every night they go down. Otherwise, it's almost maddening sometimes, how little happens in here. At least you have a few rooms with enough to hopefully keep you occupied. Who knows what secrets they might hold? And there's always that vending machine, if you can find something that fits in the coin slot...

I would like to be optimistic but to get out of this situation quickly might not be worth the price.

I'm honestly hoping everyone else sees it that way. I have no doubt someone is going to jump eventually, but it seems in our best interests to prevent that for as long as possible.

The problem in the end will be the Professor. Even if the extent of his knowledge did not seem so vast, there would be obvious ways to force a confrontation between us.

...I don't know. I've dealt with his sort before; if they don't want a confrontation, they're usually good enough to prevent one from happening.

'If' is the key word. The fact that he put in that rule seems it unlikely that he would be satisfied with us living peacefully.

Yeah, exactly. I'm sure he wants one, I have no doubt about that; if he didn't we wouldn't be here. At the same time, I don't know if he'd consider forcing one to be too much outside interference.

The lack of clarification on what, exactly, he's looking for isn't really comforting in that regard.

It would depend on his definition of 'forcing', would it not? Certain things could be passed off as chance.

It's a little harder to be that subtle with this little space and so many people to work with. Not impossible, mind, but difficult.

Granted, he doesn't precisely seem like the picture of scientific integrity, but hopefully he'll at least continue to pretend he's legitimate and not try something that base.

He has already shown that he is capable of the difficult in choosing this location. In that, he has allowed himself some movement for subtly but I have to wonder if he is intelligent enough to use it.

[She won't speak her thoughts. No doubt the entire facility is monitored.]

That said, it also depends on what he ultimately deems more important: results or the method. It is too soon to say for sure.

Well, he did say that it would be disappointing but permissible if someone just decided to destroy everyone in the experiment now. Making me question slightly what he considers "results."

Presumably that means that one survivor may be his goal but it happening so quickly would be undesirable.

It might. Bad way to go about it, though.

He has not shown us he knows the meaning of 'good'.

He also hasn't shown us that he's completely irrational, though, either. Assuming that much is a mistake that I'm seeing a lot of people making.

Feel free to think the guy's got problems, but assuming we're inherently superior in every way because we're not the ones running the crazy murder experiment is going to cause issues in solving this.

True, an irrational person would not be able to pull this together. I just believe that in a moral sense is lacking.

[That gets him to laugh a bit, really.]

Fair enough. "Lacking" is probably the gentlest way to put that.

It may be gentle, yes, but it is only to counteract what will become of him.

I do not speak of only what will happen to his spirit, either. Punishment must be enacted during life as well for those deserving of it.

...I'd hope so? Not all of us really believe in retribution in the afterlife, and as such such I'm certain we're not going to be opposed to punishing him while we're all still alive to do it.

Of course. However, as I am a member of the clergy if I did not specify it might have been taken the wrong way.
