WEEK 1

Happy New Year! ... You're still here. Looks like The Captain wasn't lying when he said the murdering is now up to you. That, or you can all live here on your own. Regardless, it's time to settle in. The days start passing much less eventfully after that first one, and, well... on it goes, huh?

There might not be a whole cruise ship to explore just yet, but there are a variety of amenities available to all of you! Who ever heard of a boring cruise ship, anyway? As the week goes on, you might even start to see some of those strange coins appear for you!

Better buckle down and get to know your fellow passengers, though, if you want to stand a chance of weathering this storm.

MONDAY | TUESDAY | WEDNESDAY | THURSDAY
FRIDAY | SATURDAY

[ ooc: Welcome to peace week! Feel free to mingle (and investigate, if you like) to your hearts' content! Please ensure all investigation toplevels are marked accordingly, and otherwise enjoy! If you wish to talk to The Captain or Davy Jones, look here for the former and here for the latter! ]

Well, conversation I can provide. [She finds a nearby spot to sit down, nibbling at her food as she speaks.] Is there a reason it's called that? Or is it just the room number?

It is on the tenth deck, at the direct front of the ship.

[WHICH IT TOOK ME AGES TO REALIZE WAS THE REASON IT IS CALLED THAT]

Every crew member has a replicator in their room, which can produce any foodstuff, but Ten Forward is a communal experience. That is good for humans, and I often find it refreshing as well.

Wow, you have replicators already? [Despite the excited look on her face, her tone of voice remains mostly even.] That's really advanced compared to our current work. The closest we've got is probably duplication magic, and that can't really be done en masse yet. But yeah, company's also good. Humans are naturally social creatures, after all.

[He blinks.]

Your world has magic as well as technology?
oceangirlfriend: (Default)

[personal profile] oceangirlfriend 2021-01-29 08:15 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, we do. It's sort of a more recent thing, though-most humans don't really have the talent for it, and even the ones who did didn't have much training.

Oh, have you made contact with another species?

[personal profile] oceangirlfriend 2021-01-29 07:21 pm (UTC)(link)
You could call it that. Technically we lived side-by-side a long time ago, but that's so far in the past there are no human records of it. The monsters were sealed underground, and only emerged relatively recently. We're...trying to be better than our past.

...I see.

[Well, it's possible to fill in a few gaps there.]

In my universe, humans are the only sapient species on Earth. [besides whatever's happening with the whales in the whale movie] They did fight among themselves, but it is often more difficult for planets with multiple intelligent races to reach a global peace. It is good that you are trying to achieve that now.

[She nods as her tail taps lightly against the ground.] Just humans? That sounds quite lonely, in a way. Even before the monsters came back, we had Pokemon already living among us. [Her tail curls up slightly as she continues.] They also come in many shapes with various powers, though it's arguable how sapient they are. But by now it's commonplace to see them living and working alongside humans. I think that's part of why it was easier, this time.

Perhaps it was. They did have a great deal of fascination for alien races. But they have been spacefaring for a long time now.

[So, y'know. Doin' good now?]

What are Pokemon? [OH GOD HERE WE GO]
oceangirlfriend: (explanation time)

[personal profile] oceangirlfriend 2021-01-30 05:02 pm (UTC)(link)
[Well, she was prepared for the explanation at least.] They've...well, been around for as long as humans have been, from what we can tell. They tend to prefer battle and competition, and some of them seek out humans to train them and better their skills that way. Some of them also assist with various jobs that their abilities make easier. Their abilities aren't as freeform as monster magic, but they do have all sorts of powers based on their Types, and they're usually pretty sturdy. Right now, I'm serving as ambassador to a team of monsters who are trying out Pokemon training, and we're challenging the gym circuit in the region. It's a test of abilities, against some of the strongest trainers of the region. We were about to challenge the Elite Four, the final hurdle, as a matter of fact. [She pauses to take a bite.] Though that's probably been put on hold.

...I see.

[He does not. They have some kind of warrior culture, apparently, and have abilities depending on caste and/or sub-species, and that's what he's got.]

Are they similar to humans in appearance?
oceangirlfriend: (considerations)

[personal profile] oceangirlfriend 2021-01-31 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
Well...there are a few that are more humanoid in shape. But really they come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes. I've looked at some of the books here, and they're much more varied than the "animals" there.
