Happy New Year! ... You're still here. Looks like The Captain wasn't lying when he said the murdering is now up to you. That, or you can all live here on your own. Regardless, it's time to settle in. The days start passing much less eventfully after that first one, and, well... on it goes, huh?

There might not be a whole cruise ship to explore just yet, but there are a variety of amenities available to all of you! Who ever heard of a boring cruise ship, anyway? As the week goes on, you might even start to see some of those strange coins appear for you!

Better buckle down and get to know your fellow passengers, though, if you want to stand a chance of weathering this storm.

[This is nice, really; Freyja isn't going to be winning any Olympic medals or anything but she's at least good at not drowning.]

Adeline. You certainly may. The evening is pleasant tonight.

[Adeline's smile widens as she slips into the pool, her tail flicking back and forth as she dives downwards before emerging next to where Freyja is.]

It certainly is. And the company's not bad, either.

That's...very kind of you to say.

Well, I wouldn't say it if it wasn't true. [She treads water for a while.] I hope you don't mind that you might have to be stuck with us mortals for a while.

My brother loved your lot quite a bit. All mortal beings, I think, but humans in particular.

[oceangirlfriend]

[She notices that past tense. And the fact that she only mentions her brother's opinions. But she doesn't think she can really pry, there.] Did he interact with them more often, then? Or was he the kind to admire from afar?

When I still lived within his realm - before I left and formed my own - we both resided within the halls and eternal meadows of Ljósálfheimr. It's a beautiful place, full of light... Children could often find their way there. They dream and believe more easily than adults do; it wasn't uncommon for them to spend time with our kind for a while, and to forget about us during the waking hours, until they could no longer access our realms.

My brother always tended to love those times; he greatly valued them, really.

That does sound lovely. It reminds me of some legends of my world, as a matter of fact.

Does it...?

Yeah...there's legends about the realm of dreams, ruled over by the Legendaries Cresselia and Darkrai. Cresselia brings good dreams, and Darkrai nightmares. Of course Cresselia's realm is full of light, and it's said that her feathers sometimes fall to the mortal world, as protective talismans.

[Mm.]

We do not tend to offer our protection and our defenses to the mortals, for to deny one of us power in the mortal realm would likely lead to...unfortunate things. But my brother had control of the horn Gullinkambi, which could be used to free humans from the confines of sleep when sounded from our gates.

[oceangirlfriend]

[Adeline paddles a bit, circling around Freyja as she takes this in.] That sounds pretty impressive. Was...it a common problem, for humans to end up unable to wake up?

[dokkalfheimr]

[She's content to tread for the time being; the water feels good.]

It wasn't common. But it's happened before. Recently, even.

[oceangirlfriend]

Oh. Did you...figure out what caused it? Or...your brother figure it out? [Since it sounds like that was more of his domain.]

[dokkalfheimr]

I'm not sure what caused it; I just know that there were adults in Ljósálfheimr - the realm of dreams is often frequented by children, as they believe and dream both easily and vividly. Adults are rarer.

They didn't know how they ended up there either?

[dokkalfheimr]

To my knowledge, no.

[oceangirlfriend]

Huh...if this happened in my world, I'd suspect it had something to do with Darkrai and his curses, but I don't know if your dream realm has a nightmarish counterpart in this case.

[dokkalfheimr]

Not one that arbitrarily curses people.

[So there's that.]

Such things can happen if someone does something to deserve it, of course. But such things are reserved for people like the Captain.

Wouldn't that be something to see. Though probably not while we're locked out of the ship controls ourselves.

[dokkalfheimr]

I don't intend to let him go unpunished, believe me. That will come once my powers are back, and preferably once something can be done about the situation. But I don't intend to let him go lightly.

[oceangirlfriend]

Mmmm...I won't mourn for him at all. [Though she's not sure she'd want to watch.] He's had enough time to deescalate and return us, after all.
