Happy New Year! ... You're still here. Looks like The Captain wasn't lying when he said the murdering is now up to you. That, or you can all live here on your own. Regardless, it's time to settle in. The days start passing much less eventfully after that first one, and, well... on it goes, huh?

There might not be a whole cruise ship to explore just yet, but there are a variety of amenities available to all of you! Who ever heard of a boring cruise ship, anyway? As the week goes on, you might even start to see some of those strange coins appear for you!

Better buckle down and get to know your fellow passengers, though, if you want to stand a chance of weathering this storm.

[Honestly, Jasper has big questions for the Captain and the First Mate, but he really doesn't want to actually acknowledge that to anyone at all yet outside of... maybe... possibly... the person who already figured it out even if he didn't want to acknowledge it to that person anyway look he's just going to try and vibe while making himself useful.

So, today's mission, after he spends an inordinate amount of time in the shower (both due to all the time spent dissociating and the fact that he takes forever in the shower anyway), he puts on the suit minus jacket and tie, gets... lunch... because he got up late, go to the library to pick out nonfiction books, and makes himself some kind of fruity concoction so he can spend the afternoon reading and lounging on the top deck.

In fairness, he isn't just lazing about. He actually spends a fair amount of time taking a break from his reading and looking at the sky and the ocean to see if he can spot any signs of the weather changing or any wildlife that might be visible from the ship. He's not really sure what to expect, but at the same time, if the weather seems entirely uniform and there aren't any signs of wildlife, that might be some clue about the ship's circumstances.

...and, well, even though he leaves for meals and such, he's back up on the top deck late at night. He's not lounging or swimming, though, he's just... staring off into the middle distance as he leans on the railing.]

[He isn't the only one up on the top deck late at night; unlike Jasper, it does seem as though Freyja came up here to swim, judging from her...attire, or lack thereof, though she seems content to just take a seat on one of the lounge chairs nearby for the time being.]

[It's tempting not to really acknowledge anyone right now, but... he supposes he would be holed up somewhere considerably more private if he didn't want to talk to anyone about anything.

Just keep it surface level. That ought to be fine.]

I have had a lot to take in over the last few days, and it is not particularly easy to find something else to focus on at this hour.

Usually I would have my duties to keep me busy at night, but now I have nothing of the sort. Just my thoughts.

Oh, that is right — you are effectively in charge of dreams, are you not, Your Majesty? I had the pleasure of discussing the whole thing with Plumeria.

[he is not nearly as sarcastic about the word “pleasure” as one would expect because he genuinely had fun there, and also he’s being polite in the presence of royalty.]

I suppose you and your subjects would be primarily working on the night shift, then.

That's precisely it. So to be this unoccupied...it's difficult. Though I can't say that I'm ungrateful for the company tonight.

I have tended to prefer solitude in the past, but perhaps it is best not to be alone with my own thoughts here. So the company is welcome, to be sure.

[Jasper is very suddenly shaken out of the minor key version of the Wii Shop Channel theme that has been playing endlessly in his brain for the past however long, and he does... start a bit, but.

Oh! Yeah, showers are pretty boss. They're probably one of the top five cool things about the modern world behind energy drinks and pizza.

[Do normal people have conversations with someone in the shower? Probably not, but Scott has lived with Wallace Wells for a long time and he sees nothing weird about this.]

I have had it plenty of times in Gondolia, though I suppose it must be more widespread in your world.

[ So! The weather is changing for sure - clouds drift by, that's normal.

There are, however, no signs of life in the air or sea. ]

[Well, that's fucking weird. He does kind of wonder about how fast the ship is going, but it's not like he has a common log to check...

[... okay so like. he's going to head to Jimmy Buffett's Jimmy Buffet, get some light food, head over to the lower deck, and chuck it overboard, just in case the sea life is giving the ship some sort of berth.]

[ It drifts away pretty fast, but uh. No sea life comes to claim it. ]

[HMMM. Not even the big tentacular type thing, huh...

...also in the naval history books in the library, would any of them tell him how to locate Polaris, actually.]

Perhaps a bit of both, if I must be entirely honest.

[His gaze shifts slightly, but he doesn’t turn around.]

It is strange, looking at such an unfamiliar sky. It is the sort of thing I have always took for granted, really.

[Plumeria doesn't really see the difference, from where she's seeing it.]

The stars are definitely much clearer than they would be in Dökkálfheimr, I'll give you that. But is it really that different from what you would see in Erdrea?

Hmm...

[He ponders how to explain it.]

At a glance, the night sky looks the same as in Erdrea minus, perhaps, the brightest star in our sky... but, well, if you have studied the night sky for whatever reason, you begin to notice that everything is rather off. I have a naval background, so I have used the constellations and specific stars as navigational tools at times, so it is somewhat disorienting if you can see none of the same patterns.

...Yeah, I think I get it. It's like having a map that you've been able to follow for as long as you remember, and then the entire thing changes on you in the blink of an eye?

[Makes enough sense to her, at least.]

That is a good way to put it, yes.

[He sighs a bit wistfully.]

It would be one thing if there were any star maps so I could familiarize myself with the local constellations, but I have not been able to find any.
