Well, you've now met the brains of the operation, as well as the shockingly nice-looking young lady in charge of day-to-day business. Now all that's left is to get used to your accommodations - there's 24 other people in similar shoes to yours to meet in this building, you know! And who knows how much longer you might have them...

The daily routine in the facility quickly becomes obvious - the only way to tell time moment to moment is to check the strange device The Professor gave you, but at the same time every day the lights in and out of the facility go up, and at the same time every night they go down. Otherwise, it's almost maddening sometimes, how little happens in here. At least you have a few rooms with enough to hopefully keep you occupied. Who knows what secrets they might hold? And there's always that vending machine, if you can find something that fits in the coin slot...

[There we go! Shelley grins for a moment before getting serious]

I'm sure you know we can't survive underwater unless there's air, and there's plenty here. That means it's getting pumped in somehow. Each room must have an air vent -- and where there's an airvent, there's a passageway. You get me?

[And in her opinion, a thief would have the best chances of exploring through those vents without being heard. Leaving aside the issue of finding vents in the first place, Shelley would sound like a rampaging bull passing through an air vent, really]

[Oh, snap. That isn't a stupid reason to talk to him at all. Why didn't she lead with that, geez? He finally turns away from the shelf to look at her.]

What would one of these vents look like?

[He's swallowed enough pride by now to know he doesn't know shit.]

They should be these square holes? They have a grate or something to cover them, and usually are this big because...a lot of air has to pass by, I guess?

[She shows how big they tend to be. Seem decently big]

I dunno if they're like this in here. I'm sure they exist because there's air everywhere, but finding them is the hard part, especially in large rooms!

Easier for me to fit in a space that size than the Ratkin...

[Mostly it seems like he's just muttering that to himself. He looks around, as if he might spot something that looks like an air vent just like that, then stalks off.]

I'm getting the ladder.

Great! Searching time.

[Obviously it can't be behind a shelf, so it must be on an open place. Hmmmm...while Shelley searches around in places where a ladder wouldn't be needed, she mulls other matters]

What will you need for the exploration. Therion? Stuff to write on? Ropes? A weapon in case you encounter terrifying spiders in the ducts?

[Short huff of a laugh.]

Do you have any?

Not right now, but it shouldn't be hard to get stuff we need, right? Even weapons. Maybe the kitchen could give knives. This place is all about murder and terrar, I bet they'd give knives to anyone who asks.

[Who kills spiders with a kitchen knife, though]

[Therion absolutely would. Then again, spiders are much bigger where he comes from.]

Kitchen knives aren't ideal for fighting spiders. You want blades you can throw, so you stay out of range of its jaws. Or so you have time to cut yourself free if it webs you.

Then you're out of luck. I haven't seen throwing knives anywhere.

[Maybe some will come out of the vending machine at some point, she figures]

Doesn't matter. I wouldn't expect large spiders at the bottom of the ocean, anyway. They're not known for swimming.

[...Hm.]

Suppose if we found anything crawling around in these air passageways, it'd suggest there's a way to the surface. Even if it just means it stowed away on one of your submer... things. We'd know there's something around that's made a recent enough trip.

Oh, you're right! And if you find something but it's dead, then maybe it means this place has been sealed for longer than we think. Which is not...a good thing to find out.

Better than not finding out at all.
