WEEK 1

Happy New Year! ... You're still here. Looks like The Captain wasn't lying when he said the murdering is now up to you. That, or you can all live here on your own. Regardless, it's time to settle in. The days start passing much less eventfully after that first one, and, well... on it goes, huh?

There might not be a whole cruise ship to explore just yet, but there are a variety of amenities available to all of you! Who ever heard of a boring cruise ship, anyway? As the week goes on, you might even start to see some of those strange coins appear for you!

Better buckle down and get to know your fellow passengers, though, if you want to stand a chance of weathering this storm.

[So Adeline actually went to bed early last night. Everything she encountered has been percolating in her head somewhat, and this morning she's up bright and early. She glances over at her roommate.]

...so, I feel we got off to an awkward first meeting last night. Can we start over from the beginning?

[Later on, she can be seen walking around with a notebook and pen from one of the vending machines. She'll wave down anyone who comes by.]

Excuse me, could I ask you if anything on this list is familiar to you? [She holds out a page from her notebook, which also has various other notes and doodles on the side.]

[Come nighttime, she can be found in the library, sipping canned coffee and scanning through the books. She first starts looking at the title page of each book, just to check their publication dates, before seeking out books about history and geography, trying both to compare them to the world she knows and checking if the books are consistent with each other. Even when lights-out happens, she takes out her phone and uses it as a makeshift light to keep studying, though she'll head back to her room when she starts yawning hard enough.]

[Sara hasn't said much, just laying on her bed and staring at the ceiling.]

Why is it so important, compared to everything else?

[Despite the late hour upon which they came to be on this ship, Flayn doesn't sleep much on that first night. Part of it is worry - things are strange and frightening, their unseen Captain has threatened their lives and expects them to devolve into murder, and the only official they've seen in person is an intimidating octopus man who may or may not be a legendary figure of nautical myth.

But on the other hand, part of it is excitement. This place is new and interesting, the Captain cannot seem to do direct harm to them in the way he so desires, and the only official they've seen in person is an intimidating octopus man who may or may not be a legendary figure of nautical myth! That's incredible! There's so much to think about, so much to wonder, that it is likely no surprise when, as morning seems to approach, she quietly sits up and looks to wherever her roommate Lorna is.]

Excuse me? Are you awake?

[(That's another thing - she's never gotten to have a roommate before! How exciting is that!)

The Jimmy Buffet later becomes a source of neverending curiosity for Flayn. The sheer amount of seafood options nearly send her into a tizzy, and it takes a lot of restraint not to pile several plates high with them - not even Flayn could eat that much fish in one sitting - so instead she settles on one very large plate with one singular piece of fish from every selection, and...well, not very many of the non-seafood options, they look very sad. But she did remember to put some veggies on her plate! Some sad, steamed veggies. And a little bit of spaghetti. Both are less depressing when combined with a forkful of fish, thank goodness. She also takes some time to poke around the bar, intrigued by the idea of making herself a Fancy Drink, and ends up with...well, she doesn't know it exists already, and the novelty of fizzy soda and sweet red syrup and cherries in a pretty glass - with an umbrella of course - does not get old. If you ask nicely, she may make one for you.

Towards late afternoon and into the evening, however, Flayn can be found in the Library, perusing its selection with sparkling eyes. The books here are nothing like what she's used to - the words are printed, for one, making them easier to read, and two?

There's a lot of different books about romance.

This is all she's ever wanted to read and more. While decidedly flipping past the, uh, more salacious scenes, Flayn otherwise doggedly reads every word, basking in the tropey drama that she never gets to see and yet so desperately wants to enjoy.

Not a bad way to spend day one of your murdercruise.]

[Sara's poking around to try and find something useful when she sees Flayn's stack of not-quite-useful books. She stares for a second, contemplates not saying anything at all, but...]

Why the lizard man?

[Someone else is here, but still looks a little wary about indulging in the buffet. At least it's different stuff to the night before, it's not stale food, but still...]

I dunno if there's a kitchen or anything like that, but if not, do you think Davy Jones cooked this?

[Filbo whispers that, as if he's afraid Davy Jones is going to materialize behind him and kill him for daring to insinuate he cooks seafood -- but really, if there's no cook, either the Captain does it, or Davy Jones does, and the Captain sure doesn't seem the kind to do anything for them]

[So, Shard doesn't really need to sleep? It usually makes for some lonely nights, but for once he doesn't mind. Once the meeting really wraps up and everyone that needs to has headed for bed, he's going to conduct as thorough a search of the ship as possible. Specifically, looking for the cameras the captain claims to have access to.]

[He was clearly capable of seeing into the theater, at least, and there was no reason the rest of the ship wouldn't be similarly monitored. If it was, finding out any blindspots would be important.]

[Come morning he's raided the vending machines for some thick pens and picked a nice blank spot of wall on deck. He's christened it with a very unflattering caricature of a man in a captain's hat. There are stink lines above him.]

