Well, you've now met the brains of the operation, as well as the shockingly nice-looking young lady in charge of day-to-day business. Now all that's left is to get used to your accommodations - there's 24 other people in similar shoes to yours to meet in this building, you know! And who knows how much longer you might have them...

The daily routine in the facility quickly becomes obvious - the only way to tell time moment to moment is to check the strange device The Professor gave you, but at the same time every day the lights in and out of the facility go up, and at the same time every night they go down. Otherwise, it's almost maddening sometimes, how little happens in here. At least you have a few rooms with enough to hopefully keep you occupied. Who knows what secrets they might hold? And there's always that vending machine, if you can find something that fits in the coin slot...

Nothing's stopping me from leaving, either.

[Rather than up and go, though, Therion sets the instructions down and picks up one of the player tokens, rolling it absently between his fingers.]

I'm familiar with games. [He doesn't sound persnickety about it, at least.] But no, I haven't seen this one before. You know it?

... That's true.

[ Hmm. She nods, though. ]

I do... maybe a little too well. I used to play it with a couple of people quite often.

Was it a favorite of yours, then?

Absolutely... if I was the one winning.

Heh. Wasn't expecting an answer like that from you.

[He puts the token down--a rocket ship, maybe. This version is based on something called The Rocket Kids, whatever that is.]

There was a merchant girl traveling with my group who'd love a game like this.

Well... there's plenty you don't know about me.

[ Ah. She wasn't expecting Therion to open up in any way, but. ]

Really? Maybe you should take this back to her i-- when we get out of here.

Bring a game with this many pieces out on the road? I don't think so.

[It's no Yahtzee: Travel Edition.]

I'll have to tell her about the money printed on paper, though. I'm sure she'll have ideas about that.

Mm, fair enough.

[ Hmmm. ]

Really? Do you use coins, then?

[bolderfell]

Sure. [...] You use paper money for real, where you're from?

Mm, there's paper money and coins... but lots of people use a card. It's like the key cards we have, but it has--

[ ... Ah, but before she dives into a whole Thing-- ]

It's a bit of an explanation, if you're at all curious.

...I think right now I'm better off concentrating my education on things that matter down here.

[He leans forward a bit, though. Puts one elbow on the table, rests his chin in his hand.]

Do you know how the key cards work? Not just how to use them, you showed me--but what the mechanism of it is?

[philoxenia]

[ Huh. ]

No... I'm sorry, I don't know the specifics of it. [ She pauses. ] ... Angel might, though.

[bolderfell]

[He lifts his brows a bit.]

What makes you say that?

[philoxenia]

Well... she'd know this place better than any of us.

[bolderfell]

It's not common knowledge, how locks work?

[philoxenia]

Ah, well... it's a little sophisticated than a regular lock, I think. I think it follows the same idea, though... The key card is unique to a reader, so they have to match.

But... I don't know the details, honestly.

[bolderfell]

Hmmm.

Guess it's worth looking into. I've been meaning to talk with her, anyway.
