Happy New Year! ... You're still here. Looks like The Captain wasn't lying when he said the murdering is now up to you. That, or you can all live here on your own. Regardless, it's time to settle in. The days start passing much less eventfully after that first one, and, well... on it goes, huh?

There might not be a whole cruise ship to explore just yet, but there are a variety of amenities available to all of you! Who ever heard of a boring cruise ship, anyway? As the week goes on, you might even start to see some of those strange coins appear for you!

Better buckle down and get to know your fellow passengers, though, if you want to stand a chance of weathering this storm.

Do you mean sharing a room with someone else?

Yes. Of course, I'm not saying that anyone's roommate would back them up but unless they stayed up all night staring at the ceiling it would be hard to prove that you weren't in your room. Yes, it might be easier to lie about being in your room if they were all single rooms but it's still an alibi.

That's certainly very true! I suppose if someone is a light enough sleeper that might help... but we may also have some people who simply have trouble sleeping or want to be out late at night!

[So yeah, it's a pretty damn good alibi.]

Exactly. It might be true that this arrangement is for space but this is a cruise ship, I doubt they would only put in thirteen rooms.

You're familiar with ships like these? I've never seen anything like it before; all the ships I've been on have been much smaller.

Me? No, I could never afford something like this.

[She laughs at the thought but she pauses.] I have seen advertisements, though. Normally cruise ships hold many more passengers than our current number.

So there would need to be many more rooms...

It does seem like there's more to the ship; I noticed there's a grate locking off something.

Yes, usually at least more than one floor of rooms, too. I know of a famous one that sunk that was carrying at least three thousand people.

[How do you even remember that?? She pauses.]

I saw that, too. Doubtless there are more floors but this is still rather small.

The more I hear about this, the less it makes sense...

[Three thousand people? Then why are there so few of them? Obviously this setup is fake, but why bother with a boat at all??]

I suppose we'll have to look for a key! I wonder where it could be.

It seems more like a private boat rather than a proper cruise liner...

[Maybe a large yacht? She didn't know. This was beyond anything she experienced.]

Probably in a place we're likely to see. A chandelier maybe?

Oh, that's an excellent idea! But how would we check that? I don't believe I've seen any ladders here...

I haven't either. I suppose we could make a makeshift ladder through furniture but it would be rather easy to sabotage.

That sounds like an excellent way to accidentally murder someone.

It would be easier to cover it up, I guess.

Though, I think maybe the tops of the vending machines would be slightly easier to get to. Only a chair would be needed.
