Well, you've now met the brains of the operation, as well as the shockingly nice-looking young lady in charge of day-to-day business. Now all that's left is to get used to your accommodations - there's 24 other people in similar shoes to yours to meet in this building, you know! And who knows how much longer you might have them...

The daily routine in the facility quickly becomes obvious - the only way to tell time moment to moment is to check the strange device The Professor gave you, but at the same time every day the lights in and out of the facility go up, and at the same time every night they go down. Otherwise, it's almost maddening sometimes, how little happens in here. At least you have a few rooms with enough to hopefully keep you occupied. Who knows what secrets they might hold? And there's always that vending machine, if you can find something that fits in the coin slot...

[ She rolls her eyes a little; it is a little funny, and she's been dealing with her Uncle's eccentricities since...a long time, by now. But, she feels some need to defend him. ]

Oh, what, you don't have money back on...wherever Gems come from? What do you use to exchange for goods and services?

[Rose isn't the best at noticing when she's said something wrong, and any meager ability is definitely completely quashed by how much she doesn't like that question.]

Nothing. Higher-ranking gems just take what they want.

[ Della, on the other hand, has the feeling she accidentally stepped into a difficult topic. ]

Well, that sounds like it sucks.

Where...do you live now? With humans?

I live on Earth, with the other Crystal Gems.

[Humans, sometimes. Often enough.]

There's only four of us left, but Homeworld hasn't bothered us in thousands of years. [so at least they have that? it isn't enough, but]

Crystal Gems... [ Like the Amethyst she mentioned, maybe. ]

...Well...if that's where you've been for that long, I guess Earth's your home, so... No sense digging up old news, right?

[Rose is obviously relieved. Let's never speak of this again!]

[ What to do... There's a moment's pause before Della continues. ]

So, uh, anyway... My uncle Scrooge is really careful with his money because he didn't have much when he was a kid. His fortune's all self-made, so he likes to keep track of it...even if he does go to some extremes.

What...does he do to make it?

[This is a normal human question about money? Pretty sure?]

Mostly investing what he already has. But when he was starting off, it was [ and she puts on a surprisingly good but exaggerated Scottish accent ] shoe shinin', ten cents a shine!

[ There's a fond look on her face. ]

Uncle Scrooge is brilliant. He took what he earned and just kept helping it grow.

[Does Rose understand investment?]

That sounds so nice! It's always good to help things grow.

[ Unfortunately, observant as Della is, she misses Rose's confusion. Actually, this is probably fortunate, because no one wants to hear Della explain the stock market. That wouldn't be fun for anyone. ]

Everyone thinks he's just stingy, but- okay, he is stingy, but he really does put his money to good use. With all the enemies he has, it makes sense to be a little paranoid.