There's more pens if you wanna add on.

I know what Pokemon Centers and pokeballs are but I don't recognize the rest. Why?

[It's possible Scott is the only person who hasn't figured out they're all from different universes yet. He is, as always, very slow on the uptake.]

Okay, that is like, an impressive variety of hunks, including the lizardman, and maybe the last one has some of the women he likes but--]

Are you not, perhaps, too old for those sorts of books...?

[he bothered to check the profiles.]

I believe you will find I am roughly the correct age for these sorts of books.

[The words are very pointed, like, we are Not going to Address My Age.]

Are they not perused by mature young ladies?

Hm, I am not sure...but if there was not a kitchen, where would he begin to cook in the first place?

[Inconclusive, but at the same time, is Flayn going to pass up a fish meal-of-your-choosing? Never.]

I suppose our other option is...the machines? In that one room? But I would not know how to make the food come out.

Why not the lizard man?

[He's not a Nabatean but she appreciates the view.]

If I am going to read my fill of romantic stories, I want to try as many different kinds as I can before anyone can stop me.

[Well it's the new year and he's on murdercruise to nowheresville. This year is already starting pretty badly, but...when you're at the bottom, there's no way but up! In a way that didn't involve, you know, killing anyone, hopefully.

But Filbo isn't too worried. For some reason he doesn't feel like he'd be a target for anyone. True, he's not too great but nobody hates him yet! And hopefully nobody ever will, but he knows it's not impossible there'll be someone with a bone to pick with him for pretty much no reason. He has experienced that before, after all.

This all simply means he can spend all his time worrying for everyone else instead of himself. What if...someone is killed? It could--It could happen. He knows that]

There's a long day ahead of us, roomie! Time for me to get started with work!

[He said that to Jasper before leaving the room he and Jasper shared. Filbo didn't wait to see if Jasper had heard him or if he even cared. There were far more important things to think about.

Library

Well, plans changed: the day before he had said to Freyja finding where the ship was going would be a good starting point. There now was an answer to that: to nowhere unless murder happened. In that case, perhaps...something about their location could help? Like, how close they were to the coast, or something like nautical charts with a route in it? Filbo didn't have the slightest idea how to read nautical charts, but he'd cross that bridge once he got there.

There's Filbo, rooting through the books, looking for those that weren't fiction. Every book that wasn't of any use was left aside on the floor, messy stacks of them piled against the wall. A couple of books about oceans were wide open, showing blue graphics about nautical routes.

Still, Filbo comments to anyone who comes close to see what he's doing:]

Why are there so many romance books? I don't hate the genre, but it's a strange choice, don't you think? Unless...does the Captain want you all to hook up?

[Using the books as inspiration and what not. Have ships while on this cruise ship, everyone! Hah!

Once the library books were checked, Filbo visited the vending machines. Oh, so much free stuff! He already has taken a lot of office supplies and many cans of soda, leavin everything to a side of the room while he keeps checking the machines]

It's all for free! Well, I suppose that was to be expected, we don't have money. [Filbo knocked on the only vending machine that wasn't free] But what's in this one? If it needs money we don't have then it must be important. It can't be it has more sodas inside, right?

[Or maybe it does, who knows]

[She doesn't look sure what to think of that, but eventually shakes her head.]

Trying to have fun in here?

[A smile!]

Yes! At least for now. I am not sure how fun it will be the longer we stay. What about you?

[Things Sara is used to: not blue people. Particularly not when they're going ham at vending machines. Excuse the staring while she finds the words to speak (which is hard even when you're not getting used to not making yourself shut down any attempts at conversation anymore).]

...do you need all that pop and pencils?

[Nailed it.]

But why? I know people do it, but... when you could die at any time, it feels pointless, doesn't it?

[First things first: Albedo is in for a surprise, because Lalli sleeps under the bed. Meaning that his first modification to the room is to grab his pillow and blanket and make a bed for himself under the bottom-most bunk. Albedo can find him when he's making that modification.

As for outside the room, Lalli can be found in a couple places! First off being the gym, where he's staring at the treadmill.]

What is this for?

[Likewise, Lally can be found by the pool, staring at it with disdain on his face.]

This is pointless. Why is it even here? It just takes up space.

[It's not like Filbo is a fitness nut or anything, he's in the gym for investigation and finding nothing -- someone else will have to find stuff, haha. Still, he does hear Lalli wonder what something was, and finds him staring at the treadmill.

Does he mean the treadmill...? Huh, could it be this ship has stuff from his world humans don't know about? Because Filbo does know what this is:]

That's a treadmill! It's for running. You know, you get on it and start running.

[Humans from Lalli's world don't really know about exercise equipment, unless your name is Mikkel.]

What does it do? Does it take you somewhere? Like a car powered by feet?
